and the ball is recovered by NE for a possible 60-yard scoop & score, only that the
incompetent zebra rules forward progress stopped. Absolutely atrocious.
Or was that not Hightower who made the original tackle?

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. A few thoughts:
- Hightower's side to side speed appears to be quite good. I can't help but wonder how he will do next year when he gets to within 5 yards of the LOS on most snaps.
- Our DL appeared to make Hightower's job a lot harder on most of those plays.
- One play where the DL did nice was Chandler Jones owning the LT on a run to the left.
- In terms of size, Hightower looks a lot like Willie McGinest out there.
- Teams didn't seem to run at his side a whole lot, which could be in part because he was playing the weak side often.
- On the first few plays against the Broncos, why is Chandler Jones wasting so much time with the TEs? Talk about being baited into taking yourself out of the play. We were in some weird formations there to begin with... essentially playing 2 DTs vs 4 OL no wonders we gave up runs up the gut.
EDIT: More thoughts:
- On the very next play you see Ninkovich get moved to RDE where he does a smart job of ignoring the LT. Man, if only Chandler Jones had Ninkovich's wits.
- Dane Fletcher hits holes embarassingly slow and without any explosiveness. Does a decent job of cleaning up a couple plays from the backside though.
- McCourty flying in from no where from time to time is one of the most underrated aspects of his game.
- Spikes goes way too high against Guards sometimes.
- I can't help but wonder how much better off our D would be with a big LDE (280+ pounds).
I know these were Hightower highlights, but Siliga shows very well on many of these clips.
I still want to see more to be certain he's really what we think.
Watching these clips makes me feel better about Spikes possibly walking.
I made a Siliga video, its on my youtube channel

Speed is decent. What worries me most is its not great in a league of qbs running 4.5 range and tes with near wr speed. What happens when russell or colin take off and run by him or outrun his angle for 50 yrds or worse. Even collinsworth called once when the ball carrier ran right by him saying he needs to show more closing burst than that in the nfl.But he has the talents. For Hightower an offseason conditioning and nutrition program to drop 15-18lbs of bodyfat and 5-8lbs of new muscle to offset the powerloss is to arrive at a leaner more explosive 255lbs is just what the defense ordered. Nutritionists are forgotten part of many players conditioning plan. A bodybuilders diet with lots of lean proteins,low/moderate complex carbs with greens would inject some more speed and burst in his playspeed. He would be a terror on the field arring at the play more explosively with a thump of an Impact. He does that and we have the best LB unit in the nfl. Hands down.
