Late Round Steals

Wesley Johnson OT Vanderbilt worked out as OC at Combine 1st Team AllSEC LT

Wesley Johnson is interesting. He's a 50-game starter who played almost every position on the Vandy OL. Former Vandy HC James Franklin said Johnson could be a 12 year player in the NFL:

Johnson also has some fire in him, as this article and accompanying video show, when he went berserk at halftime because of a lackluster 1st half against UMass, a game that Vandy came back to win handily:

Matt Miller wrote about Johnson:

He's a mobile, agile left tackle who added strength this season in order to better fuel the run game. It's paid off, as Johnson has been a dominant tackle in the SEC all season. With his athleticism and experience, Johnson will get plenty of NFL looks. Add in his improved strength and his fluid footwork, and you have a player now inside the top 120 prospects of the 2014 class.

Johnson's 29" vertical and 4.64 short shuttle also fit right into the Pats' OL profile.

Matt Miller loves Jordan Tripp:

It's fun to imagine how dominant Jordan Tripp could have been at a major program or even at Montana if used better. A fluid, impressive athlete in space, Tripp was never unleashed on the offense. His numbers may not be special, but his upside is.

Tripp is an attacking player off the edge, and I see a future NFL starter in his range, instincts and three-down ability as a linebacker. Tripp, who recently accepted a Senior Bowl invite, has the tools to shoot up boards once NFL teams get a closer look at him.

That was from December. Tripp reportedly looked very athletic in drills at the Senior Bowl, then put up tremendous Combine numbers: 4.67 40, 37.5" VJ, 10' BJ, 22 BP, 6.89 3C, 3.96 SS. His short shuttle time was the best for a LB since AJ Hawk in 2006.

Not sure he's a "late round steal" anymore.

It would be kinda funny to have him and Montana State alum Fletcher on the same team.

I mentioned Tripp yesterday in your "measuring explosion" thread. His combine numbers had me looking at him closely and I like what I see. As I said, he comes off as your prototypical Patriot because of his work ethic and attitude alone.

My bad - I knew someone had mentioned him yesterday, but I couldn't remember who or where, and I was in the middle of working on something.

For more on Tripp, see the new "measuring movement" thread. Movement + explosiveness is a great athletic combination.
