KT was doing fine before he got injured. People here are ridiculous sometimes.

I'll give this post a nomination for post of the month!

1) I agree that Collie should get more reps over an injured Thompkins.

2) We have two underneath receiver. Unless Amendola is our regular downfield receiver, we don't need to give lots of reps to another slot guy. The issue is how to manufacture a downfield threat.

3) As far as next year, we can discuss it in a few weeks. However, if Edelman is back, I don't think it likely that we will spend major resources on another "reasonable option" at WR.
It is premature to give up on the kids: Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, Harrison and Moe. Sure we could add a lat draft pick or UDFA. Sure we will add a free agent or two. We always do that. But I don't see the need to use significant resources on a "reasonable option" at this point. I have taken the opposite view. If Edelman is back, we may be set for years, bringing in the occasional free agent for competition. We have revamped the WR position; now it is time to us resources on offense elsewhere (OL, TE and RB will both need an infusion of money or draft choices).

2014
STARTERS: Edelman, Amendola, Dobson
BACKUPS: Thompkins, Boyce, Harrison, Moe (none would have many reps absent injuries; the #4 and #5 receivers never do)

I think the concern is that Thompkins isn't really acting like much of a downfield threat, nor is he contributing much of anything whatsoever.

While obviously true, Collie would jump to our WR3 if:

--Dobson/Thompkins aren't able to go

--You believe that we'll be attacking more underneath routes/YACs, etc

--The assumption that Thompkins isn't going to produce, or that Collie would be able to produce more effectively

For what it's worth, it's possible that we could be having the exact same conversation about his potential to replace Boyce also, since Boyce doesn't exactly scream of a veteran presence who can produce all that much.

Despite the hope that our young WRs can make the 2nd year leap, I believe that we should add another reasonable option whether Edelman stays or not.

As to Collie not getting enough attention... maybe so, but there's guys on offense who play a lot and get no attention here or elsewhere:

1) Michael Hoom
2) James Develin
3) Mike Mulligan

Hoom plays every damn snap and other two over half of snaps.

If Thompson is healthy, I see no reason having Collie replace him in his role as downfield receiving threat.

Collie is our emergency #5 WR. The only reason he is on the team is that Boyce is on IR.

I guess Collie could get more reps if we run some 4 receiver sets.

I think the question is do you bench "Thompson" who has become totally ineffective and promote the guy who seems to get it.
I think I would.

Another thing that I've noticed is that receivers tend to wear almost no pads below the waist. When I was in football there were HIP pads, thigh pads, knee pads, tailbone pad. Yes, I know, small town high school doesn't mean anything, that's not the point.

KT fell right on his hip. Looks like he had basically no padding.

Other times I see receivers who have no knee pads at all or at least that's what it looks like. THeir pants actually cut off ABOVE the knee.

I realize they do it to be a little faster, but the NFL should mandate that they wear pads.

I hear you but those pads wouldn't have prevented Thompkins injury. His injury was from being jarred on impact, not a bruise from impact I believe.
