It's good to have a guy like Forston be able to come in though, considering that most here had him on the 53 man roster throughout the summer anyway.
He may have a better knowledge for the immediate sense to be able to step in tomorrow and contribute better. Or he may just be more talented. Either way, we'll have to trust Belichick's decision, but I'd still like to see one more DT brought in who is worth a damn.

I think the decision to promote Forston and telling him the good news actually happened on Thursday because he tweeted "Thank You God For Giving Me Another Chance".. I think Neblett was never going to play but more for getting a call if another injury popped up and to feel what he can or cannot do.
Neblett was only in Foxboro for a tryout signing - which he was thoroughly unimpressive in, obviously. Practice squad guys get promoted usually on Saturdays, so that's likely the reason for the delay.

I find Fortson to be one of the most intriguing players we have in house, very talented kid who if he could put together could be a high caliber NFL player in my opinion. I was very disappointed to see him not make the 53 man roster out of camp but I'm glad to see him have another opportunity.

none of what you say makes sense to me. Not saying you are wrong; maybe I just dont understand.
since when do you need to SIGN a player to give him a tryout, physical or anything. ok if you want him to actually PRACTICE with the team and see if he fits in with the other players (but that isnt what i understand you meant by "tryout singing").
And waiting til Sat to promote a guy on PS seems kind of silly if you know you are going to do it.
It leaves the door open for another team to come in and make an offer and pay him more than you would (either drive your price up or steal the guy off your PS). You would think the guy would be smart enough to tell you if someone else made him an offer; but even so.. why play that game
and I have never heard before that PS promotions "ALWAYS" happened on Sats (certainly not since invention of Thur night and late-season Sat football games).
again not saying you are wrong --- just seems funny reasoning.

Teams sign guys only to cut them during the same signing week. Why exactly do they do this? Who knows. I'm sure they have their reasons. Just because you sign a guy that doesn't mean their probation period is over. They still have to impress to keep their spot on the team. Neblett clearly didn't impress enough to last longer than a few days. Meaning he was still in his tryout phase. He didn't pass, so adios.
As for your portion about the practice squad, I never said teams always sign guys on Saturdays, I said usually. Saturday is more or less a euphemism for the day before gameday. The majority of the Patriots moving players from the practice squad to the active roster moves have happened the day before gameday so far this season (after week 1). Forston was promoted on, you guessed it, the day before the game. Just like Kanorris Davis and JAG Davis were last week.
I'm sure you could find lots of examples of teams promoting guys before the day before gameday, but so far it seems Patriots tend to do just that.
