Panthers fans concerned about big 4 on defense

That is surprising, I actually did not think Carter was playing that well. How many pressures does he have?

Seven in two games. Buchanan has eight all year.

That’s good stuff considering the guy is probably still playing himself into football shape. They ran attacking 3-4 against the Steelers that will be interesting to watch as the season goes.

LOLB – Rob Ninkovich
LDT – Joe Vellano
NT – Chris Jones
RDE – Andre Carter
ROLB – Chandler Jones
SILB – Brandon Spikes
WILB – Donta Hightower

This front likely is not ideal in terms of coverage but man I bet they can get after the QB.

You watched all the games and can isolate exactly where there grades are wrong right? No purpose in saying something sucks unless you can back it up because otherwise it's a completely meaningless statement. Can't take people seriously when their argument is "it sucks".

I don't have to watch all the games to know they suck. I've watched enough games to know that they screw things up all the time. When PFF first came out, I was happy. More stats is generally a good thing, to my way of thinking. I love to look at stats for analysis. Unfortunately, PFF repeatedly showed that it was crap. It's too bad, because we could use a site like that, if it wasn't so badly done.

But that's the point, we're not claiming to be experts or charging for the knowledge. Fact is, enough people watching the games saw Mayo as the best rookie defensive player in the league, let alone rookie Linebacker.

Same for Brady's unanimous MVP.

So many people can't be wrong.

PFF sucks. You don't need a 300 page report to see why. Use your eyes, watch the players then read their grades. You will genuinely wonder if you have watched the same game sometimes.

They don't even know how to evaluate plays. They credit the wrong people with pressures and sacks, and they blame the wrong people for giving them up, for example, and that's just on the ones that are obvious. I can get that level of accuracy reading Patsfans.com gamethreads.

Enough about PFF already. :bricks:

I live in NC, seems some people here have not seen much of Carolina this year. Their defense will be very tough on us, they have the type of 4-3 defense that we tend to have a lot of trouble with. Brady is going to get knocked around a lot.

Our defense needs to limit the Panthers to under 20, because I don't see us putting up another 55 burger anytime soon.

Just got tickets to the game today! Can't freaking wait! Haven't been to a game since I went to see them play the Jests on a Monday night game, where I ended up in ecstasy with our 45-3 win....:singing: (one of the greatest experiences of my life).

Hoping I will bring some luck to our boys.

I am not goign to say Newton is soft and can be rattled when he is hit, but he also cannot complete a pass over 20 yards. Hence why his completion percentage is so high. He never throws anything but short and short intermediate passes.

He is 7 for 33 on passes over 21 yards this season (21.2%). In fact, his completion percentage spirals from under 10 yards to 11-20 yards from the mid 70s in both behind the line of scrimmage and 1-10 yards to 58.8% from 11-20 yards.

It's strange you bring those figures up because they're pretty similar to Tom Brady's 2013 season as well.

Brady's completion is 80% behind LOS and 65% from 1-10, and drops to 46% from 11-20 yards.

Brady is 10 for 44 on passes over 21 yards this season (22.7%).

And while Cam hasn't hit the deep ball this season, he has proven he can in the past. As a rookie, he hit 29 for 80 (36%), and in 2012, he was 24 for 58 (41.3%).

For some perspective, Peyton Manning's incredible 2013 season has him at 14 for 38 (36%). Brady's 2007 season was 28 for 69 (40.5%).

So Cam Newton's 2013 season hasn't been great, but he's proven he can do it, and at a very respectable rate. I'd put this more on a seriously diminished Steve Smith and a bunch of JAGs at receiver.

And as for all the PFF hate, they make mistakes. So does BB. So does everyone on this board. But ESPN found pretty similar results on Newton under pressure last season:

I'm just curious how many Panthers games people have seen this season. I only caught bits of the 49ers game and he didn't seem panicky at all so I'm wondering what those opinions are based on.

Yes his completion rating goes down, but several passes were dropped beyond 21 yards though.

I'm not deluding myself about what a challenge the OL will have this week

But I'd like to think, given the fact that Brady has a very different style than Kaepernick , that the OL will have better luck than the San Fran OL.

Brady will likely have numerous short pass options in his available play calling and unlike Kaepernick he won't cut and run, but calmly and quickly step up in the pocket, make a decision and get rid of the ball.

With Brady they really don't need to hold the pocket all day - and can even let it collapse - as long as they just give Brady the short amount of time he needs.

I think the OL could really rise to the occasion.
