Report: Jonathan Martin "gone AWOL" from Dolphins | ProFootballTalk

Dolphins starting right tackle Jonathan Martin has walked out on the team.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that Martin has “gone AWOL from the team the last couple days.”

Glazer said Martin had an incident in the team cafeteria this week in which teammates jokingly said they wouldn’t sit with him, and that Martin’s reaction to the joke was that he “flipped out, smashed a food tray on the ground, took off, and they haven’t seen him since.”

Bullying in the NFL. Lol

Jonathan Martin left Dolphins' facility on Monday, immediately sought outside assistance after what a teammate called "emotional breakdown."

Jonathan Martin is now spending time with family. Team and players are mostly out of touch with his situation. My thoughts are with him.

Is he on his period?

Joking aside, I really hope he gets help if he needs it.

He was getting consistently bulldozed by opposing DE's and then lost his job. He may have just snapped, with the jabbing pushing him over the edge.

No No No!!! You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want him on that line, you need him on that line. We use words like weak link, patsy, push over. We use these words as the backbone of a rush spent defending our team. You use them as a punch to his stomach. The Pats have neither the time nor the inclination to explain themselves to fans who watch and cheer under the blanket of the very defense that they provide, and then questions the manner in which they provide it.We would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, we suggest you put on some pads, and play a position. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think Martin is entitled to.

Lots of stress to perform at a high level in this league, also remember 1 in 5 folks have some form of mental health issues...could be contributors.Just sayin'.

Take all their future touchdowns away.

No seriously, as has been said, he probably has a issue. Hope he gets help.

The guy is MASSIVE. I was looking at him through binoculars Sunday.

No real sympathy for the LOLphins, but tons of sympathy for the guy.

I gotta say that Stephen Ross has really built himself a Dream Team down there. The Daniel Snyder of South Beach has compiled himself an overpriced team of underachievers, malcontents, and head cases. And that is just Mike Wallace.

heh heh....liquid through nose...yes..just happened...

The Dolphins implosion continues.

All he wanted was love! And friends.

I'm sure Sports Illustrated saw that one coming. There is they're fall back.

Seriously though, I wish the best for Martin and his family.

All the best to him in getting the help he needs. Pro athletes aren't immune to mental health issues and operate under a lot of stress. I hope he is able to get well and move on.

I hope for his sake this is only a meltdown on a Vince Young level or so, rather than like that Oakland center who disappeared before the Super Bowl.

That's what it sounds like, but of course we don't really know about substance abuse, mental illness, whatever.

Kyle Brady did the same thing in 2007. He actually walked away from the team for at least a few days.

From PFT:

According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, Martin’s exit came after “persistent bullying and teasing” from some of his teammates.

Per Marvez, Martin has taken a personal leave of absence to spend time with his family.

The situation came to a head this week, but Martin previously had “tried dealing with a slew of indignities that crossed into personal and family insults.” Marvez writes that the Dolphins knew that “cruel actions” of some teammates “went well beyond the customary hazing.”

If this is true then it went too far, and he should have broken the jaw of anyone who was badmouthing his family and such. Just my opinion.

Team captains worth their salt should have stepped in and stopped this destructive behavior. Prank a guy fine, but not time after time focused on one guy.
