Great report.
It's very valuable having your report and Grid's together. You see mainly the same thing, though you express it very differently, according to your respective styles and personalities. It jibes with what I've seen:
- Scherff is very physical, very tenacious, and potentially dominant as a run blocker
- Scherff has limited mobility ("is heavy footed") and struggles with speed rushers in pass protection
Another guy whose scouting reports I really like is Drew Boylhart, who writes for the HuddleReport, a pay per view site. He, like Grid, tends to be very frank in his assessments and is quite willing to go against the grain. It's a site worth subscribing to. He gives Scherff a 2nd round grade, and agrees that he's much better suited to guard, with some ability to potentially play RT.
Scherff's certainly not a LT, and certainly not a top 10 pick, as many project him to be. I've always assumed that Scherff's stock will drop in the pre-draft evaluation period when his tape gets picked apart and when his athleticism and arm length are found lacking. Grid goes further, and says that not only is best suited to guard, but best suited to RG. Spending a 1st round pick on a LG is one thing; spending it on a RG is another. That has me wanting to re-assess Scherff's tape. I've been happy to see if he drops to the late 1st round and consider him as a LG; but if he's too "heavy footed" to play that position well, it would certainly affect my draft grade.
