OT: Marshawn Lynch's mom wants Seahawks' offensive coordinator fired

Lets not get to crazy. No need to lump pornographers in with jouranalists. Pornographers make an honest attempt to provide a public service....unlike...well

What was Bobby Knight's famous line?? We all learn to write by the second grade. Most of us go on to other things......

Seattle and its fans are really embarrassing themselves with their 20/20 hindsight takes on play calls that they already know the outcome to
Yeah, it happens on this forum too. You can't 100% grade a play based on its results. You have to take into account the players needing to execute and the defense just making a great play. If you want to roast an OC, roast Norv for running AD only 10 times the other night. The hate McDaniels (and Brady too from the media, not really patsfans) got during the first quarter of the season was ridiculous. When the line doesn't block and only one reciever shows up to play, it doesn't matter if it's Bill Walsh or Mike Mularky calling the plays. It won't work.

God, ESPN is going to be all over this like ****ing hyenas. They're probably falling all over themselves right now in a frantic dash to start a TV controversy in Seattle over someone's mom.

Journalism is a super scummy profession. American culture would be 100 times improved if everyone collectively despised journalists, and journalists were too embarrassed to tell people what they do for a living at dinner parties.

Basically journalists should be seen on the same level as pornographers and drug dealers, and women should gasp in horror and disgust anytime anyone ever admits to being one.
You couldn't be more wrong. Journalists are the only thing that keeps the politicians and power elite in check. They do a critical job and when they don't we all suffer (ie the WMD Iraq war). The problem is that "journalism" is not what is being practiced in the sports medium.

Actually I think because of the internet, the news is so wide spread and diverse (which is good to a degree), It is hard to discern what is the truth and what is biased propaganda. Thus even the general news can be slanted to present one view over another, just like there are guys who spend their days writing fake stock tips or creating stories about certain companies designed to drive a stock up or down.

So while the "news" is more wide spread and easily available to us, it has become harder to determine what is real and what items have been inserted with an agenda. It is our individual responsibility as good citizens to make up our own minds, and do the work to determine what's real. But the sad fact is that most of us are just too lazy and don't take that responsibility seriously. Then we become part of the vast majority to heard the NFL narrative on "deflategate" and never bothered to question it before they made up their minds. The information that refutes their story is out there for anyone to see, but unfortunately it just take too much work to ferret it out.

I forget the famous person who made this critically important comment, but it wasn't me. To paraphrase: "On the day that Democaracy ends in the USA, it won't be because someone took it from us ; it will be because we gave it away."

And as I watch, for the first time in American history, instead of trying to expand the electorate. there are forces out there trying to shrink it; I can see a time within the next 100 years, that that statement comes true.

......And so ends the political content of this thread. Sorry about that.

As to the topic, I'm one of those (sorry Zolack) who STILL thinks Pete/Bevel made the right call.

Just look at the evidence:

1. Lynch was something like 2 out 5 on the GL that year

2. Given their offensive formation, the Pats had a 9 vs 7 advantage at the LOS in the GL they had.

3. Statistically, the chances of a fumble were about the same as a pick in that situation.

Now you might complain about the route they ran, or they should have run a roll out, or a play action pass. But the fact is that "a pass" was not the wrong call in the situation they had. What happened in the opener, is what likely would have happened in the Superbowl.

The fact that Butler was in position to break up that play was a good football read, but not "special". The fact that he was able to absorb the contact (remember there was a huge collision where he knocked Lockette flying, while he got knocked back into the endzone ) and still manage to secure the ball. Now THAT was what made the play "special."

You run that same play 100 times with everyone knowing what's coming and MAYBE there would be 2 picks, and most likely one. There would be lots of break ups, but VERY few picks. That's what made that play so remarkable, and why I hate all the attention going to the play call. It takes away the focus from what a truly great play Butler made.

Can I add #4? Had Lynch been stopped running on 2nd down, they have to burn a timeout and then they are forced to pass on third down or risk not getting a 4th down play (clock runs out if they run on 3rd down and don't score). Then the Pats know they are passing on third down which makes it easier to defend.

Prediction: Pete Carroll will be out of the NFL in 18 months.

He certainly can't control Lynch's mom but that team is going in the wrong direction.

If this were a stock, I would buy it. Remember that Pete Carroll is 64 years old.

Dumb of his mom to say this, but the media clowns who will beat this story to death are even dumber.

I disagree entirely. The vast majority of journalists are nothing more than propagandists, engaging constantly in 1984 `news-speak` designed to elicit emotional responses in people via buzzwords.

Political journalism is no different. I watched the first Republican debate this year and somehow Megyn Kelly was the star of the show, and the moderators were transparently trying to attack one candidate while propping up another.

The U.S. constitution defends Americans from tyranny. Journalists spend most of their time trying to usher it in (when not going after the Patriots).

Journalists are largely scum. I don't care what their covering.
