Dane Fletcher

Dane Fletcher to visit Oakland Raiders - ESPN Boston

I kind of feel for this guy. He joins the Patriots as an undrafted college defensive lineman who converts to linebacker and becomes a special teams ace. Loses a year to a knee injury. Now he's beating the bushes visiting places like Oakland. Imagine going to an organization like that after beginning your career with New England. But I suppose he should consider himself fortunate to continue anywhere in the NFL.

I recall Fletcher showing flashes of promise at outside linebacker before his knee injury. I wish him the best. I haven't heard if the Patriots are at all interested in bringing him back -- anyone know?

I think it's like with Edelman last year: the door's still open, but they don't want to stand in the way of a better offer.

A couple of thoughts on this:

(1) His contract contains $1.2M guaranteed, which is probably much more than the Pats were willing to guarantee.

(2) That means he counts towards the FA formula as a quality FA lost, which is important, because it (for now) restores the 3rd round comp pick for losing Talib.

(3) It also means that if the Pats do draft Jordan Tripp, there won't be any Montana/Montana State tension.

Good for Fletcher he deserves a payday and an opportunity for significant reps.

Payday perhaps props to him for hard work and success

... significant reps not so much ... he is what he is ... situational.

I'd love to have 1 year of making 1.2mil ... I'd be set for life.

BB is looking at him and his teammate (Brock Coyle) to draft.

I bet with careful planning I could do the same with the .2

600k at best after taxes. Being a millionaire ain't worth the same any more.

Even with 200k.

For 20 to 25k per I could mortgage other apartment buildings like the one Ive owned for 4 years. Mine was not that exceptional especially at 5.5%. Property is still very cheap around here and the rental demand very high. If I was treating lets say 4 new buildings like a business and not a home (silly renovation projects) I could be clearing 1,000 a month over expenses (mortgage, taxes, insurance, utilities and maintenance) per building.

Just takes a handful of those to make a livable income.

LOL
That's why when I'm not looking at PATSFANS. I'm watching CNBC!!!

1 Million today can't make me stop working.

Florida doesn't have income tax. So i'm sure it's more than $600k

Yes, but IIRC he has to pay income taxes on part of his income in the states where Tampa plays during the regular season.

Matt Chatham without the flair.

Congratulations to him. He earned whatever he's getting.

d%#*!@t

Ate at his parents restaurant just the other night.

Bummed that Patriots central is going away in Bozeman

LOL

I'm not sure if youre laughing AT me or not

But I wasn't bragging because I dont pretend to be that successful and I'm not passing myself off as a business man.

I have though, owned this apartment building for four years. I now know the hidden costs and trapfalls of owning an apartment building and being a landlord. I've got a proven "system" of sifting through tenants and finding the ones that are reliable and safe (basically just being firm about last months, security, getting referrals and using your judgement about the stability of a said applicant etc).

I know that there are similar situations/buildings out there because it's kind of a thing with me to look at other buildings and compare them to what I bought then (cusp of the market crashing) with what I could be buying (if I was in the market now).

What I might be wrong about, is whether banks would let me finance another 4 buildings or not even with 200k in hand.

My only point being, that even 200k is absolutely enough seed money to make a comfortable living for the rest of your life... if you're careful.
