Edelman and Amendola: we should cut ties with one of them

Please keep Edelmen, plus for his ST play. Guess we are stuk with 80....tooo bad hes not as good as old # 80 Troy Brown...Can see Amendola is a little shy of getting hit, and who knows, his last concussion could still be lingering, not sure how Football players come back so soon from concussion when in Hockey it takes months or more some times.

Bring back Blount too, Thompkins seems to bobble every pass that hits his hands, not sold on him. Keep Dobson.

Dobson and Thompkins had 69 receptions for 986 yards, essentially what Lloyd had in 2012.
Maybe Sanders would have done better, maybe not. In any case, these players did well and have a solid upside.

We still have an opportunity to pursue Sanders or some other WR if we wish them instead of Edelman.

Lloyd played 16 games. Dobson and Thompkins played 24. You're not making a 1:1 comparison here.

Can't keep playing musical chairs with WRs when brady probably only has 1 more chance at a deep run. Edelman has to stay

Agree on Edelman, disagree on the logic. Brady will play3-4 more years and he is on the 2nd youngest team in football and in a weak division, unless they really screw it up he should have another 3-4 opportunites to make a run at the lombardi.

As for Edelman, I really believe he wants to stay in NE for his next deal, it's up to them to step up to the plate and make him a good, serious, long term offer, and there is really no reason not to. 4/20/12 guaranteed would be a nice start but may not get it done. If it goes to 30 then i don't see them paying him, although I would be fine with an Amendola deal for him.

The Patriots really need to be serious and proactive this time, no screwing around to let the market set his value or they will likely lose him. I know if I were Indy i would pay him immediately., and if I were Edelman i wouldn't hesitate to go play with Luck if the monetary difference is significant, which knowing Irsay it would be.

Basically Edelman owns us right now. Amendola had a bad year, we had no weapons and after losing Wes and Woodhead, he knows he has leverage. We can't afford to lose him.

The question is how cap friendly can his contract be for us.

Correction made.

Edelmendola stays.

And hopefully so do Dobson and Thompkins. We need to have consistency at receiver, and I thought they did well for rookies in a Brady type offense where the devil is in the details.

Frankly the loss of Gronk is such a huge game changer. He usually commands a double-team, freeing up one or more of the other smaller receivers.

Not only gronk..but losing hernandez made gronk less effective. They need to draft another TE or get one in FA

If Gronk never got hurt (last year and this year) his per game production had him on a pace for 89 catches, 1300 yards and 9 TDs during a 16 game regular season.

I would agree that another TE (like AH) would have made this offense a bit more versatile

Ok, pretty much everyone knows my position on the Welker-Amendola situation, so you know this isn't coming from the pro-Bill side of this particular equation:

The one edge Amendola had over Welker is that he's a bit more flexible with regards to outside play. Welker can do it, but he's clearly much less comfortable on the outside, while it's not an issue for Amendola. The significance of that is that there's a greater interchangeability with Amendola/Edelman than there was with Welker/Edelman.

Amendola's not going anywhere in 2014, because his contract prevents that from happening unless the Patriots are willing to take a $6.8m cap hit in order to avoid paying Amendola $4.7m. Since the cap is not expected to rise much, yet again (Brilliant CBA work, NFLPA.... Dumbasses), that would be a significant impact on the Patriots cap space.

That being the case, keeping Edelman around allows both for a theoretical 2 player punch and built in redundancy for when one of them ends up on the shelf again. As long as Edelman's not asking for an unreasonable deal, it makes sense for the Patriots to bring him back and have both on the team.

Amendola's cap situation becomes palatable as far as cutting for cap space beginning with the 2015 season. If his body has him on the shelf again next year the Patriots can cut him loose before that 2015 season and at least gain $2m in cap space.

I just don’t think that Amendola runs well enough after the catch to ever fill the role of slot receiver at the level of Welker or Edelman, the guy averages under 10 yards a receptions for his career.

• Edelman has 1023 yards after the catch on 174 career receptions which is a 5.87 average.
• Amendola has 1164 yards after the catch on 250 career receptions which is a 4.65 average.

He also has far more difficulty creating space and getting open than Welker or Edelman ever have and a great indication of that is he is still in single digits for touchdowns in his career that highlights his inability to be effective in tight and congested areas.

I think Amendola might be able to give us something in the Deion Branch role at the Y-WR but I don’t think it will ever be more than 60-70 receptions for 600-800 receiving yards plus I would much rather develop the faster and more dynamic Boyce in that role.

He doesn’t really own us the free agent market is very strong for receivers this season.

4/20/12 makes sense as an offer. Amendola's contract plus $1 makes sense as an offer.

I never want to read the phrase "If Gronk never got hurt" again. That's like "If it weren't for the mental illness Miley Cyrus might be attractive." Gronk gets hurt. It's what he does.

I am not hating on Gronk, but at this point you have to plan on him getting hurt. I'm starting to think maybe rest him through 8 games so we have him at the end.

We gotta keep Edelman. It would really be stupid to let an emerging player like him go. It's only his 5th year ever playing WR so he can still get better. He's a faster version of Wes. He can play outside, which Wes could never do. We have to keep Edelman.

Dobson and Thomkins showed enough for me. Dobson especially looked like he was really getting it towards the end before he got hurt. No need to splurge for an outside WR IMO. Why they threw Slater in there for that deep pass when it turned out Dobson was more than capable is a mystery. They got stupid there. Dobson actually played well and ran some nice routes. That one deep pass Brady threw to him was a horrible pass. Brady needs to give him at least a chance to fight for the ball.

Edelman and Dobson as our starting WRs. Get a pass catching TE via free agency (Jimmy Graham might be available) or draft one. Amendola is going to be one expensive backup, but I guess you can't cut him.

Resign Talib. Get as many pass rushers as possible.

Honestly I think our outside receiver position is set....Dobson Is going to be a stud next year IMO

I could see him as a guy who gets 72 catches, maybe 900yards and 6td's on the outside.

I really think we need to keep Edelman though and Draft a pass catching Tight End to compliment Gronk.

our receiver position could be strong next year with

2nd year jumps for Dobson, boyce, thompkins. return of edelman/amendola/Gronk and drafting a move TE

We should cut ties with both it would be unfair to choose between the 2.

Nothing wrong with having faith but we had much of that that same faith before this season. I'd like to see them acquire a proven outside WR through F/A or via trade than simply hope Dobson gets better.

And there's nothing about Britt's character to suggest he's willing to give the necessary effort.

Same thing could have been said about randy moss, you all want "big playmaking wr" then your going to have to take some chances. Love Britt think he could do wonders with Brady and Belichick...plus he went to Rutgers which basically gurantees him a roster spot.

Comparing Kenny Britt to Randy Moss is like comparing Brandon Bolden to Adrian Peterson.

If I was a mod here, I would be temporarily revoking posting privileges for anyone who posts that Amendola should be cut. The cap consequences make it virtually impossible to do in 2014, and anyone who can't be bothered to look up the cap consequences of a cut before advocating for it doesn't have an opinion worth being heard.

In Moss' "horrible" last season in Oakland, he had 42 catches for 553 yards and 3 TDs.

Last year, Britt had 11 catches for 96 yards and 0 TDs.

Kenny Britt's career highs are 45 catches, 775 yards and 9 TDs.

Moss had 10 1000-yard seasons, 11 seasons with more than 45 catches and 9 seasons with 10 TDs or more.

That's not exactly comparing apples to apples.

I wouldn't revoke them i would simply move their posts to The Practice Squad or a Fantasy Forum, where they really belong, because they aren't discussing something within the realm of reality. Amendola is here for at least one more year and will likely either be asked to restructure or cut outright after next season. The people acting like it is actually an option have absolutely no conception of how the salary cap works and sound no different than the people calling WEEI yesterday saying they should franchise Talib and trade their number 1 to Tampa for Revis and then go get a Fitzgerald in free agency---no sh.t, that actually happened.

The threads about this topic are as sensible as trading their defense to detroit for Calvin Johnson is, they may understand fantasy football but have no idea how real football actually works. Hint, you don't get to trade Peterson for Doug Martin and larry Fitzgerald....................
