Too Bad Brady Can't Throw the Bomb

In his first few NFL years, Brady couldn't throw deep well at all. He's improved in recent years, up to average among NFL starters, I'd say. If he were great at throwing bombs, our new WRs would be even more valuable. I don't think DBs are going to say "It's only Brady throwing, so I won't cover Moss deep" or anything, but this has always been Brady's biggest weakness, in my opinion.
Or.........

Could it simply be that Brady never had prime receivers who could go out and chase down those bombs?

Brady throwing bombs is not an issue. Your football knowledge leaves a lot to be desired, though.

Brady looks bad on his long throws. You can tell me I am wrong, but I have watched every pass the man has made in the NFL. 2007 should be interesting.

I suggest that you watch more carefully in the future

The thing that negativos like Dan Shaughnessy don't understand is that Tom Brady, with just one more Super Bowl victory, is about to stamp his name as the greatest player in Boston sports history, the best in any sport. He's that close, and that's why they can't stand the Patriots. If Brady has a great year this year and wins the Super Bowl, he moves ahead of the line, ahead of Cy Young, ahead of Babe Ruth the pitcher, ahead of Ted Williams, ahead of Bobby Orr, ahead of Bill Russell, ahead of Larry Bird.

I think longtime Boston sportswriters can't stand the idea.

Put it this way, Barry Bonds may break the HR record but he'll never be as big as Joe Montana in San Francisco, and the reason why has nothing to do with steroids, nor race, etc. It has everything to do with Montana playing the most difficult position in sports, playing in the NFL, the most popular league in sports. Sure, a player may eventually come along and blow Brady out of the water. That player will have to be a Red Sox player, and he'll have to win multiple World Series, something that eluded Ted Williams.

This tired myth again?

Tom Brady has the exact same number of 40+ yard passes as Peyton Manning in the last 4 years - 35 each.

This is why I'm predicting this year we're going to see a lot of Cassel. :rocker:

completions or passes? Hell, TB had a nice 25 yard gain on fourth and six, but the ball went 8 yards! Not sure what everyones beef is. Some think that Brady has trouble with accuracy on deeper throws. I have seen him throw some great long passes, but I can see where folks would say he has struggled. Just opinions people.

This is as far off base as I have ever read. TB is a very good QB, but he cannot hold a candle to the legendary names you mention. TB is great when he needs 3 points or less, 4 or more? Not so much.

Completions.

Because the Pats ran an offense that included no deep passes 6 seasons ago and the Boo Hoo We Love Drew Boston Media said Brady can't throw deep like their hero Drew, the myth still exists. The truth of it is that every QB completes a low percentage of deep passes. Brady is no better and no worse than a lot of QBs who many think are good deep throwers.

-We did go deep numerous times with Branch.

-Givens, Caldwell, Gaffney are possesion WRs

-We never had a Moss or Stallworth..a legit deep threat starter

-Brady's weakness isnt deep ball..go watch highlights of Steelers-Patriots to name 1 game

-Brady had plenty arm..he said he can probably throw like 70 yards
“The farthest you probably ever throw in a game is 50 to 55 yards,” says Brady. "I mean, I could throw it probably 70, if I really get into one."

-We misconnected on a few deep balls..more on communication or how well Tom knows a player. When we barely did deep plays with Caldwell and them..how would Brady know when Reche would get there? You need to know your WR and put it where u know he can get it.

I can do that. And I will.

I suspect Moss and Stallworth are able to make adjustments to "come back" to Brady's passes. This makes them the perfect compliment.

I would ask that you watch Moss and Stallworth as they stop on their routes to catch an under thrown pass.

now your jsut being crazy. Brady has good arm strength..his long accuracy is spotty sometimes but his arm strenght is not.

I could never critique Brady as I could never critique Tiger Woods. Saying I see a problem is not the same as telling you I know why the problem exists.

I see short passes in his game. It could be for any number of reasons, maybe his coach knows what the reasons are. I don't.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Right now Brady is right on par with players like Russel, Orr, Bird, Williams in terms of Boston sports legends. Saying he doesn't hold a candle shows that you clearly don't live in Boston.

short passes especially this year because look who we had..Caldwell..Gaffney..Brown..they struggled to get open especially early

If coaches didnt feel Brady can do deep..why give him 2 of the best deep threats?

beauty to Bethel who dove for it..very nice ball and against Steelers.

Lets say Brady can't throw the long ball accurately. Why worry? He reminds me a little of Gannon. Throw the ball enough to keep the chains moving until he gets to the red zone. Once in the red zone, almost an automatic score whether a FG or TD.

No worries. Brady is smarter than any QB in the game.

Perhaps, but it's also true that Moss is perhaps the best WR EVER when it comes to adjusting to poorly thrown deep balls. Just look at his highlight reels. He's seen a ton of poorly thrown deep balls come his way, and his most spectacular catches, bobbles, and TD's come off them.
QUOTE]

Sometime an underthown deep ball is actually more advantageous to the wideout. He is looking back while the DB has his back to the ball. The widout can stop and make that adjustment that you speak of. And if he can't catch it, there is a great chance of defensive pass interference.
