Think those 40 times will scare most teams off?

Those numbers are the fastest in the combine.

This guy is one hell of a route runner.

This guy will never have break away speed but if you need someone to get open then Ball is your man. With numbers like that he's just improved his stock 10 fold.

I've been a fan for awhile now. On ESPN I posted probably about three different threads featuring his scouting reports, and bios. I think he could be the next sleeper pick, who turns into a productive pro. I'd probably spend a 6th round comp on him.

Listen, I just said the Ball kid might be able to be productive in the NFL, but those 40 times would drop anyone in the draft. To expect otherwise is unrealistic.

I like the guy so much I almost wish he goes to a team that he has a chance to succeed. Imagine this kid fighting with 7 or 8 other Wr's on our team? I'd draft him with a 6th or 7th and put him on the practice squad. It would be nice if he could fill in when Caldwell and Gaffney are gone. Who knows maybe he will be a stud?

Here's the closing from his Scouts Inc. Scouting report:

"Ball displays exceptional hands and he is an outstanding route-runner, which is why he has a chance to contribute as a sub-package receiver in the NFL. However, Ball is essentially a possession receiver prospect with marginal speed and a lean frame. He will struggle to make the transition to the NFL, where he won't be able to consistently separate like he did at the DI-AA level in college. As such, Ball projects as a late-round pick in 2007."

Expecting Ball to be around for those six round comps is not out of the question, and he could even go later.

I've just seen a couple of full 7 round mocks that have him going early 6th round and just about in a spot where our 5th round comp pick would be i'm just saying.
People say you can't teach speed but you sure can work at it and i'm betting he'll get that stright line speed and for the record he is still coming offf a minor injury in one of the east-west games (in which he went 3 catchs for 90 yards)

I am a UNH alum and have seen David Ball play since his sophomore season. He has decent height, good leaping ability, runs great routes, and has great hands. He will never be a deep threat, but he can be a really solid possession receiver. He catches the ball with tight coverage better than any college receiver I've ever seen.

In the local paper here in NH, they reported that his average 40 time was 4.63 and his best was 4.59. Not sure where the 4.7 is coming from, this is the only place I've seen that.

Note: He is also coming off a hamstring injury, and is NOT at 100%. I think his vertical leap is usually better than 33", I always thought it was closer to 40". I also think he can run in the mid-4.5's on a good day. And he's going to participate in another Pro Day on March 30th.

No, Jerry Rice ran 4.53 and 4.55 and set all kinds of all time receiving records. So although he had average NFL speed, he was a tall possession receiver par excellence.

we better not talk about him too much though remeber when everyone had Pat Willis near our pick then we started talking and he jumper like 10 spots we have too much power i think LOL
