2014 Draft Prospect Thread

we aren't going to have a chance at him but sammy watkins will be an elite receiver in the NFL.

More so at the defensive tackle position especially considering the age of the following players:

Tommy Kelly - 33 years old
Vince Wilfork - 32 years old (recovering from Achilles Tendon surgery)
Isaac Sopoaga - 32 years old

I wouldn't be taking Sopoaga into account really. He is gone next year IMO, he was traded to stop the run and Siliga has out played him and is younger and cheaper.

IMO Vince and Kelly are back.

Yeah, this has become a critical position of need. Not taking Kendell Reyes in the second two years--STer Tavon Wilson instead (What was Bill thinking?)--is looming large.

Wilfork might as well be a couple of years older. He was used too much the previous couple of seasons. The days of logging in 80+ % of the defensive snaps is yesterday's news.

Gotta get me an impact D lineman. Here's hoping one falls into our laps like Wilfork did. The CBS mockdrafts currently have us doing so with Notre Dame players Nix or Truitt.

I would like to think the New England Patriots coaching staff has more faith in Thompkins, Dobson, Boyce, Amendola going forward than you do...

...or I do, I fear.

Having written that, I still would not use one of our top-100 picks on yet another WR
who needs time to develop. Time is something of which this current team does not
have much remaining. I would rather see Bill sign a young vet WR during the early
free agency period (Golden Tate, Decker, Sanders, Cooper) as a hedge against the
possible busting of Dropson, Boyce & The Faller.

Again, I understand the talent and potential of your young receivers, but you need someone to make a catch in the red zone if Gronk is injured. Just one receiver who has size and leaping ability of some sort would be a nice touch.

I know we all look at stud DL Guys - But what would you Guys think if BB goes fully offense at draft day. Resigned Talib, Fletcher and DmC ( Know he aint FA ) and target lets say Michael Johnson.

Assuming he uses all seven picks, it's hard to add seven new players to just one side of the ball. I agree that there should be an element of focusing on offense however - particularly if they re-sign Talib.

I'm wondering the same thing. potentially much better class this year. Still, it is what it is.
We had no choice, by not fixing WR over the past few years we were kind of stuck once they decided Lloyd didn't work out.

But we only used a 2&4 on WR last year. Bill & Co. have had a year to evaluate Dobson, Boyce, KT and we all know they'll move on if necessary. Dobson is the only high draft choice and he looks like a keeper. I have high hopes for Boyce and KT had his moments but of those two we have a #4 pick TOTAL invested. There's no reason we couldn't use a #2 in this draft on a high upside WR and have that new guy with Dobson, Boyce, Amendola return with KT battling in out with Harrison and another draft pick (asssuming Edelman gets $$$ elsewhere).

No but getting a TE, WR, C and G on second day at the cost of 1 and 4. Could give us something like: ASJ + Swanson in the 2. and Jackson + Coleman in the 3.

We would still have 2-3 6 round picks and 2-3 7 rounders. Thats 4 impact players there WHO could fill needs and UPGRADE others. I know everything chance if we tradeing a QB.

Good news. Billy Turner will be at the combine. Looking forward to seeing him in drills.

And Florida DE/OLB Ronald Powell has declared.

Very interesting prospect.
Top recruit in his class and recruited to Florida by Meyer. Anyone else think Bill is interested?

I smell what you're cooking, but maybe a top-100 Move TE could fill the bill as a RZ target.

Any chance Nick Marshall declares for the draft? Maybe BB could do some interesting things with the kid in the 6th-7th round. 6'1, 210lb, crazy athlete, and he began as a CB at Georgia. Sounds like an interesting CB project to me.
