Groy was an UDFA for the Bears last year. He started the last three games.

There is no cost at all if the pick is conditional.

There could be a conditional pick that is not pegged to his draft class - it's not a restricted free agent offer sheet. Could be "a fourth rounder if he makes the opening day roster" for example.

The Pats listed Wells at 215 pounds on the official roster. That pretty much disqualifies him as an LB and in my mind put him head to head against Wilson and Ebner for an ST roster spot. Looks like those two guys won for now, and the big question now is whether they both make the roster or only one does.

IDK about the bears but it is a good move for the Patriots.

We trade a back end roster guy who wasn't likely to make it or do anything for us for a back end roster guy who looks fairly likely to make it and maybe see some snaps. Good little trade.
