I'm being a bit negative, but I'll say it anyways....

I've made it up to the game vs. Eagles and I can't help but recall the whole Spygate controversy about Eagles players being "astonished" in regards to how the Pats just "knew" when the blitz was coming, and always capitalized, and killed them with the screen, etc. Well, I've made two observations:

1) The Patriots really didn't capitalize much at all vs the Eagles blitzes. The most strategic playcalls the Pats had vs the blitz were back-to-back in the 2nd Quarter (starting at 18:15 in the video) where Weiss called for a screen to Dillon against the blitz and got a 1st down two times in a row. That's it. On the flip side? Brady fumbled a play action fake vs the blitz and almost threw a near INT, because a free-rush blitzer swatted one of his passes up for grabs. In the 4th Q, again, Brady gets a ball swatted due to a free rushing blitzer. Then, on the very next play, at 23:40, against the Eagles blitz, Brady almost gets sacked, and throws the ball away, due to the blitz. Brady had some good audibles where he picked up the blitz (the best in the opening drive in the 2nd half -- and oh man, the Eagles really didn't hide their blitzes either), but audibles wouldn't be necessary if the initial play call was actually good; so that's a moot point in regards to spygate.

2) Far and away the most incriminating indication that signals may have been known comes at 22:56 where the Pats offense sends Faulk in motion and you can audibly hear the Eagles yell out "Screen! Watch the Screen!" Even Joe Buck, commented on how the Eagles were calling it. Sure enough, The Pats run a screen (vs. no blitz, mind you) and still pick up a 1st down, just short of the endzone. So, yeah, the Eagles knew how to predict a certain playcall....and still sucked at trying to stop it.

I was timing the Giants pass rush in SB 42, I could hardly count to 2 seconds after the snap. It didn't see to let up much until the very end.

Kaczur and Mankins got beat.

In addition to that though, a good chunk of the rush is because the Giant's fake blitz/delay blitz packages. They would basically occupy a guard (or center) with a fake blitz, and drop back that blitzer only to leave that Guard blocking no one. The Giants would then use that opportunity to delay-blitz on the outside (thus an overload due to the Guard not engaging in a block), or even use that same fake-blitzing inside linebacker to actually blitz that Guard (who's now looking around elsewhere). Sometimes they'd just send the LB to fake blitz -- paired up with a LB or a DB on a delay to hit that very same gap. The Guards were being manipulated left and right. It was a mess. You'd see guys with their heads on a swivel trying to look around, only to get beat one way or another. I can't help but think that's a big reason why the line, especially Mankins, sucked...even when there was no blitz.

Look at 25:47, 26:03, 28:02, 29:01. Those were just the ugly ones, too. Untouched blitzers. Ugh.

Oh, you want to know why the Giants could blitz? Cause McDaniels really didn't spread it out in regards to their formations. If they went 4 or 5 wide more often - like they did in the reg season - you wouldn't give the D an opportunity to keep 7 in the box on a consistent basis; and give them the opportunity to blitz, delay, or fake. You'd spread them out and Brady could really get the ball out quicker.

That's another issue too. Brady. There were times where he'd look deep when he really should have just checked down.

Really a bad game on all levels for that O; it's hard to argue that they deserved to win that game.

The thing that catches my eye here is how much Brady has improved his mechanics.

My eye don't lie.

Brady has been better than ever before post 2010. And he still looks really really good.

I to this day have not watched any of the 2 losses to the Giants and I don't think I ever will. Winning another one last year I thought would ease it but nothing will ever help with '07.

Unbelievable painful--probably just how the Seahawks felt after this last SB.

Given how what goes around comes around, I believe RG has a very painful embarrassing comeuppence coming at him.

The guy makes $40m+ a year.

Any extra time in that position means more gravy for him. He will never ever feel any pain at all. Not unless he somehow ends in prison. If he is fired tomorrow, he still goes away laughing at the folly of it all.

Hochstein was trash in that game too. What was most apparent to me in that game, looking back, is how much the ankle injury affected Brady. Even when he had time, he was missing throws that he was typically lasering in that year.
