Does this game make up for the heartbreaking losses?

Does for me, just as winning the first Super Bowl made up for the 1976 Ben Dreith robbery, the Super Bowl XX Bears embarrassment, and the Desmond Howard kickoff return.

It helps a little, but 06 half the team had the flu. Irsay pumped up the heat when the Pats were on defense and piped in crowd noice when Pats had the ball. Talk about irony in the midst of footballs being a few ticks under pressure. The 07 team thought all they had to do was show up and they'd win.

What do you mean by stole one? The Patriots scored 14 points in crunch time against a good D and then put up a goal line stand. I'd say they earned every bit of last nights championship.

Seattle was lucky to be in it at the end with that catch. No guarantee lynch gets into the end zone. Pats won because they were better. Seattle was lucky they got to the 1.

A little. I think only a 19-0 finish can make up for the failed 2007 attempt, since that was a chance for a truly unique title win. Helmet Catch is always going to sting in that regard.

But for the rest of the past 10 years, to me, the XLIX win totally makes up for all that. The painful defeats, and even the fluky fashion in which some of them occurred, made Malcolm Butler's moment where he changed the script all that much more special. It was being met with deja vu after Kearse's ridiculous catch, and facing another long offseason of what-if's and ridicule by all the haters and then being rescued from that in an instant.

It's the most satisfying Patriots victory of my life, surpassing even the first SB title, and I'm still debating with myself where I rank this against the Red Sox ending the curse in 2004. At the very least, this Pats win is 1B to that 1A.

This makes up for all other loses to me except 2007. Nothing will EVER make up for that game. I will be forever scarred by that tyree catch. It is what it is.

Fwiw, the pats didn't get lucky. Seattle caught a ton of breaks and had the ball bounce their way a ton of times.

First drive, that's roughing the kicker, 15 yards and we probably put points on the board..bad ref call. Speaking of bad ref..in the middle of end zone, gets in Revis' way on a crucial td which almost buried the pats. Throw in a crazy drive before halftime to tie it up..and the ridiculous catch at the end of the game...Our win was hardly fluky.

Anyone else feel like football gods were fing with us, making us relive our nightmares with brady scoring for the lead...tyree catch 2.0...down to tgr 1/2 yard line before finally giving us that crazy pick? Lol

I think yes. You can't win 'em all (or even get to the big game most of the time). The Pats have gotten there a remarkable 6 times since 2001. The demons of 2007 were vanquished with this redemption in the same stadium (although I, like everyone else, thought we were going to lose our 3rd Super Bowl in a row on a fluke pass play at the end of the game!)

I woke up this morning with a general feeling of wholesome well-being and peace. I think it has exorcised all my 2006/2007/2011 demons, and I will just smile contentedly if someone tries to wind me up about them. Why wouldn't we? After yet another transparent BS attempt to pull the franchise down just before the big game and the Tyree on steroids catch, to pull out the victory was an incredible accomplishment. To have the sustained success, and with more potentially on the horizon, I'm just walking around smiling like the village idiot today. This was about legacy, and it is now carved in stone. So content.

The '06 loss to the Colts, the Tyree game, the 2nd Giants game.. to me, this makes up for it all and I no longer feel like we've "left any on the table" because we just ****ing STOLE one.

Down 14 to Baltimore twice. TWICE.

Tied for the biggest comeback in SB history. Seattle had the ball at the 1. 99/100 times Seattle probably wins in that situation.

But I'm not over 2001, either.

Nor am I over 2003...or 2004.

My God, was 2004 a great Year.

I don't believe that I'll ever get over 2007...or 2001 or 2003 or 2004...And I know I'll never get over 2014.

I embrace Sorrow and Rage, just as I embrace Joy.

Nothing will make up for the heartbreak of XXXI in my mind until the Pats meet the Pack again in the SB (and they almost did for a 3rd time, coming up short once again!)

I've long since gotten over XLII, especially since they got their chance at a rematch 4 years later. Its just the fact that they blew that chance that still gets me to this day. I don't know if XLVI will heal for me either.

This win was special, that's for sure. But those other 2 losses, XXXI & XLVI, in my mind are big stains on Patriots history. But who knows, in time this win may ease the sting of XLVI...

I would have been over the 2007 season loss if we had won the next matchup versus the Giants. Losing for a second time to them really hurt. One play in each game made the difference. It really goes to show how tough it is to win it all. What the Pats have done is pretty awesome. We're primed to do it again next year. This win erased a lot of demons. I think we'll be better for it.
