The 2014 Mock draft Thread.

Assumptions: Edelman resigned. Wilfork cut, Talib tagged and traded, Spikes gone.

FA Signings: Chandler TE, Kevin Williams DT,

1. Trade down for what becomes a thirds and a fourth and a future pick
2a. (from Talib tag and trade) Kyle Van Noy LB
2b. Kyle Fuller CB
3a. EJ Gaines CB
3b. Weston Richburg C
4a. Joel Bitonio T/G or Brandon Thomas G
4b. Mike Davis WR Texas
5a. (from Talib tag and trade) Ken Anunike DE Duke
6. Deandre Coleman DT Cal
6b. Ted Bolser TE Indiana
7. Kain Colter QB/WR Northwestern

I like it but I don't think there's a chance in hell Bitonio lasts that long, I might even be willing to pull the trigger on him in the 2nd.

I really enjoy reading the mock drafts. Walter just put out his new 4 round mock and was curious what everyone thought, I wasn't too crazy about this scenario, but it does give me a new name to look up and research. He went with the Patriots taking:

Round 1 - Amaro TE
Round 2- Swanson C
Round 3 - DaQuan Jones NT
Round 4- ****rell DB

I heard that Jones had a really bad Senior Bowl and thought it might push him down even further the draft board. Ross ****rell I don't know, so I'll have to do some research on him, but he's a name I haven't even heard on here.

Jones is OK but isn't exceptional at any one thing. He gets some push and pocket pressure without being particularly dynamic in that department and he's pretty stout without being someone who can consistently stand up to double teams. I don't really see what he offers over Shamar Stephen who could be had significantly later and who is just as good. I would much rather have Justin Ellis in that 3rd round who is more Wilfork-like.

****rell is interesting. He has decent size and is a press corner with good ball skills. He's a decent option as a backup outside corner.

A tip for you guys and anyone who wants to mention Cockrell without working too hard to avoid the AutoCensor: Just hit the Paint Pallet and color any part of the...heh...private parts...black. Thus:

Cockrell.

Easy & Quick. Hope that helps.

Interesting that Amaro is mocked to us ahead of ASJ. On defense: DT/DE Stephon Tuitt,
DEs Trent Murphy & Scott Crichton, DE/OLB Dee Ford and OLB Kyle Van Noy were still there.
Tough choice, but I might lean toward defense first.

I really don't know if I would take 2 offensive players with my first 2 picks like this mock,
but if one of the above defenders is drafted instead of one of the TEs, then I would have
little problem taking Swanson here, with the other possibilities being OCs Weston Richburg
& Marcus Martin, TE Troy Nicklas, DE/OLB Marcus Smith, LB Christian Jones & SS Deone
Bucannon.

If a TE has yet to be selected by #93, then this is where I would take one, either Richard
Rodgers or Arthur Lynch. On defense, either DE Kareem Martin or DE/OLB Trevor Reilly
would be my targets if a DE had yet to be selected.

Sign: DE Michael Johnson, WR(vertical) Nicks/Macklin
Resign: CB Talib, RB Blount (lets be honest Edelman wil be going after $)
Restructure: Wilfork,Mankins
Extend: McCourty, Gost

Let go: Connolly,Sopoaga,Adrian W,Kelly and more..

Here's my first crack at this:

1. DT- RaShede Hageman (6-6 318)
2. OC- Travis Swanson (6-5 310) (Mallet Trade)
2. SS- Deone Bucannon (6-1-216)
3. TE- Troy Nicklas (6-6 270)
4. TE- C.J.Fiedorowicz (6-6 262) (use a 6th to move up/down if TE's both there)
6. OG- Brandon Linger (6-6 316)
7. BPA- Player whose issues drop him here

Yes I can absolutely live with:

Dline- Jones-Wilfork-Hageman-Johnson
TE: Gronk, Nicklas, CJ

Now let me go get a napkin because i am drooling haha

I think we need to put the pick from the Mallet trade to bed since it isn't happening. Lombardi is out in Cleveland, all signs point to Houston signing Cassell and drafting a QB even if it isn't in the first round and Al Davis minus a weekend at Bernie's scenario isn't making a deal so that leaves us without a trade partner.

Ayup. #33 was a fun Notion, but never realistic.

Mind you: He still retains some Trade Value, but the question is "how much?"

Interesting 2 round mock from Jon Dove at Draftinsider:

Dove?s Two Round Mock

For the Pats:

29. Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh.
62. Aaron Lynch, DE, USF.

Love the Donald Pitt. That seems a bit rich for Lynch to me - especially as Trent Murphy doesn't go in the top 2 rounds in this mock - but Lynch certainly has tremendous athleticism and upside.

Some of Dove's picks are very iconoclastic: Jace Amaro goes #11 (6 picks earlier than Eric Ebron), Odell Beckham #18, Ju'Wuan James #19, Kyle Fuller #24, Gabe Jackson #25, Carl Bradford #27, Calvin Barnett #32. Blake Bortles doesn't go until the 2nd round (#36, to Oakland). But there are always head-scratches, and some of those guys could be risers.

Other picks of interest:

37. Marcus Smith, Louisville.
46. Billy Turner, OL, North Dakota St.
54. Brent Urban, DL, Virginia.

Sign: DE Michael Johnson, WR(vertical) Nicks/Macklin
Resign: CB Talib, RB Blount (lets be honest Edelman wil be going after $)
Restructure: Wilfork,Mankins
Extend: McCourty, Gost

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why is it so clear that Edelman will be going after $, but Talib and Blount will stay (and presumably take less)?

Links? I haven't seen anything tat says it's a probable event (Cassel left before BO'B took over the offense).

There's been wide speculation on it, google it. BOB was here while Cassel was if not the OC.

At the bottom of the second I think you go upside which is Lynch.

I certainly don't agree with some of his first rounders but I like out of the box drafts like this. I'll have to go back and see what it could be. Amaro at 11? Please let it be so!!!! :singing::singing::singing::singing::singing:

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why is it so clear that Edelman will be going after $, but Talib and Blount will stay (and presumably take less)?

1. Chances of Edelman taking a hometown discount are 0 to none. This is the only shot he has at a big contract and he'll be going to the highest bidder. IMO that's a given.

2. You are already paying Amendola and to pay Edelman you are using a lot of resources in similar players playing similar position. Not to mention Boyce projects the same. That's not the BB way.

3. The need for vertical threat more immediate. Dobson and ?

Counter you can make but i dont see happening

1. There will be around 50 something FA's at WR. This will drive $ down and Pats will have a chance at Edelman.

The rest is not a given. Again just my opinion.

I would be thrilled with Lynch. I think he's the second most talented rush end in the draft class. Late 2nd? God yes.

The best pass rushers are the ones who can go through you or around you. That's Aaron Lynch.

For a while the Pats were paying Jarvis Green a lot of money to mostly sit on the bench.

I would definitely like Hageman with our first pick. I think double dipping with Nicklas and Fiedorwicz in round 3 and 4 would be an ideal situation instead of picking a tight end in round 1. I prefer Pryor over Bucannon, but would not complain with that pick either. I would rather go Offensive line in round 4 rather than round 2, but I could definitely live with this draft!!!

I'm not sure about the signing of some of the free agents you mentioned, I think Johnson will probably cost an arm and a leg and I would rather us focus on our two top free agents... Talib and Edelman.

Ok time for a new one with some FA changes:

FA signings Cuts e.t.c

FA: Will Smith DE, Chandler TE, Sanders WR and Talib CB as the major starting position/impact signings.

Cut: Sopoaga, A Wilson. If he won't restructure begrudgingly... Wilfork. Big one is Gregory. Signing Will Smith, the money has to come from somewhere. This has a flow on effect into the draft.

Restructure: Wilfork, Mankins. I am assuming Kelly, Wilfork and Mayo are fit next year. Extend Ghost and McCourty.

I have Mallett traded because why not it's a mock draft. But if nothing further is mentioned about it then i am going to stop including this in my mocks.

1. - Calvin Pryor FS Louisville - I have cut gregory to make room for the extra Pass rush that Smith can provide but that required cap room. This could be a blessing in disguise however as if Pryor works out he could have a huge impact on this team and provide the physical presence over the middle we all have wanted since Rodney.

Was: Aaron Donald DT - Huge Binky... annoyed I had to remove him from my draft.

2a Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE - Was tossing up between him and Jace Amaro. With the FA addition of sanders providing a vet outside presence. I decided to make sure TB has all of the weapons he'll need for the rest of his days. Even if Gronk is late to come back ASJ offers a great all round TE. Amaro might be the better pass catcher tho so this really is a toss up.

Was: Travis Swanson C

2b Weston Richburg C Easy pick for me here. There is no doubt that the line underperformed last year and IMO that came from the middle. Swanson was the pick earlier. But i thnik Richburg offers good value here.

3. Marcus Smith DE/OLB - Adds athleticm. I don't want to be SOSing Andre Carter types again mid season without any injury to the DE position. I also believe he could displace fletcher in the LB core. Will definitely make it as a ster in the mean time (possible slight trade up needed here)

4. AJ McCaron QB - Replacement for the traded out Mallett

6.Jeff Janis WR - From Saginaw Valley i looked at his tape and hope to strike lightning in a bottle here. Small school. Was productive but it's yet to be seen if the athleticism is there.

6. Ricardo Allen CB - Hopefully to add some depth at already deep position

7. Taylor Hart DE - Outside Rush hopefully

Basically tried to shore up team needs in FA allowing to add talent at positions where they could have most effect during the draft.

Basically gave TB 3 new weapons to throw at. Hopefully stabilised the OL. If Richburg doesn't work out as planned we can always have Cannon at RG and Connelly to C in the mean time.

Added youth and playmaking to DL. You saw what Collins did to the playmaking of this D, Smith has the potential to have a similar effect. The Nickel especially becomes very exciting and dynamic.

Making the front 7:

Base 3-4

DL: Kelly - Wilfork - Jones
LB: Ninko/Smith - Mayo - Hightower - Collins
CB1 Talib
CB2 Dennard
FS McCourty
SS Pryor

4-3

DL: Ninko/Smith - Wilfork - Kelly- Jones
LB: Mayo - Hightower - Collins
CB1 Talib
CB2 Dennard
FS McCourty
SS Pryor

Nickel

DL: W Smith - Jones/Kelly - Cha Jones - Smith
LB: Mayo - Collins
CB1 Talib
CB2 Dennard
CB3 Arrington/Ryan
FS McCourty
SS Pryor

If all goes to plan, we lose Wendell but upgrade with Richburg. Making a line of:

OL: Solder-Mankins-Richburg-Cannon-Vollmer

I also addressed TB's weapons with TE and WR in FA but also Gronk insurance with ASJ with a talented good value WR. Letting Edelman go is tough but IMO necessary.

3 TE 1 Wr 1 RB: Gronk, ASJ, Chandler, Dobson, Ridley
2 TE 2 WR 1 RB: Sanders, Dobson, Gronk, Chandler and Ridley
1 TE 3 WR 1 RB: Sanders, Amendola, Dobson, Gronk and Ridley
4WR 1 RB: Sanders, Amendola, Boyce, Dobson and Vereen

Hopefully Armstead has something to add to the mix this year. If not they can put him on the dis-Crabled list.

I think Armstead's play will have a big say on some of the personnel decisions around Wilfork and Kelly.

If Armstead looks legit in pre season, I could see us letting Kelly go. I am a big Kelly fan and thought he was playing really well to begin the season. but it would them be a salary cap issue.
