2014 Draft Prospect Thread

If only he was better at running deep an to man with a receiver. His one weakness in my eye (and if only we hadn't re-signed Kyle Arrington because Fuller would be perfect for that role). Still, he's probably my favourite prospect so far this year.

For all I'm concerned, all that means is that he needs help over the top. If there is a deep safety to his side of the field, he covers like nobody's business. If not, he's a little more average.

Could Fuller be a candidate to move to Safety? He's got decent enough size, is intelligent, instinctive and a good tackler. Sounds a little like Devin McCourty, although their style of play is a bit different. I'm not a huge fan of spending another high pick on a safety, but if we can get a guy that can cover 2 positions and play special teams I think that would certainly be decent value. I wouldn't mind having a thumper at the back but I wouldn't complain having another intelligent, ballhawk type safety.

The guy is a true lockdown corner on routes less than 20 yards deep. He could move to safety, but it's not necessary, since his excellence against shorter routes more than overcomes any difficulty he has against deep routes.

The trouble is that from a Patriots perspective, we are looking for a possible Talib replacement and that means a CB that can live on an island and as much as I love Fuller, I'm not sure he's good enough on an island to warrant a high pick.

So I think this interesting. When doing a bit of research, this line on Vernon Davis' wikipedia page stood out for me:

He finished his college career with 1371 yards on 83 receptions for 16.5 yards per catch, the best average of any first round tight end ever and more yards than other previous high first round tight ends such as Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey, Kyle Brady and Kellen Winslow II.

Eric Ebron's career average is 16.0.

Now Ebron's probably not going to be running a 4.38 40 like Davis , but they are similar. Just as a comparison, Jace Amaro who's having a standout year this year is only averaging 13 ypc and he pretty much plays as a WR.

Adjust your expectations accordingly.

ERic Ebron would be a really good replacement for the Hernandez.

What about Ryan Shazier? I think he's the fastest, hardest hitting linebacker I've ever seen. 6'2" 230, BB would find a spot for him.

Look at youtube highlights (yes I know they're highlights) from his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Surprised Thomas is a 2nd rounder. I guess there isn't much hope of getting him to play TE then.

I'm fine with a lb corps of; Mayo, Hightower and Collins. We have decent depth in Fletch and Beaharnais. Shazier the hardest hitting linebacker you've ever seen? Just wow.

I love Shazier. But after the last two years, I don't think there's any way BB is drafting a LB that weighs less than 240lb. I think the only one ever was Bo Ruud (234 lbs) and he was a sixth rounder.

I would guess you've never seen him play. Commenting on someone's comment without having any knowledge of it. Just wow.

Shazier is great but i hope collins can become a starter and with the nickel and dime packages increasing i dont see a need for another LB early.
I wouldnt mind Perryman later though..

1. Ebron would be a good Gronk replacement but I prefer Amaro in the 1st
2. I don't know if Shazier is the hardest hitting LB i've ever seenbut I would definitely draft him, the question is where? I've seen him from late first to fifth round. He is a solid LB that has starter potential, he is a tackling machine and is solid in coverage, also can force turnovers, I freakin' love him. IMO he was the nation's best LB last year, far better than The Lying Hawaiian of Notre Dame, he is a little undersized but he's dominated against some NFL-type talent. Conclusively, I'd love to see him in a Foxborough

1. Ebron doesn't have nearly the size of Gronk. I don't think he's all that similar.

2. Shazier is more than a little undersized, especially in relation to the Patriots. Still love him though.

3. CJ Moseley is far and away the best LB in college football (not including Barr who is a rush LB).

If you want a Keith Bullock/Gary Brackett type, Chris Borland is the player for you.

Man, I want him anyway.

faster than Mingo? (or were you counting Mingo as a DE)

Mingo ran a 4.53. Shazier is claiming a 4.35

I'm sure that's not a completely accurate time otherwise I'd plug him in at CB , but even so, I think it certainy possible that he could be faster than Mingo. Jamie Collins was only 0.06 slower than Mingo fwiw.

As things are, he's a definite 2nd Rounder, a probable Top 40, and very possibly a 1st Rounder.

Anyone that has'm going in the 5th.... :bricks:

Hope that helps, Brother Shore.

Agreed. Though I struggle to see why he'd go significantly higher than Lavonte David...unless he actually does run a 4.35. Then all bets are off.

Firgot 3, Logan Thomas sucks at QB, doubt he will ever make the NFL as a regular at any position

Ayup. That's my YardStick, as well...

Of course the Difference between where a Prospect should go and where he does go, as you know, can be big.
