Chad Jackson Injury Update...

I really hope people don't just forget about Caldwell. Yea sure, the guy has very limited upside, but if you need 5 catches a game for 45 yards, he is fairly reliable. I know Welker is going to take a lot of those reps but the other burners have high risk injury and a 4th guy like Caldwell off the bench would be valuable since he is relatively cheap and has a lot of experience coming off a season of being the #1 guy.

This is encouraging news, read somewhere this AM that the injury just happened running downfield on coverage, not the result of contact and the tear was minor in the big scale of things.

Not bad news but I'd take it with an enormous grain of salt. Almost every player that has ever had an ACL issue had a similar article wirtten about them at this time of year. Sometimes it is the truth, sometimes it is blind optimism.

One is placed on "preseason" PUP immediately prior to training camp. If you participate in a practice at camp, you are off.

It really doesn't matter what happens in minicamp or?? It all boils down to whether he is ready or not AT the start of training camp..If he is NOT ready PUP...(that is the preseason one..which means he is NOT practicing is NOT ready for full training camp..For those who have not gone to Gillette..they do a bit with the team, then head to the indoor facility..and then return later..)
Omce off this PUP list you can not return. If one is not ready at the end of camp then season PUP kicks in..and then those rules apply.
It is good news..but I wonder if they may not rush him this year..start him on PUP unless he is totally 100% ready.. minicamp can also be a place where
a goo look/see can be done. Doesn't matter if one practices then or not..TC is where it counts. Last year I think Pass did participate a bit in mini camp and yet was PUPed...so it's only at camp time that that is decided upon.

I watched them all... and for every catchable ball that may have fell, there was an uncatchable one that he reeled in and made look easy.

The way that article read, an ACL tear is an ACL tear in that the ligament needs to be replaced and once surgery is done it needs to be re-learned like any other ACL tear - the timetable just moves up based on early surgery. That's how I read it.

But the timetable for this season, while challenging, is doable.

But that's the only time he stepped up as teams focused more on Caldwell.

I don't understand the fascination of Gaffney, sure he stepped up in the playoffs because of the attention Caldwell got but what did he do before that?

He played in 11 games with 6 starts, recorded 11 receptions for 142 yards. It think Stallworth, Washington, Welker, Brown, Watson, and Thomas will all have better production than Gaffney. Where does he fit on the team?

I am happy for CJ.He is 21 and is quiet young and let him improve and also being a 2nd rounder we might able to sign him back ,if he improves for cheap in 2009 due to this initial problems.

Stallworth biggest problem is his inability to read playbooks and he is locked down as a starter even though we have repeated seen fast guys who cannot get the playbook let go....I would love to for someone to explain , how suddenly he is woke up and changed overnight.
Wes is not a every down #3 WR .He is too small and kelly being bigger the slot is going to shared by both.
Leaving the outside 2 WR as cadwell /gaffeney/stallwoth - again cadwell will be on the field most as brady trusts him - sometimes kelly in rotation here and in the slot with wes.

gaffeney in the playoff never really gave up on any play,last night they had the SD game on comcast and watching their were couple of times when every one was covered and he makes a clean break from his initial route and runs into the open areas of the field out running DB`s and made some catches[ again a sign of his reads are close to what brady is reading]

Yea, but something that Dr. hints to in terms of surgery window can also help his recovery. His not having much swelling suggest their was little strain, and damage on the surrounding knee. If he had a really bad tear with a lot of swelling it would be more likely he might have strained the PCL, or MCL, to go along with his ACL tear. Also, his being able to have reconstructive only 4 days later means he'll have a little more recovery time before the season.

Stallworth's biggest problem is his inability to read playbooks? You might want to rethink that one chief. His ability to learn playbooks fast was mentioned a number of times during free agency, and was a large part of why he had so much early success with McNabb. When McNabb and Stallworth both got hurt than his production dropped for awhile, buth still had a few 100 yard games with Garcia, who unlike McNabb wasn't looking his way first.

Good news, although the article appears to have a mixed message to me. It basically says, "no it's not as severe", but "yes, recovery time from the surgery is still in the same ballpark."

Nonetheless, great news to see he'll be running by summertime - hopefully he gets a TC under his belt (I couldn't tell if they were saying he would or would NOT be able to participate) and slowly starts to become a factor.

There is NO need to rush..PUP...he can still learn a LOT in camp even on PUP..that does not mean meetings are missed ONLY a large part of practice..With all the receivers they have why add another in a logjam...let him recover fully and be a possible add on in midseason...yes it is good news it is NOT bad..but NO rush!!

This will come down to both Jackson's psychological and physical healing...

Because it wasn't a traumatic injury I have some hope that the psychological aspect won't hold him back.

Basically, you need to learn to walk all over again following the surgery - regardless of how serious a tear or injury it was. Think newborn foal.

To go from that, to running and cutting with absolute confidence at full speed against NFL caliber blockers who are trying tackle your surgically repaired knee - that can be very tough to do when you're questioning whether your knee is up to the challenge.

This is why I think a guy like Dee Brown of the Celtics was never the same athlete after injuring himself.

But two things that are differrent between pro-athletes and me, aside from the football and athletic skills:

1.) Jackson didn't suffer major trauma. My Theisman like injury and the associated pain will never be gone, and;
2.) Jackson has the best Physical Therapists and conditioning people working with him. If I could spend 100% of my time rehabbing to build up muscle and confidence it would be that much more realistic that I could be physically and psychologically fully "healed".

Assuming Jackson is a good patient and can get his injuries (including the hammy) out of his head, he can still reach his potential - but none of this is good as far as I'm concerned.

Bottom line: Jackson could be everything we hoped when drafting him in Round 2 - but the team is not assuming anything and has WR well covered for next season with or without him.

I think Caldwell and Gaffney are about equal in talent. One stepped up big time in the playoffs while the other did OK, but was shaky at times. Remember Gaffney was signed in the middle of regular season. He didn't have a TC to get used to the offense.

I didn't see all the Notre Dame games but McKnight didn't impress me at all. Lots and lots of balls that were catchable that hit the ground.

Well, this makes sense. David Givens couldn't hold onto a ball to save his life his rookie year.
