I think both are ineligible for PS. I know Buchanan is.

OK, either way:

Woodyard/Shaughnessy/Clemons replacing Bequette/Beaharnais/Buchanon is a MAJOR depth upgrade for that front seven for (hopefully) moderate money.

Talent-wise + saving the wear and tear on CJones/Ninkovich/Mayo who all took too much punishment the past 2 years.

I'd LOVE to see a fresh and ANGRY rotation in there this year with Hightower and Collins. Let 'em fly!

How beautiful would THAT be to bring those three guys in and cut Bequette while moving Beauharnais and Buchanan to the PS for more seasoning? And if not Buchanan to PS, then cut Andre Carter (love him, but he just doesn't have anything left in the tank at this point).

Carter should be cut regardless of whatever else happens.

Again, I prefer Mike Neal to Shaughnessy (more athleticism, explosiveness and upside, IMO), but I'd be OK with either.

- A DE rotation of Jones/Ninkovich/Clemons/Neal-Shaughnessy/Buchanan would be terrific. Plus Armond Armstead could get some time at DE, and Hightower and Collins have the ability to rush from the edges.

- A LB rotation of Mayo/Collins/Hightower/Woodyard, plus either Fletcher or a rookie (Jordan Tripp or Christian Jones, please) would be fantastic. Plus Ninkovich and Neal-Shaughnessy could get some time at LB.

That leaves DT and the secondary to address, but it's a good start.

Could they sign both Shaughnessy AND Neal? Now that'd be a sight. I might prefer that to Clemons for age reasons. Don't think I could take another (potential) season of Andre Carter v. 2.0.

I thought of that, and they undoubtedly could. But Chris Clemons at reasonable cost would probably provide better depth behind Chandler Jones and more productivity as a pure edge rusher.

Clemons officially released by Seattle, per Albert Breer, FWIW.

Bequette and Beauharnais are practice squad eligible. You have to be active for less than 9 games or less to qualify.

But this is going to be the year it all comes together for Jake....

We need upgrades or replacements for Bequette, Carter, Beauharnais, Fletcher and Spikes.
Collins is one of those replacements.

It is good to see Belichick focusing on this need.

They can send Bequette and Beauharnais off to the local industrial park for all I care…

Buchanan for me is another story, I think he is special and will be one of the more surprising players on the Patriots next season. He slipped in the draft due to a broken jaw that resulted in weight loss of about 30 lbs. leading to a poor senior season. He is very talented, and last season he was productive as a pass rusher, he lost his reps due to his inability to play the run. Those are technique and assignment issues, a full offseason will help, I also expect him to add 10-15 lbs. to his frame. I have Buchanan down for 5-7 sacks next season, I am very high on him, and I expect him to be the LDE of the future and pair with Jones to make up one of the best tandems in the NFL.

Buchanan will make the team. We'll see how well he does.

Maybe it's a strategy to make other teams overspend and we get them cheap later on. Right?

This is why you can't read into player visits to NE. A lot of them leave with no contract

It's when they see Foxboro.

Gawd, can there be a more depressing road than Route 1?

A Haitian riot burns fewer tires.

They're chauffeured in limos with tinted windows as BB sits directly across from them asking questions. They see nothing until it pulls up to the stadium.

We need handcuffs and blindfolds.

Route 1 is THAT bad. Seriously, doesn't the Town of Foxboro have ANY pride?
