I was looking some info about Mayo and his recovery since I didn't hear a thing after his injury which is not easy to recover.

Found this in Reiss blog, a interview with Ninko.

He’s been working out with linebacker Jerod Mayo, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve after tearing his pectoral muscle Oct. 13 against the New Orleans Saints.

“Me and Mayo are in there, he’s a pretty explosive guy, so I try to keep up with [him],” he said. “He’s looking good right now. I’ve been training with him for a long time, and it’s always good to have somebody to push you and make you better.”

For whatever reason, the impact of Mayo's injury wasn't given the consideration it was due.. I honestly think having him back in line-up was WAY overlooked..

When healhty he is our best tackler and more importantly calls plays from the linebacker position.. They have also been blitzing him from the inside at times.. I'm not an X's and O's guy, but I think his presence in the line-up absolutely frees up hightower/collins both positionally and 'in the huddle'..

I remember not so long ago that many had him as our #1 Defender... The guy can flat-out play...

I had Mayo and Wilfork as 1A to 1AA with Mayo perhaps shading Wilfork being he's a 3 down player. I firmly believe Mayo is one of the best MLB/ILB linebackers in the NFL. With Revis in the fold, I see Mayo as the second biggest acquisition on D for the 2014 Patriots D. The guy is simply that good.

He was on a pace for over 90 tackles when he got hurt.

Does anyone know the "real word" on how he's doing? Those who know a lot more about this than I know are always pointing out that being in good "Workout shape" isn't the same as being in "NFL Gameday shape"

I heard some concerning things about this type of injury back in the time he got IR'd. Basically every move a person does with his arms recruits some work from the pecs.

The bench press should be a basic exercise from a LB to work the strength of his arms, shoulder and pectoral. I would like to know how many months someone who underwent that type of surgery has to wait until starts to workout again.

The fact that he got injured on week 6 gives me some optimism that he will be ok for training camp;

For the most part, Mayo has been underappreciated on this board. Hopefully last year's experience will begin to change some perspectives around here.

In before "he only makes tackles 5+ yards downfield and never makes the big plays" posts.

Mayo can do it all, and the Pats ask him to.

It wasn't an accident that he was DROY.

He got 49 of 50 votes, and the 50th guy actually came out and admitted he meant to vote for Mayo, too.

With Talib on the field last year, Dennard was a great fit on the #2 receiver, Arrington was in his natural slot position, and Ryan was a versatile guy that could fill in anywhere. When Talib went down, suddenly Dennard has to cover guys that are a little better than him, Arrington has to move outside (ugh) and Ryan is forced into too much use as a rookie.

Mayo had a similar effect on the linebackers. With him on the field, Spikes/Hightower could take on the guards and be the downhill thumpers and occasional blitzers that make them most effective. Without Mayo, Hightower now only had to take on a "roaming" linebacker role that doesn't best suit his physical skills, but he also had to jump in and make the reads as a second year player. Even Mayo had a tough time making that adjustment his sophomore year.

If Mayo can come back and be the guy we know, every other linebacker improves by default.

That's pretty cool. I never knew that.

If you were that one guy, wouldn't you do the same?

I can't wait to have Mayo back.

Especially because the one vote went to Keith Rivers from Cincinnati, who was best known as a rookie for being IR'd by a massive block to the jaw from Hines Ward. He only played in 7 games before missing the rest of the season.

I really think Mayo will have a career year as far as being aggressive and making plays in the system we seem to be going towards. He is perfect for the WILL

Game he had vs the bengals was ridiculous. Shame it went to waste.

Joe Staley for Mayo has got to be one of the more win-win trades in recent memory.

Mayo is a fantastic LB, we're extremely lucky to have him.
