Jets Suck -- 2015 Edition (Official): Countdown to Oblivion

* Jets tamper with Pats coach Bill Parcells during Patriots Super Bowl run.
As much as that sucked, it's clear that we more than made up for it when BB resigned as HC of the NYJ and came to New England.

If edits are allowed, you should add the bogus contract that the Jets signed Curtis Martin to.

What was the gist of that? I don't remember. Some kind of poison pill deal I recall vaguely.

The contract became fully guaranteed if Martin played a certain number of games in Foxboro in any year. I don't remember how many, but it was obviously more than two, since it would be impossible for Martin to play more than two games in Foxboro as a Rat, but exceed it if the Pats matched.

Indeed. Wiki can explain it better than I can:
After the 1997 season, Martin became a restricted free agent. On the first day of the free agency period Martin's agent, Eugene Parker, contacted the New York Jets to gauge their interest in potentially signing the running back.[13] Negotiations ensued between Parker and Jets head coach and general manager Bill Parcells and an offer sheet was formulated.[13] Though Martin had reservations about playing in New York and particularly for a division rival, the presence of his former coach Parcells influenced his decision to ultimately join the Jets.[14] On March 20, 1998, Martin signed a six-year $36 million poison pill contract.[15][16] The "poison pill" was a clause in the contract that stated Martin would become an unrestricted free agent after one-year if the Patriots matched the offer and it would have forced New England to pay a $3.3 million roster bonus that would have compromised their salary cap.[16] Under these conditions, the Patriots did not match the offer however they received the Jets' first and third round selections in the 1998 NFL Draft as compensation after filing a complaint with the NFL management council claiming the offer sheet violated the terms of the league's collective bargaining agreement at the time.

To me, this was a big accelerator in the Parcells era border war. Parcells was trying to 'f' with us. He paid a price for it, but he did get some strong years out of Martin in return, which of course pissed me off to no end.

Well, they all said Revis would bring a ring to the Jets. Too bad it will be a Patriots championship ring.

He's surely not going to get a ring with Gee No or Fitzy running the Jests offense. As mentioned in another thread, last night I saw an interview with Revis right after the SB and he said the defense knew that all they had to do was get the ball back to Brady and they'd be OK. Can you imagine him saying the same thing about Gee No or Fitzy? It makes you realize what a mercenary Revis is. Now he says he's happy to be "home", back in the green slime filled swamps of New Jersey. So long Darelle, we hardly knew ya!

The stuff of nightmares ...

Without Wrex, this thread somehow seems less appropriate. With him, they were trash talking assholes. Perhaps with the new coach they will be more professional? So far he has been much better than Wrex at focusing on football. benefit of doubt to him...

Raymond Babbitt can focus better than Wrex.

The Pats won 3 Lombardi's over the next six seasons.

I never missed Parcells or Martin.

I want the Green Beans in Foxboro for our Thursday night home opener. Putting a beatdown on them would be sweet as can be.
Which is exactly why the Jets back office (aka NFL Headquarters) won't allow it to happen. The league hypes the season opener starting sometime in June. They would never permit their main sponsor to be set up for that kind of humiliation.

Meh, I'm not convinced.

Me neither. Gee-No flat-out sucks, Fitzgerald is journeyman defined, they still need linebackers, a running back and OL help, and Marshall will be the requisite WR malcontent. SOJ for another year.

The bird's great. He doesn't think anyone in the draft can help New Jersey reach the playoffs either -- especially after they're forced to switch No. 1 picks with New England for tampering.
