What the Pats want for Mallet according to

This has been known for about 3 years. And it basically just says that the Pats have 0 interest in trading Mallet because Al Davis wouldn't even give up a 2nd round pick for him.

If anything, Mallet's value has decreased since joining New England. He has never looked good when on the field. His only accomplishment in the NFL is throwing the pass that helped break the tight end yardage record.

The Mallet zealots are absolutely nuts in thinking things like "Houston will draft Clowney #1 and trade #33 for Mallet!!!"

Three of those teams will draft Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles. The Raiders already have two young QBs that actually have playing experience in Pryor/McGloin if they don't draft one of those three.

I just don't see where the market is for Mallett. If I'm a team in need of a QB, I would much rather one of the big 3 QBs on a cheap, 4 year rookie contract. I also would probably prefer Derek Carr at the top of the 2nd round making a million a year for four years than Mallett with 1 year left as well.

It would have to be a high second to make me think about it, and I'm not sure who would do that.

The Pats now have invested in Mallet the original third round pick and several years of tutelage. He's presumably a much better player than he was then, and a much more able backup.

If they move him, they probably have to spend a mid-rounder on a backup QB, anyway, and then re-invest the time to get them up to speed, and hope Brady stays healthy in the meanwhile.

Fact is, Mallet's worth more to us than any other team should reasonably for him. Unless we aren't high on him and some other team is, I don't see this going down.

The problem with a 2nd for Mallett is that most of the teams that would have enough interest in a QB to do so are picking in the top half of the draft. If you split things up more with half-rounds, I don't think Mallett is worth a top 16, 2nd rounder.

One possibility I considered was Arizona at 20, but with Carson Palmer do they NEED to spend a resource like that on competition? Probably not.

But hey, I never would have thought someone would trade a 1st for Trent Richardson, so if the Pats nab a 2nd for Mallett I shouldn't be surprised.

Unlike Mallett, he's played, but he's played terrible. I don't understand why a team would want to trade for this guy rather than drafting their own rookie.

Draftniks always think about moving Mallett, The thing they forget is that the Pats will pay more than what they get, to merely replace him. They never think about that cost, and only envision using the draft pick for their fanciful addition of a passed over Top10 pick, elsewhere.

If or when Ryan Mallett walks next year, the Pats get at least a compensation third rounder, for any new contract that he signs. So why would you give up a cheap season of a backup QB.

There are those who think he can never be the successor, and that might be true, but I think he has a very good possibility of being above average on his own, and with his rare athletic ability, and a possibility of being very good too.

As much as I think it would be a mistake for Houston, I CAN envision a scenario where they trade the 33rd pick for Mallett. If they feel they can't pass up the opportunity to draft Clowney, and there's a run on QBs in the first round so that, by the time they are picking at 33, the top prospects are off the board. Then, with a night to think about it, they may talk themselves into Mallett for 33.

Still a longshot, I wouldn't bet any money on it, but if it's going to happen that would be why.

• Texans get Clowney and Mallett, and keep all their picks, while the Patriots move up into position to get both the TE and DL in the top 33, and they'd be in great position to grab an interio OL at the top of round 3
  
• Texans get one year tryout with Mallett and can sell their fans on having the ability to draft a QB in a better year for them (2015), if needed

Ecstatic is the word that would come to mind for me as a Patriots fan, and it doesn't screw over the Texans in the deal.

Not quite. They MAY get a comp pick no higher than a third. . . . in 2016.

I believe in Mallett, and I have a feeling BB does too...just a hunch. I would like to see him stay, maybe even a one year extension this off-season, but if we were to move him......
