Coverage of Peyton's 51 & Media in general.

re: Coverage of Peyton's 51 & Media in general.

You describe it cleverly and deceivingly. Here's how your 1 for 2 actually went: Ahead 30-13 Denver got the ball back with 4:51 left. Play 1: short pass incomplete; Play 2: deep pass 27 yards to Decker draws PI call; Play 3: deep pass 25 yards TD to Thomas. So, your 1 for 2 was actually 3 consecutive pass attempts (one PI call) covering 52 yards for a TD. That's deep, that's often and that's running it up. Nice try.

Wouldn't be no running up the score if The waders defense could stop anyone!! Maybe the NFL should have a rule up by 24 at the half that team wins!

I hope SO BAD that he doesn't throw another TD this week

I'd love that but you'll have to wait 2 more weeks to see the next Manning face like the rest of us.

re: Coverage of Peyton's 51 & Media in general.

Maybe it's because I haven't gone searching for it, but I didn't think the media reaction was over the top Manning breaking the passing TD record. I thought there was more coverage back when Manning broke the 48 TD mark in '04 (?) then when Brady beat that. That may be part of it, that the record hasn't stood for very long, as compared to Marino's record.

I think it's definitely an impressive accomplishment for Manning. It doesn't win you or your team anything, but I'll admit that I was happy when Brady set the record.

As for the media's treatment of Manning's progress towards reaching and breaking the TD pass record, there's definitely a different standard. You can't throw for 50+ TDs without "running up the score" on some teams. But we never heard that applied to Manning.

Someone quoted Easterbrook earlier where he says that people just like John Fox better, so they give him the benefit of the doubt. The thing about GE's quote is that he claims Belichick "snarls at the public." Belichick doesn't buddy up with the media and tell them folksy stories or give them restaurant tips, but I don't equate the media with the public. Easterbrook can speak for himself and his fellow media members, but I wouldn't count him as a voice of the fans.

Easterbunnybrook SHOULD be speaking through a sign interpreter after his jaws are wired shut for getting smashed in his big mouth. This total POS crudbag ran his friggin' mouth an entire year besmirching you,me, all our friends and neighbors, our sports teams, Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft. He's a gutless twerp...GUTLESS. He won't come anywhere near New England now because he KNOWS what a lying ,weasely little turd he's been and continues to be.

Exactly!! Belichick snarls at the mediots not the public. And this notion many mediots float that they somehow represent us fans is laughable. Most mediots snarl at us fans and think we're far beneath them.
Anyone who has seen Bill Belichick sitting courtside at a Celts game or in the stands at a Bruin game waving a B's flag can't seem to find that snarl.

Unfortunately, I'm thinking he throws at least four.

re: Coverage of Peyton's 51 & Media in general.

WHO THE HELL CARES!!!!! Sports records have become one of the BIGGEST jokes ever. Winners will ALWAYS be remembered/respected.

Spot on! Can't think of even one Joe Montana record yet Joe Cool was one of the greatest QB's I've ever seen.
Montana was a winner, a champion and clutch. I feel the same way about Tom Brady.
NOBODY speaks about Peyton Manning in those terms. NOBODY!!!

Note to Ian: If a Broncos fan "Likes" my post, can I remove the like?

no givesies-backsies!

re: Coverage of Peyton's 51 & Media in general.

Btw, how ironic that Manning's record tying TD was NOT a catch. Glad the NFL acknowledges what ANYONE who saw the replay already knew, Decker was bobbling the ball as he stepped out of the end zone. Was shocked the ref let the call stand and it really upset the Texans at the time because it was obviously not a catch. In fact I turned to my brother who was watching the game with me and asked what the point of these replay challenges is if the refs refuse to do the right thing??
It's so nice of the NFL to acknowledge the call was blown but it is very troubling when they refuse to act on the video evidence they have. It was not a inconclusive replay, Decker was clearly not in control of the ball when he stepped out of bounds. Scary when the refs can't do the right when it's right in front of them.

NFL admits Peyton Manning TD pass should've been disallowed, Houston Texans coach says - ESPN Boston

lots of respect for Peyton breaking the record with a game to go is pretty amazing IMO but his not getting as much coverage as he should be because in this era of football Brees. Brady, Rodgers luck and Matthews are all one WR away from breaking this record next year

Matthews? Who?

53 TDs for Manning. Broncos had the highest scoring offense in the history of the league. Not a peep about them running it up on anyone, though.
