Since the last thread got locked up because insano had to go insano for no reason, I want to start a new thread about NBA FA/offseason....

Anyway, @KontradictioN , I saw you posted that you didn't like the Bosh contract which I totally agree with. 5yr/129M max for him.... I don't know... Now that Bosh will be the #1 or 2 option I think he will avg. 22/10 for Miami but a max deal is a lot of money for a guy who's play has diminished since 2010 (even though that is from the big 3, still he didn't seem himself)

I also agree the 2yr/20m deal for Deng was a steal for the Heat. I thought his value was going to be 13-14M but I guess not.

One of my closer friends is a big Heat fan and after LeBron left his initial reaction was "blow it up" but I said "dude, you guys have all the cap space in the world, and you have the city of Miami to entice almost anyone.. not to mention Pat Riley doesn't tank and never will because he is one of the greatest NBA front office guys ever"

I have mad respect for Riley. As a Celtic fan I don't 'like' him but the respect is definitely there. I really like Wade as a player and I'm glad to see him resign in Miami because it still aches me everyday knowing Pierce couldn't finish his entire in Boston.

Kontra the only thing I would disagree with you on from the other thread is if CLE gets Kevin Love I think they can compete for a title against the Spurs. If not, they stand no chance, but Love is like Bosh but better shooter and rebounder. I also think LBJ took small year deal because after the two years, CLE can offer the 5yr/129M max to him and that max can be even more than that (idk how the cap will be and how the new CBA works)...

Outside of the LBJ crap, I think the East is going to be fun to watch this season (even if the C's are tanking it).
The Bulls with a 100% healthy Rose is the favorite to me.... that's a big IF though. the Pau signing is huge.
Pacers have gotten worse but will win games with a solid core
Heat will be good. 2-4 seed maybe even a 1.
Wizards. Love what they are doing and have a interest in their (Pierce's) success
Toronto. Young solid team
Hornets. Walker, Lance and Jefferson is good enough to make the playoffs again.
Cleveland will be a 1-3 seed of course as LBJ will lead them to 50+ wins in a weakened East.

The East is weak all around. there isn't a legit Miami Big 3-type team but it will be fun to watch.

Also, the Lakers are in worse shape than the Celtics if you ask me....

Paying Kobe the world as he ages... Pau left them. Dwight hated it. They don't have the assets (numerous picks) that the C's do and their core now including an overpaid Young and Hill and iffy and way overpaid Lin. Also Nash is done too.

So atleast there's that..

Even with Love, Cleveland would be lucky to get that series to six against the Spurs. San Antonio is simply too deep. In another couple of years, when they lose their young guys to FA and Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker are finally too old to get it done, they'll fall off. But they have to be the odd's-on favorite to win the title again as far as I'm concerned.

Celtic are trying to be the third team in a deal that would send Love to Cleveland...I wonder who the Celtics have their eye on? Maybe Wiggins???

What the hell would Minnesota get in that deal (aside from a raping)?

Nope - don't even start to get your hopes up. The Celts can supply guys who have expiring contracts or take players that would help balance salaries in a Love trade for Cleveland - whoever they get could be part of a future deal in which they get "real" players but there'd be no one of anywhere near the caliber of Wiggins

Ainge will gain a bit more ammunition, but as we've seen from this offseason, having the ammunition and turning that into a contender are two different things. That's no knock on Ainge - it happens (look at Houston) - Ainge's Plan A was to get Love but once the dominoes started falling with LeBron it wasn't going to happen. Ainge is moving on to Plan B - Z now. It will take longer but he still has some good ammunition to rebuild with.

True - but it's also LA. I never rule out someone very decent agreeing to a sign and trade to play in that big market. That can change a team's prospects quickly

Paying Kobe from a rebuilding standpoint made no sense. From a BBall business standpoint I can't argue with what the Lakers did. It was doubtful the Lakers would contend for the next several years - but Kobe will keep fans in the seats and watching. From a business standpoint overpaying Kobe makes sense - and I think Kobe knew that any money he left on the table would generally be wasted anyways - he might as well take it!

I guess Miami did overpay Bosh but in a generally weak East they've done a decent job of remaining more than relevant with what they've got - but that required them to overpay Bosh. Losing LBJ just hurts and I'd agree Miami has no chance against to beat the West without him.

I agree - LBJ and Love can certainly contend with the Spurs. A lot can happen in a season or series.

And while Love's defensive skills are very suspect, with the amount of offense that team can put up, defense might not matter much for them.

Minny should insist on Wiggins, Tristan Thompson + 3 1st-rounders (every other year, like the Cs
received from NJ). Cleveland would naturally rather part with Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett +
conditional pick/s.

If the Cs are somehow involved, Danny should absolutely demand that the bloated contracts of both
Jeff Green & Gerald Wallace be included…and of Marcus Thornton if possible.

The poster I quoted floated the idea of Wiggins to Boston, which prompted the question. But, in general, I agree with you.

Yeah, there's no way that Wiggins would ever be sent to the Cs as part of a 3-way. The best that
Danny could hope is that one or more of the aforementioned contracts are included in exchange for
draft picks and/or trade exceptions.

we already helped Cleveland get LeBron...i am not sure we should be helping them land Love. No matter what we get in the deal would not help us improve and we cant compete with LeBron/Love for the next 7 or so years.

what does everyone think the plan is for all these draft picks? Certainly we are not going to use them all in the draft

LeBron and Love would only be together for two years max. After that, LeBron will probably opt out and go elsewhere.

That Paul George injury, though...

Scalabrick should not ever have played for the Cs. One of Danny's very worst signings.
Not as bad as Jeff Green, but still...

I love scall. glad hes coming back to the Celtics broadcasts

So LeBron is off the roids???

No need to be on the roids now; Kevin Love is coming to town (for Wiggins, Anthony Bennett
+ a protected 2015 1st), so he'll be the one grabbing the defensive rebounds.
The trade is contingent upon Love signing a 5-year extension.
If I were Minnesota, I'd insist on Tristan Thompson instead of Bennett.
