I still want Vince a Wilfork back but if we can't.... Read on!
Red Bryant was released by the Jaguars and is a perfect fit in NE. 30 years old , 6'4" 325+ pound run stuffer. Cheaper than knighton but still very effective. In 4 years has missed ONE game. His level of play has been consistent and was released after the Odrick signing. I liked this guy in Seattle and I think he would be a gem here.

It just depends on which way they want to go. They could pay big bucks for Knighton to get the complete package, or they could (theoretically) get a value signing from Bryant who may not be the best pass rusher, but is a beast run stuffer.

IMO the perfect situation would be to sign Bryant for a one or two year deal and low cap hit. Pair him with Easley next to him at DT. Put Jones next to Bryant and Sheard next to Easley. That defensive line would be hard to run on and could be disruptive too... Having Bryant and Sheard book ending Easley would mitigate his potential weakness defending the run.

Plus since Bryant was cut he doesn't count in the compensatory pick formula.

Wasn't the issue with Red Bryant that he can ONLY play (I believe) RDE and every other position he was tried at he failed miserably, along with his only skillset being a run stuffer, he lacks value.

I could be remember someone else, but I do think I remember this scenario being about Bryant when we targeted him last season (or 2013, I forget).

Would rather have Knighton.

Just get Knighton and remove all doubt. That other DT spot is too important not to get right.

I'm not sure Bryant has much left in the tank, but I'm sure the team will kick the tires on him.

Nick Fairley's not a run stuff DT, but he has the most upside of any of those guys, and offers the most disruptive potential.

For a run-stuffer, I'd like to see the Pats go after Kenrick Ellis. Low cost, younger than Bryant or Starks, and a very good run stuffer.

Fairley (on a "prove it" deal) + Ellis would be a nice combination, which shouldn't break the bank.

I can't comment on the RDE issue you brought up (I don't know) but saying he isn't valuable because he is ONLY a run stuffer is flat out wrong. By your definition Vince would lack value. Vince is not an inside rusher. He is a run stuffer and space occupier.

Vince lined up at either interior spot in our 4 man line as well as at NT, LDE, and RDE in a 3 man front. Red Bryant, I believe, does not do that, that is where my value comment was aimed at.

A one position run stuffer only lacks value. A 5 position border-line hall of famer run stuffing talent has great value, or had, Wilfork isn't as good as he once was but still offers more versatility. I'd prefer Knighton over everyone on the market, obviously, but Wilfork >>>> Bryant/Branch.

Thanks for the explaination, I think all of us would love VW back.

I would love vince back. He is a great asset to the locker room but he wouldnt solve our run defense. If we bring vince back and dont add a dt through free agency, then draft a dt.

As I explained in another thread: I live in Jacksonville Beach. I watch a good amount of Jaguars football. This is not the Red Bryant of 2012. Hell, he isn't even the Red Bryant of 2013 anymore. DT FA priorities should be as follows...

1. Knighton
2. Wilfork
3. Starks
4. Fairley

Knighton is the cream of the crop, Wilfork because he's Big Vince, Starks because he's solid against the pass (though he does have his issues stopping the run), Fairley in 4th because his motor is an issue and he's a fat ****.

Have said before and will say again. With Revis gone the other starting DT beside Easley better be able to get after the QB. Bryant doesn't do that so that is not where I invest my money IMO.

Knighton's always been out of shape, no? Well, in terms of weight management anyhow.

Knighton is a space eater. Have you seen the guy? Lol. He is a nose tackle. Isnt he like around 330? Pot roast!

Vince wont solve our run defense. They better fix that with the secondary they will put out there.
