Re: WHat is up with players?

hes right to some extent..why is everyone (fans, media ) getting all into this and calling vick a criminal when the trials havent been set and nothing has been proven yet? I dont think Vick was right but no 1 knows for sure if hes innocent or not

Huh? What does Vick's presumed innocence have to do with Portis? Portis is saying, if you want to do dogfights, it's nobody's business but yours.

You agree with that?

Sorry, I seen the interview on NFL network. That was not the tone nor message he was sending. The message was "So what if he was fighting dogs, thats his business...."

his business and not yours(not ours)

it is illegal. That makes it my business cause as a fan I support his salary. As a resident of VA, I am concerned when someone breaks the law, and have a right to know. As a dog owner, I find dog fighting abhorrent. You are really missing the point here.

Portis basically said if he wants to fight dogs, then he should be able to, and have no consequences...

do you really support that?

Re: WHat is up with players?

here's a quote:

When told that dog fighting is a felony, Portis replied, "It can't be too bad of a crime."

I guess little crimes are allowed.

This e-mail to PFT sums it up well.

If we all thought like Clinton Portis there would be a lot of bad people running around free. Gee, Jeffrey Dahmer killed and ate all of his victims on his own property, so everyone should have just minded their own business.

Anyone who supports dog fighting or even tolerates it (which it seems Portis does) is a discpicable ass hole.

Re: What is up with players?

Good God, what the hell is wrong with people?

Say what you will about Shanahan, but Portis for Bailey was his best move ever.

Say what you will about PETA, (and my first line), but I'd pay $49.95 to see Vick, Portis, and the ilk in a "fight" against those same dogs. Bring only what you were born with.

Yes, what Portis said on the subject was absolutely pathetic. I already talked about this on ESPN, and let's just say I didn't have anything nice to say about Portis.

The more I read about this stuff, the happier I am being a Pats Fan, cannot imagine any of our players taking the stance that Portis did. These teams need some Belichickian Philosophy 101, "How to be humble and focused while keeping your mouth shut in the NFL". Either that or drink copious amounts of Patriots Koolaid.

Re: What is up with players?

I'm really hoping this dog-fighting case blows up into something big. It's frightening how many people have no idea dog fighting is looked upon so negatively. It's more frightening that, in order for them to be clueless about this perception, that is must be accepted where they come from.

When a player gets busted for drugs or hits their girlfriend/wife other players might think "who doesn't do it?" but they're not going to come out and say that it's his business and everyone should leave him alone. they know better. but when it comes to dog fighting it's a harmless hobby.

Hopefully the ASPCA has someone on the case to draw attention to this. I'm usually not a big fan of groups inserting themselves into causes but someone has got to stir things up and try to shape the perception of dog-fighting, especially in the wake of a public figure coming forward and saying that it's basically a victimless crime.

Too bad no one takes PETA seriously (and rightfully so). We know they can draw attention to themselves, but they used up any credibility they ever had a long time ago.

Re: What is up with players?

When you sign thugs, you get thuggish behavior. Cincy has built a team of players with first round talent that they got in later rounds because of behavioral and legal issues. They are reaping what they sowed.

Most of these "problem" players have been coddled since JHS and HS and all through college. They've put little more than token effort into their academics and were there because they could play football well and brought notoriety and money to their schools. They were also one career-ending injury away from little or no future. In fact, with all of the hangers-on surrounding them, they still might be.

Fortunately the good guys still outnumber the bad and BB & Co. do a good job of figuring out which ones are which.

Re: WHat is up with players?

When its both a local law and a federal law that are in violation, then it is the public's business.

Just like it is the public's business if you beat your wife. Or if you molest your kid. Or you run a meth lab out of your home. Or any number of other heinous crimes...

Re: Screw Clinton Portis and Chris Samuels (merged)

Sorry...my bust!

Can you believe the idiocy of this?!

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Washington Redskins players Clinton Portis and Chris Samuels defended Michael Vick on Monday by ridiculing the notion that dog fighting is considered a crime.

In an interview with WAVY-TV, Portis said that if the Atlanta Falcons quarterback is charged and convicted of being involved in a dog fighting operation, then authorities would be "putting him behind bars for no reason."

"I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not," Portis said. "But it's his property; it's his dogs. If that's what he wants to do, do it."

Portis said dog fighting is a "prevalent" part of life.

Re: Skins Portis, Samuels ridicule dog fighting as crime

Come one guys, we've all been to dog fights. Who hasn't?

Re: Screw Clinton Portis and Chris Samuels (merged)

Portis is an idiot. Regardless of how anyone views dog fighting,to come out and support the right to commit a felony because it occured on private property, not to mention blabbing it all in the midst of Goodell's Project Conduct-Clean-Up,is just downright dumb. He deserves to be muzzled-the Skins must be tickled pink over this one lol.
Apparently the feds are now involved: http://www.wvec.com/news/local/stories/wvec_local_052107_vick_dog_fight_meeting.8f33ea35.html

If I had a 100 million dollar contract I would help out family, maybe set them up in a home. Where there is smoke there is fire, still I see no proof to link Vick to dogfighting. I will wait and see on this one. Anyone ever been to a dog fight, they cant be all that bad if they are so popular.
