Does this mean Tampa "won" the Mankins trade?

I would say no.

wow. this is a move i did NOT expect.

Not shocking. The guy couldn't get on the field in the postseason. He also couldn't be trusted to block and the team suddenly has an influx of talent at the TE position instead of just Wright and Gronk.

I think this shows that Jake Bequette is the next great tight end for the NEP, or that he isn't giving up those photos of Belichick for at least another year. And I'm disappointed it took this many posts for someone to make a joke about him here.

Wright has great hands but cannot Block a fly! He did even look like a TE too light in the pants.
Not worth even a seventh rounder? Something does not smell right (wright?).

So then why trade for him in the first place? It's not like Wright's inability to block comes as a surprise to anyone.

With Dobson not healthy, Belichick probably thought he was a decent, big target for Brady. We've upgraded that type of target with Chandler.

Things have vastly changed since the trade. Gronk put in a full healthy season, we had Wright for a whole season learned his limitations and had phased him out down the stretch and in the playoffs, and in the off-season we have aquired several other options one in specific Chandler is way way ahead of him.

He was a good player, his numbers were good and he gave solid contribution in a few games including the turning point of the season against Cincinnati. But, as others have said, he became a victim of a numbers game, we have better players at TE right now.

This also can be viewed as a good sign regarding Dobson/Gibson, WR overall, because apparently they didn't even try him at WR like Tampa did.

BB definitely won this trade.

Again, it was a rhetorical question, as I don't buy the poster's assertion that BB demands his TEs block well.

Gronk is already the greatest tight end ever, so this comparison is hardly apt.
The point is prognostications about positional dominance are ridiculous in June - anyone remember the "Big Nickel" and how it was going to be impossible to move the ball on the Pats secondary? that didn't work out so well....

Good thing we traded Mankins, we got the player we needed to replace Hernandez, and the cap space to resign Revis.

I hope Trey Flowers is good otherwise we gave up one of the better (older I know) LGs in the NFL for nothing.

He's a JAG TE who can't block. TB was rumored to be ready to cut him when the Pats acquired him last year.

I think you are over-valuing him.

I don't pretend to get this.
He didn't do that much, although he didn't get a full off season here. But it's not all that surprising if he hasn't improved much.
