Gronky Make Joke?

Whew, the Incognito outrage was starting to die down a little and I was getting worried there wouldn't be another outrage anytime soon. Who would have thought another outrage would happen again so soon??

With that said, I'm going to go back to reading my newspaper. The front page stories are very informative. These stories are:
- Elitist man wearing an expensive suit doesn't give his spare change to a homeless person. Man is subsequently audited by the IRS
- 5' 105 pound sixteen year old girl is told by sexist man she will not be a Defensive Tackle in the NFL. Man's house is picketed by women's groups.
- Bigoted male teacher is fired for telling his Japanese-American student that she has performed excellent on his math exams.
- The California legislature today passed a binding legal resolution making it illegal to use the term illegal immigration in response to the, now illegal, repeated use of the words "illegal immigration" by the government's illegal immigration enforcement department.
- There's a pre-thanksgiving sale at Macy's!

Speaking of which, is there ever going to be a new season for Curb?

The current word from Larry David himself is that he chose to do the HBO movie "Clear History" that aired this past summer instead of making another season. I think he claimed that his past 2 years have pretty much been focused on that. Check it out if you haven't already. It's typical LD and was rather enjoyable to watch.

He claims that things are still up in the air with future seasons, and he doesn't like to make commitments in regards to the show.

It doesn't sound like he knows any more than we do at the moment, but if there does end up being a new season it won't be for quite some time since he hasn't even decided on it--let alone start the production, filming, etc. I'm thinking we'd be looking at a year or more even if they started immediately.

On the douchey scale from zero to Mike Vrabel, this only registers about a 2.5.

That's pretty much where I stand too. I have little tolerance whatsoever for any kind of racial slurs, although there are times when minor racial humor can be acceptable for everyone such as stand-up comedy etc. I kind of get the feeling that is what was intended here due to the venue, etc. I don't think it was meant to be as bad as it came off.

That said, even though Gronk has appeared to grow up a bit (to me), there are still glimpses like this where we pretty much have to accept that he'll always be a carefree meathead/fratboy in many aspects. No matter how you look at it, it was still wrong of him to say something like that, even if it was considered "minor."

Just my opinion. For all I know some of our Asian friends on the forum may have been offended as hell, and I could certainly see their point too. I think it was wrong, but also overblown due to it being Rob Gronkowski.

"Racist" and "offended" are the two most over used words in our society today. You can't make even the smallest of a slip up, even hanging out in a bar, when it comes to race otherwise you get tagged as a racist because people want to be offended. Calling someone a racist is often a bailout word. A cheap attempt to attack someone we don't like by making false claims as a way to scare or ruin them. We are a society of people who sit around waiting for someone to make a mistake so we can act offended and try to destroy that person. The people who are outraged, and the media, generally take these things out of context and/or misrepresent what the persons intention was behind the comment, and then attack them for it. Was Gronk actually being disrespectful to this guy, or was he having fun with him? Sometimes guys give each other **** while hanging out at a bar *gasp* but that doesn't mean they don't respect each other or are racist, it's just some people having a good time. This another phony uproar by people who CHOOSE to be offended, then cry about it.

How was Mike Vrabel "douchey"? That is an odd choice of words. Please explain because I don't see how it applies. If you're calling him "douchey" because he scored a touchdown against your team in the Super Bowl, that's beyond childish.

I think he's saying that Mike Vrabel is the polar opposite to "douchey" as in "On the douchey scale from zero to Mike Vrabel," where "zero" is very douchey and "Mike Vrabel" is completely un-douchey. At least that's how I read it.

That is NOT how it was written....read the quote again...."on the douchy scale"...."from 0 to Mike Vrabel"...........seems clearly a hit at Vrabes

Why would "0" be "very douchy"?

That's what I think he means, but my choice for "completely un-douchey" would be Bruschi. That man is pretty much as flawless as they come; the ultimate family man.

I'm mostly referring to his touchdown celebrations toward the latter end of his career, which usually involved pretending to hand the ball to a kid in the stands, only to jerk it away.

I mean, who does that?

I agree though about Bruschi being a stand up dude. Just always though Vrabel was the ultimate douche for picking on kids.

You're just a jealous idiot

If Vrabel is considered an ultimate douche, then what does that make your QB?

What I'd really like to know is...did Gronk get his fried rice or not?!

So the media looks pretty foolish now:

The Blitz with Jeff Howe & Karen Guregian | Boston Herald

[T]here has since been more context provided to the Herald about the story. The partygoer, Joe, was said to have been talking to Gronkowski earlier during the event. Gronkowski told Joe he was going to grab the microphone and call him onto the dance floor, and Joe laughed it off, saying he can't dance but he can cook fried rice. Essentially, Gronkowski repeated that comment over the mic.

So basically, Joe made the joke first about himself, and Gronkowski followed it up later on, to the delight of Joe. Something tells me we're not going to hear the same level of uproar about Joe being racist against his people.

I saw every down Vrabel ever played for the Patriots and this is the first I've ever heard of such a thing. I believe you are confusing him with someone else. Vrabel was a linebacker and scored maybe three or four touchdowns his whole career.

Gronk was never the sharpest tool in the shed and he's had other bonehead things in the past. This thing was probably more stupid/ignorant than malicious, but at the same time the "My friend is [X minority]" or "My [minority] friend said he didn't care" excuse is one of the absolute worst to use.

I'm sure if people asked around, just like with Polish/ Irish/ Italian/ Jewish/ jokes, you'll find people who don't care and also some who would take it a little more offensively. It isn't really up to 3rd parties to decide (especially from a majority ethnic group) but rather whether people in that group found it offensive or not. I know African American friends who roll their eyes when a white person decides whether something should or should not be offensive to black people.

So now it is coming out that the guy he was joking around with was the first to reference fried rice "I can't dance but I can cook fired rice"

11 career touchdowns

I think he did it once against Cinnci, but it wasn't kids. He stuck the ball out and asked if they were Buckeye fans.

11 career touchdowns

Much more than I would've guessed. But this idea of him teasing kids with his touchdown celebration seems totally bogus.
