Middle ground on Moss

Lost in the "he's an all star who just ran a 4.3/40 and he gives Brady a dangerous deep threat and now the patriots WRs are the best in the league" vs. "he's a cancer who will poison/ruin the entire team" is the middle ground, that, in my opinion is the most likely scenario:

His production has certainly declined in recent years and he's playing for a team that spreads the ball around (no randy ratio here for sure).

I don't think he'll really get all that many touches and I don't think he'll be a huge factor, especially if one of the other new WRs establishes a connection with Brady.

That sounds good.

I doubt he is going to come here and shred the NFL like he did in Minnesota but I do expect much improvement from what we saw in Oakland.

He does sound very excited to be here just like Dillon did and he went on to have the best season of his career. Not that Moss will do the same obviously but I would be more shocked by him not improving at all than him putting up Minnesota-type numbers.

don't know why production declined. just saying it may not be something that just "clicks back on" once he's here, especially since he shouldn't be the focal point of the offense like he was back when he put up the insane stats.

65 catches/1000 yards seems a little high to me, though not unreasonable

Is his desire to be part of a team sincere? If so, there aren't other problems.

I disagree. If he's out there, the opposition needs to respect that and if they double team him, that leaves someone else open. That's a big factor in my opinion.

He'll be a huge factor because he will demand double coverage and stretch the D. He will make it easier for all the other receivers and for Brady, also since teams won't be able to put 8-9 in the box it will open up the running game.

The number of catch's won't tell the story of his impact on the team.

The two probably go hand in hand. If his desire is TRUELY just to win, then he has to realize that even just decoying and sprinting downfield every few play will ALWAYS mean that 2 guys get pulled well away from the play. That'll clear out so much room for the other guys to move. He'll obviously get his touches too.

Bottom line, if winning is his primary motivation {and it seems to be}.... weather he gets 70/1200 or 40/600 his service will be invaluable to this offense. He has to know that after nine years in.

I understand all the optimism regarding Moss; just don't think it's realistic.

But here's the question.

Why?

The year before the Patriots got him, Corey Dillon had aroun 500 to 600 yds. rushin for Cincy. Was he on the decline? Was he not impactful anynore?

Hate to disagree so strongly with a new member but.... Moss gives us an additional flexibility that we didn't have before. Giving BB and Brady more options is a huge advantage, especially as the season ages. I'll bet that's going to give many DC's and HC's a few sleepless nights!

I couldn't agree with this post any less. If Moss is declining than why does he have 16td's? The last time I checked 16 is a lot. Matter of fact I think the last time a WR caught more was by Randy Moss himself with 17. Terrel Owens caught 85 balls last season and 13 TD's. Is he on the decline because he didn't catch a 100?

Who knows what Randy's #s will look like by the end of the season? But I'll tell you this. A declining Randy Moss is worth his weight in gold compared to any Wr we have had on this roster in 25 years as long as he maintains a good attitude. My opinion is all.
