All year, Shaughnessy has been talking about how the Pats have been playing tomato cans and really hasn't been challenged. Now he posts this on Twitter:

Wow. Tomato Can Theory out the window. Pats will have to play Big Boy football vs. coach and QB that don't fear Gillette.

So Green Bay, Detriot, Denver, Colts, Cincy, etc. are tomato cans, but the Ravens, who went 2-5 against teams with winning records (both wins against the Steelers), are the big boys?

the best is when the ravens lose he'll be all "the patriots continue to play tomato cans, however this week they face a real challenge in colts/broncos" despite the fact that the patriots already beat both teams this year.

C'mon Rob, did you really expect anything different. Like I said before, I refuse to take the bait. This kind of obvious crap can't piss me off (at least so far. ).

I console myself in believing that the media this week is doing BB's heavy lifting for him. This week BB doesn't have to over hype the opponent. It must be tiresome to hear how every week you are playing the second coming of the 85 Bears from the same source. Well Rob, the players got LAST week off, so its only fair that, at least in this small area, BB get this week off. If BB wants to create that mountain sized chip on the collective shoulder of his team, he doesn't have to say anything. All he has to do is blindly point his finger at any link or article, and it will do it all for him.

Don't get angry or frustrated Rob, YOUknow the difference between the myth of the Ravens and the truth. Let them give BB a free ride on the motivation train and just wait for the explosion. Pay back is gonna be a *****., baby!

Spot on.
Sadly the business model for sports writers and sports radio, etc. is to troll the audience for attention.
Bumps up the ratings, ups the page clicks and helps the business sell advt
Has nothing to do with "reporting" or fact based analysis any more
Reiss and a minority of others excluded

See: Mike Klis and his claim of Harris Jr. being the best CB in the league and it's "not close." Guys just put stuff out hoping to get their name in the news cycle.

Fair point Rob - but we really shouldn't be surprised when Shaugnessy does anything stupid. He's a troll. His only skill is being a troll. He's not smart, he's not cogent, and he isn't good at analyzing sports - but he's good at being a jackass, presumably from a lifetime of practice.

What a condescending term, "big boy football." Shaughnessy is the last person to know "big boy" anything, especially football.

As I always do, I read the Globe's Score Monday pro football supplement from beginning to end today except for one item: Shank's column. Haven't read one word of his since October and can't believe how better off I am.

None of this stuff bothers me. I think it is funny with the hypocrisy.

I also am interest how long the media will spin Saturday's game into the Pats will be lucky if they only lose by 40 points. The legend of the Ravens are growing. I think it is more fascinating than annoying. Of course the new trend by the media is to spend 20 minutes talking about how Flacco is the best playoff QB ever and the Ravens defense is an unstoppable force only to finish the 20 minute rant with "of course, the Pats should win, but who knows".

You do realize that this guy is paid to agitate you, right? By being agitated enough to link to his tweet and complain about him, you're giving him exactly what he wants. You're basically paying his salary. If you really can't stand the guy, just stop talking about him.

He must be focused on tomato cans, because isn't that the old-school cure for getting rid of the smell if you had been sprayed by a skunk?

Playoffs ... when the morons come out from under their rocks.
