How would we feel if Brady accepts reduced penalty?

I'd be shocked if Brady accepted any punishment. But then, I didn't expect Kraft to fold like an accordion either, but he did.

That makes no sense. Brady can't accept and sue. The only way he accepts is by not suing.
This isn't something where the sides need to agree to a result.
Goodell gives it out, Brady doesn't get to agree or not, he gets to continue on to court if he doesn't like it.

I disagree....unless there is a negotiation, Brady can't accept or reject the appeal. It is what it is.

A lawsuit is what it is, and Brady would be suing to overturn the final ruling.

i would feel extremly angry and disapointed. i want him to take it all the way even if that ruins the upcoming season. i want blood. nfl goodell and colts blood. i want them exsposed for the frauds hypocrits and in the colts case the pathetic franchise that they are. i want espn to choke on there words when they report tom brady suspension reduced to no games.

For the first time it feels to me like Brady might accept a reduced suspension. Not sure why.

So I’m trying to think how I’d feel about that. This has been my emotional reaction during each phase of this fiasco:

--News breaks after the championship game, flood of articles about how the Pats “have done it again.” For some reason, I remember Jackie MacMullan’s. Even Reiss chimes in somewhat negatively, for him. Feel very depressed that the fun is being sucked out of what should be a great time.

--First Belichick & Brady press conferences don’t help.

--Belichick’s Mona Lisa Vito conference. Feeling better. This is BS!

--Kraft stands up for team. This is really BS! Enough fighting back that I fully am back into enjoying Super Bowl. If anything, adds to it—FU and all.

--Long waiting period for report. Feels less important than before. Thinking that if Reiss’ prediction of a small fine is correct it will tick me off. Want exoneration on this nonsense, and the NFL’s ridiculous handling of it.

--Report released. What?? Feels like Bizarro world…the predictable piling on begins….

--…followed by insane over the top punishment. Black mood. Murderous.

--Wells report context website goes up…this time, the team is fighting back. Still furious, but in a better, us-against-the-world-and-the-world-better-watch-out way.

--Kraft surrenders. Deadening. What’s the point of any of this if even the owner of the team won’t fight?

--Since then, through Brady testifying…more media outlets joining the growing chorus that the Wells report is horribly flawed…the AEI report…and simply time passing…feeling better. Waiting mode, fully expecting no change from the NFL, and Brady taking fight to next level.

--And now, like I said, maybe it’s the reduction of Hardy’s penalty, but a feeling for the first time that Brady might be so sick of the BS that if it’s reduced to 2 he’ll take it so he can move on. Hope I’m wrong. I guess I’m just wondering how the board will feel if he does accept it? As bad as when Kraft caved? Worse? Or are we not even entertaining the possibility that he’ll accept a penalty?

You forgot to mention in the timeline the part about Goodell imposing a de minimus fine against the Jets for one of the most egregious cases of tampering in league history.


I feel this goes beyond Brady's legacy and reputation. To me, the entire league is corrupted and Goodell
and the NYJ get-along gang in the NFL office need to be exposed and dealt with once and for all. This can only happen in court (and I assume this will be heard in some federal court in Massachusetts, not NY).

Although football is "just a game" it is also something we watch after working a long blue color work week. It is something our US military brothers read in the Stars n Stripes when they get the chance. It is something to distract us from the daily grind. Wouldn't it be nice to read somewhere in a newspaper anywhere on the planet that Tom Brady, the ultimate underdog, made the all powerful Goodell and his stupid cronies kiss his ass? It would be something I would never forget. BUT you have to believe that the science in the Wells report is screwed up and you would have to believe that Brady truly believes he is innocent. I do. And I understand your point of view as well. I just think its a waste of time really UNLESS he is doing it in order to be on the field and miss no or fewer games. If he is doing it to earn validation from his haters then yes, I think its a gigantic waste of time. I felt like alot of you do now when this first happened but overtime i just got over it. At this point I just wanna watch my favorite team and qb play and watch them try to win another sb. Constantly arguing with morons and haters gets old after awhile. At least for me..

Brady's attorneys are the key players here, whether to advise Tom to pursue complete exoneration or if they tell him it would be futile.

The problem with this whole case is a bogus NFLPA "contract" that acquiesced many traditional freedoms that are associated with unions, due process etc. for other contract demands.. the NFLPA allowed this system of justice to exist.

The stuff about Mort and all the science are extraneous and not that relevant to the major issue of failing to "cooperate"... the NFL has already won this case in the court of public opinion.

Yep, good point. In general, I'm not sure how worked up I get about the idea of "tampering," but that was literally a textbook example. When the "punishment" came out, it seemed like maybe that would be good for the Pats--lame/no penalty for something that hurt the Pats, so the Pats wouldn't be unjustly hammered, then. Seems silly to consider now.

That is what I said. The ruling is the ruling. There is no mechanism for Brady to accept or reject it, he is given the penalty. He can then take it to court if he wishes.

Early on I posted a conspiracy theory that Kraft needed a pretext to move Brady before he declines like Manning did. Brady is already showing disturbing signs of uncharacteristic Favre like interception throws.
Remember Kraft and Bellichick are cold calculating businessmen as part of their winning strategy.How to let Brady go early without the outrage from fans?
I could easily see Goodell returning favors to Kraft by cooking up a scandal out of thin air that gives cover to the Brady removal scheme. Remember Bellichick was hated in Cleveland for benching an extremely popular QB and he didn't hesitate to replace Bledsoe at the first opportunity. I thought the loss of draft picks negated that theory but if we trade Brady we can get those picks back for him. If this theory is true it remains to be seen how this will play out and they must really like Garoppolo. Notably the Wells report stayed away from Bellichick.
Brady may ask to be traded if he realizes they stuck a knife in his back.

The only ones who can assess what makes sense for Tom Brady are Tom Brady, his small inner circle of family and friends, Don Yee, and, to a lesser degree, Jeffrey Kessler (I say "to a lesser degree" in the case of Kessler because he will also have the agenda of the NFLPA among his considerations and, as a Lawyer, will see the $$$ associated with a protracted litigation, but his opinion will be valuable nonetheless).

Assuming that Goodell will not exonerate him and will only reduce his suspension to one or two games, those will be the people who can assess the trade-offs between taking the suspension or going to court. They are the only ones who will have all the facts and who will also have the knowledge and expertise to make that assessment.

Finally, only Tom Brady himself will know what "feels right" to him when all the facts and risks are on the table. I will respect whatever he decides.
