Going all in is a terrible strategy, how often does that work out? usually you have a good team then fall off a cliff, I'll wait until after the draft and see what this team looks and I'm more than happy with the strategy they've used since 2000. People aren't pretending that Brady will be replaced easily. But you can't assume the current status of the roster will be exactly the status of the roster when Brady retires.

Three years from now, we may have a young stud RB. We may have the best OL in the league. Maybe Dobson becomes one of the best WRs in the league. Maybe our defense is lethal. I don't expect this to happen, just pointing out how things can change quickly in today's NFL. The Seahawks won the AFC West in 2010 with a 7-9 record. The division was garbage. In 2014, it would be a shock if there's a better one.

That's the point, it's not some blind stupidity that we think our next QB will be just as good as Tom Brady. It's the reality that in a few years the team might be in a position to not "need" a Tom Brady but still be a good team.

Open to enjoying the possibility that Talib's nagging hip injury was aggravated to the point of career altering by Welker. Wouldn't that be poetic justice. Especially since Talib got all he really wanted anyway with the guaranteed; can go straight back to smoking blunts to his heart's content.

SB39 is the most sensible realist in the entire thread.

So many that are satisfied and happy with "winning the division" so often. Uh, yeah, as if that is some great accomplishment when you are the only team with a HOF QB and the three other teams are floundering in QB hell this entire time. How many QBs have started for the other three teams in Brady's career? How many coaches have been fired with those other teams during this time (when they suffered the ultimate failure of having total suck at QB)?

It is undeniable how important this position is and yet everyone wants to sing the praises of BB religiously while he has had one of the best situations ever set up for a coach. It wasn't his "genius" that landed the Pats Brady. It was pure coincidental luck.

How was he doing with Bledsoe? Hmm? People forget that (conveniently).

Sure 2008 was impressive coming off a 16-0 record, but how many of those starters were either drafted before BB was the head coach or attained as known commodity free agents in their aging years that made that **** happen?

Who can deny the team has fallen off greatly in talent since the core of that team retired?

Yet Tom is getting older. Year after year the plan is to build for some "future" while Tom is getting older. How many years does he have left? Why isn't the strategy to go all in before he is gone? WTF? It is sad and embarrassing.

The problem seems to be more poor free agency choices and bad luck due to injury than it does not spending money.

As I pointed out, in 2010 they spent 151 million in cash (2nd out of 32 teams). Again, in 2012 they spent 160 million in cash (2nd out of 32 teams).

It isn't the refusal to address the weaknesses or anything about being cheap, it's poor talent evaluation and bad luck with injuries.

Hopefully, that changes with some upcoming decisions. I do agree with you that there were a couple of signings today that I'd have wanted to see. The Ward and Joseph signings come to mind for me.

The reality is that it is very hard to find a top drawer QB so once you lose an all time great, you are probably falling off a cliff no matter what you did with the cap.

That's just it, it is not spending the money. I never said that. It is the choices. BB's ego gets in the way. His "patriot way" mantra has been revealed to mean "you are not the reason we are winning, I am". When a star is on the team and he wants attention/credit/big money deal, he is quickly jettisoned. YOU NEED THOSE PLAYERS. Yet he gets rid of them.

The only two players I see that have survived his "get rid of him" outlook on those that make a difference are Tom and Vince. I figure Bob had a lot to do with Vince surviving the typical purge of a talent like him, seeing as how he is family.

Other than them BB does seem to have an affinity for olinemen, maybe it is their typical personality (or I don't know what) but they do tend to get taken care of more than anyone else.

Randy Moss was taking the team to unprecedented heights. He wanted to be PAID and be on the team. Yeah, **** that, get rid of him. Oh and then all the fans will talk **** about him and trash him after the fact.

Wes Welker wanted just a little more respect for what he had done for the team, you know maybe a couple of million more a season than a team he had done NOTHING for was offering him? What did he get? **** on by BB and Bob. Then the fans jumped in to pile on in good measure.

Fine by me, I've always maintained that until he strings together a couple durable seasons he is not worth that money. Would've liked him back on an incentive based reasonable deal but if he's getting that kind of contract, I don't want it to be with us. Also hopefully this should fetch us a nice compensatory pick.

From our side, I'm more disappointed we didn't go harder after Verner seeing what he is getting from Tampa.

Fair enough. That could be. I could be adversely affected by those defenders I see because it gets so old.

Let me clarify that... those that act as though no one would have done better. Meaning "what do you expect, everyone makes mistakes". Well not everyone has one of the best QBs of all time (in a division with three teams in QB hell the entire time). Especially one proven to be so clutch when he had the necessary talent around him.

Not sure I'd have been happy with us paying this kind of money for him. There are some nice options out there and we have a young, talented group.

I'm more concerned with a pass rush to help our secondary than I am with Talib.

With that kind of money I'd have wanted him to buy a new hip!

the panthers back in 1996 signed a bunch of old vets and made it to the NFCCG in there 2th year and then never won more then 8 games for the next 6 years that's going all in and mortgaging your future,


Denver replaced Champ Bailey a 35 year old CB with a young all pro CB at the same price Bailey was making and they got a all pro safety at a bargain at 5.5 million that's not mortgaging your future that's upgrading your roster with good young talent,

I understand its day one and the pats will make some good moves and Draft some good players to stay on top like they always do but just because that works for the pats dose not mean that's the way every team should do it like I said they replace Bailey with a all pro that is 8 years young at the same price and a bargain at SS
