He's obviously taking a lot of crap for it from some very sour Pats fans on his twitter page.

Obviously, he and BB didn't get along, but no one seems to leave NE with a bad feeling towards Bob Kraft. Seems the few people who hate him work on Morrissey Boulevard.

People don't understand how truly lucky we all are that this guy saved the team from Budweiser in 1994.

Wish we still had Spikes. I know he clashed with BB a lot but he was a run-stopping BEAST... I don't know if he would've really necessarily fit in right now, but he's a nice tool to have in the shed.

Personally I feel a lot of teams neutralized Spikes in the run game by sealing him off by allowing him to run up the field and the RB runs on the other side of the seal. Spikes taking on Lynch one on one and taking him down for a 3 yard loss just didn't happen anymore as awesome it was.

But Spikes must be pulling a Randy Moss. I don't blame him after hearing who his new coach is. Nobody should have to suffer from Rex but too many of us do!

We've all heard the 4 hour warning from the Viagra/Cialis commercials, but what do you do about a 4 year eREXion?

I also like the fact that he was a fan and that he cleaned up the atmosphere of the old stadium.

Same with his chess moves with Hartford. If he had moved the team there I would have still gone to the games and supported the team.

The only thing I'll say is that the on-field success had more to do with B & B than the ownership. I'd call that more luck than kraftiness.

Is Rex going to be his new coach? I thought Spikes signed a 1 year deal in Buffalo, unless there was an extension I missed.

Eh Sorry I didn't know. I thought it was a 2 year deal.

Who brought in Belichick?

Who called someone that he had not talked to for years to bury the hatchet and give up a 1st round pick for Belichick?

Who brokered the end of the NFL strike a couple of years ago? After being begged from his wife's deathbed by BOTH sides to save the league?

It all starts at the top.

Greatest. Owner. In. American. Sports.

He'd step in an play in base D/short-yardage...20-25% of the snaps. Maybe

As I say in multiple threads -- not only did Kraft hire Bill Belichick, but his previous "failure" of a hire was Pete Carroll. Despite the tiny sample size (two), that's a heck of a track record.

Emperor Finnegan was so outmatched it wasn't even a contest.

I believe Spikes only signed a one year deal so he is a free agent again.

Hiring BB was a brilliant move in itself.

Now we've seen the results it's hard to remember what a brave call it was. Just contrast Belichick with all of those ranting-and-raving so-called "larger than life" head coaches. It was easy enough to dismiss him as lacking charisma -- a great co-ordinator but not head coach material. Mr Kraft saw beyond that -- and how right he was.

One of the very greatest things about BB is how comfortable he is with a system in which he takes responsibility for everything. And one of the greatest things about Mr Kraft is that he had the guts to make that hire, the humility to turn things over to BB and the loyalty to back him all the way.

That's actually a pretty awesome tweet!

As Mike the Brit says, I don't think people remember just what a gutsy move it was to hire Belichick. Let alone give up what they did for him. I remember clearly an article by Mike Holley saying that if Belichick was at the top of Kraft's coaching list they needed to burn the list because he didn't even want to know who else was on it. Belichick was considered s failure and someone who would destroy the organization.

I wouldn't mind having Spikes back in the fold if he can mend fences with Coach Belichick. He'd be an excellent relief for the defense, and he knows the system.

He'd be an upgrade over our current backups but thats the role he'd be playing. I think he believes he's a 3 down starter, which he's not.

He won't crack the starting duo of Collins/Hightower and we have Mayo returning.

If he'd accept a "role", yeah, please, his attitude and knack for forcing fumbles are great for a physical defense.
