Exum over Sunseri and Thomas over Grice. Also I would rather double dip at DT or DE (Lynch?) than TE at 140 and maybe look later for a possible move TE conversion. Other than that, nice job! :)

I think there needs to be a rule . . . trade away Mallett if you want, but you have to explain how the Pats will replace him.

Sign Jeff Matthews and Connor Shaw as an UDFA and let them compete for the backup job. Draft Brady's heir apparent in the 2015 draft.

Why would 2015 be a better year to go QB then 2014? Ya sure the top may be better, but that doesnt help Patriots, it's not like the getting a top 3 pick with a email.. If they beleave the right one is there, they sprint to the podium regardless.

The only plausible reason to "wait" is that a QB drafted this year would have his contract expire in 2017, as TFB's currently does.

Of course, there's no guarantee that Brady won't get yet another extension. . . .

Aside from the fact that he'll be 40.

Personally, I would wait until 2016 to draft Brady’s replacement but I said 2015 to compromise with those who want to draft it this year. Rookies sign 4-year deals; Brady has 4-years remaining on his current deal so barring injury or some type of dramatic drop off in Brady’s play we would have to resign the QB selected this season before he even started a football game for us. If we are going to do that, we might as well just resign Mallett and let him be Brady’s heir apparent and not waste the draft pick this year.

But teams hold a 5th year option on 1st round picks. Something to consider regarding the Pats and QBs in the draft.

What if he is still playing at a high level, I don't think its crazy to think Brady could sign a 2 year deal after this one or go on a year-to-year basis?

We need a lot of depth on our roster this season.

The aspect of things we haven't discussed: is BB really gonna spend a valuable draft pick and carry 3 QBs on our 53 man roster for a guy that won't help the team this year and rarely see the field in the next 4 years?

Better solution: Take a guy like Matthews, Shaw, or Renner as UDFA and keep him on our practice squad this year

The fifth year option is only for first round selections. I cannot see the Patriots taking a QB in round one.

Late night trying my best Mock (no trades):
1. Dee Ford, DE, Auburn
2. ASJ, TE, Washington
3. Andre Williams, RB, BC
4. Prince Shembo, OLB, ND
4. Aaron Murray, QB, UGA
6. Hakeem Smith, S, L-Ville
6. John Urschel, OL, PSU
7. Jeremy Gallon, WR, Michigan

Last 3 picks are probably outta order but I enjoy this mock

A promising QB is the most valuable commodity in the league. The problem with the practice squad solution is that if they show any promise, another team will scoop them up. That's why Brady was on the 53 man roster as a 4th QB in 2000.

No shot Jeff Matthews, Bryn Renner, and Connor Shaw are all on NFL Rosters Week 1. Take the guy develop him on the practice squad for a year and then bring him up after a season to be Brady's back up after Mallet leaves. If the team isn't high on his development draft a QB next year to compete.

I just don't view QB as a need this year. Especially with more pressing issues at TE, OL, DL, LB, S, and even RB

Really like the majority of the picks, the only thing I would change is change the Easley pick to ASJ or Niklas. Leave Martin at 62 and Smith at 84. With DT now a need at 93 and assuming DaQuan Jones and Easley are gone, go with McCullers just on sheer potential and the fact that he will occupy blockers strictly based on size alone. If coaches can teach him to use his hands better the sky is the limit.

Love the rest of the picks and the UDFAs

I hope he is. But there's only been a handful of quarterbacks in NFL history that have played at a high level approaching, at, or beyond 40. Brady may be one of those guys but history isn't exactly on his side. Even Favre, who enjoyed a career year at 40, fell off badly the next year. As the body starts to get older, it has more and more trouble absorbing and getting up from the type of his that it otherwise had no problem taking when it was in it's 20's or even it's 30's. As for the bolded, we would only carry three for one year. Mallett is likely gone next offseason.
