Because he's become a favourite for some of us, finally there's a chance for us to get a look at TJ Clemmings.

Four notes:

  • This game was the one I watched that had me in full hyperbole mode. you'll see why.
  • Just remember that this is only his second year as an offensive lineman and then think about what might still be possible.
  • You may want to watch the play at 1:58 over and over
  • 4. James Conner might just be my favourite player in CFB.

Discuss.

manman RT?? I thought we would look for a LT I Like Cameron Fleming going forward as a gameday back-up T. Really surprised how Marcus Cannon regressed he has looked horrible this year both at T and G.

I see him as a potential LG in the Mankins mould.

Clemmings is a 4 position lineman. I think he could be a dominant LG, RG or RT, and a solid LT. He's a cross between Mankins, Vollmer and Joel Bitonio.

It was funny watching him but I had the thought that he looked like a larger Rob Gronkowski blocking with surprisingly quick feet for such a large man. Then he snuck out for the TD catch and I had to laugh.

To quote Wes Welker he has great feet. Definitely a nasty streak which I like. Plays well in space. Great recognition and understanding of their blocking concepts. Came off his initial block on one play picking up another rusher from the outside. Good leverage. Impressive.

He does seem to come off the ball high at times which is correctable. He certainly can bend and gets low for impact. I agree he probably can play guard but I think RT is his natural position and if you plug him in there you're probably looking at a long term starter with pro bowl upside.

Good to see you back on here. Will you be commenting more often? I hope so.

And I agree with you on Clemmings. He has an impressive grasp of how to play the position considering how little time he's had at the position.

The player he reminds me of funnily enough is Ziggy Ansah because a) He's body beautiful for the position B) Really understands the position considering how little time he's spent there and C) Has the potential to dominate in the NFL considering his perfect size and athleticism. Ziggy was a pass rusher so obviously Clemmings won't climb that high but I can see him climbing higher still.

Thanks. I should have more time coming up. I usually watch video at lunch at work and while I'm on the cycling trainer in the morning. I have a new role at work and haven't had the time to check the board never mind watch video and it's been such a nice fall I've stayed outside longer on the bike than past years. I'll start watching on the trainer. Also it's never a bad thing to take a break from the board. By draft day I was a bit burnt out.

I agree with you he could be a high riser. A team with a need at RT in the teen to mid 20's could easily justify picking him up there. One thing I think we all need to get away from is "NFL Draft Scout ranks this player 32nd so how can you say he's going 16th." Every year there are players draft both up and down dramatically different than the rankings. Cody Latimer who I loved last year I kept saying he wouldn't make it out of the 2nd in spite of NFLDS's 6th round ranking. We all have those players every year. Fuller was a mid 2nd who went mid 1st, etc. Rankings are a baseline but not the end all.

Well said on the rankings and I agree with you on being burnt out last year because I really was. By the tie the draft came round, I genuinely hated the process. It's why I'm just dipping in at the moment rather than exhaustively watching film.
