I think he is pretty much "the player he was" and has plenty of gas in the tank for a couple more seasons. I think this is just a classic case of BB cutting a guy "a year too soon rather than a year too late."

That's pretty much it. Like Revis, there are financial boundaries that this team will absolutely not cross. Paying $9m for a 34 yr old DT w/$5m guaranteed is one of them. Doesn't mean VW can't still play, it means that he won't be doing it here. This situation is very similar to Willie Macs in 05.
Ugh, some people's reaction to this on facebook are ridiculous. People slamming Vince for not staying with the Pats because he was "scheduled to make as much here as in Houston." And surely we would have matched his offer, is another gem.
I just get the feeling some people just woke up and decided, "Hey, I'll be a Patriots fan today!" from the way they talk. No clue. None.
I love the big guy and appreciate everything he's meant to us.
To Vince, I wish you the best of luck and continued health, even if it comes against the Patriots (which is the biggest compliment I can give you as a die hard Patriot fan).
Best of luck to Big Vince, one of my favorite Patriots of this era. I look forward to the day that he get's his Red Jacket and has a tribute day at Patriots Place. Hope that I can make it down for that.
I'm guessing our offer must have been close ... + or - ...
After thinking about it ... I'm thinking this was more of an issue of playing time expected or discussed than it was about money. Not that there's anything wrong with any of it ... I feel like Wilfork is too proud of a man and player to have accepted a lesser role here ... easier to do that in another uniform and/or know you'll play more elsewhere. In any case ... great ride for us and Vince. I think this is more a playing time issue than a $$$ issue for Vince and family.
