Name 5 teams who you would bet your house on that will make the playoffs and 5 teams you think won't have a chance.

My 5 guaranteed teams this year to make the playoffs in terms of strongest to lowest probability.....

NEW ENGLAND (of course)
Indiananpolis
San Diego
New Orleans
Cincinnati (yes,I put them here,I don't see another playoff miss with an offense that good)

My 5 guaranteed teams NOT to make the playoffs in terms of strongest to lowest probability.....

Oakland
Detroit
Atlanta
Green Bay
Buffalo

I noticed the majority of you have more AFC teams than NFC--sigh, but not surprising, AFC is the stronger division... Here's my list...

Dude? You think Denver has that much game? I know they have 2 rings but nobody gets to rest on their laurels. Let me make sure I understand this. You see the Broncos emerging as AFC west champs? If that's the case? Fair enough.

I know it seems SD went through turmoil during the offseason. On a certain level that's true. Understand that our current HC was our OC back in 2001 and actually installed the offense we're still running today. Understand that our current DC was a mentor to our previous DC, Wade Phillips. Understand that both Norv and Cottrell know our offense and defense backwards and forwards.

Please do understand that, regardless of our offseason turnover, continuity isn't gonna be an issue. Believe me. No, the only issue we're facing is what our personnel learned from last year, if they did learn, and what we're facing this season.

See ya in September.

Certainly Will
1.) New England Patriots
2.) Chicago Bears
3.) Indianapolis Colts
those are my only locks

Certainly WILL NOT
1.) Oakland Raiders
2.) Cleveland Browns
3.) Houston Texans
4.) Detroit Lions
5.) Buffalo Bills

too much parity in the NFC to produce any locks

Teams that I would back to make the playoffs, serious injuries to starting QBs notwithstanding:
New England
Indianapolis
Chicago (the serious injuries thing doesn't apply in their case; it could be a blessing)
New Orleans
San Diego

Teams I think won't do it:
Oakland
Washington
Tampa
Cleveland

I feel pretty confident with the first list but not the second. As others have said, there's quite a bit of parity out there and wildcard spots aren't inconceivable for any team. Bear in mind how good Oakland's D was last year, for example.

Just out of curiosity, why so much hate on Houston? They have a new quarterback (Matt Schaub), a new runningback (Ahman Green), an improving defensive line (Mario Williams and Amobi Okoye), one of the best young linebackers in the league (DeMeco Ryans).

Yes, I know they don't have much of an offensive line. But stranger things have happened. Think New Orleans last year.

In:

Patriots
Bolts
Bears
Saints
Broncos

Out:

Texans
Bills
Dolphins
Lions
Skins

Surprises: Up or Down)

Colts Down AFC South is catching up
Cowboys Down TO works his magic; Daune's leaving; Romo crackup
Ravens Down Offense gets even worse
Raiders Up Defense there; a modicum of O helps to reach mediocrity
Bucs Up D is there; O rebounds from QB injuries

In:
Patriots
Colts
Saints

Out:
Oakland
Washington
Miami
Lions
Texans (The AFC South with the Colts, Jaguars, and Titans is an extremely tough division.)

Now, I know that the Chargers fan is going to go into some long spiel about his team, but with Denver and the Chiefs, that is an extremely tough division. And Oakland's defense is pretty tough.

I wanted to put the Packers in there, but with that Division of mediocrity, who knows what could happen...

I couldn't bring myself to put the Bengals IN because o fthe number of players on their team getting arrested.

This league has so much parity that its hard to even guess at this point in time who will be in and who won't be.

5 that will:

New England
Indianapolis
New Orleans
Baltimore
Chicago

5 that won't:

Miami
Oakland
Washington
Detroit
Houston

5 Either Way:

San Diego
NY Jets
Denver
Carolina
Jacksonville
