RT @Trags: Source tells me: ‘Serious concern’ over Tom Gill surgery on Rob Gronkowski http://ow.ly/pI0yN
-The James Andrews news broke earlier today.
Yeah, sure--if you're a bear who has been hibernating for the past 3-4 days. Then the news broke "earlier today."
For what it's worth, the news about Dr.James Andrews broke after the MNF game, and was reported by NBC sports as early as Tuesday morning:
ok I have not been around a TV or this site all day did some bad news come out about Gronk ?
eh mental error, meant to say earlier this week.
The main concern is that team doctor (Tom Gill) hasn't handled the situation properly, and that Gronk and his family aren't willing to take any risks and are somewhat leery at the moment; hence their wanting to have Dr.James Andrews confirm that he is okay.
Of course we've been hearing about the need for Andrews to "clear" him since the beginning of the week, and it's now Friday morning--so no one really knows what is going on behind the scenes.
It may not be "bad news" in the sense that it's something new--but it may be bad news if there's this much concern about a possible re-injury. That question won't be answered until he goes out on the field for a prolonged period of time and is fine, which may not be for awhile.
In other news, we will probably still be holding our breaths every time he gets tackled for the rest of the year.
wow if there is that much concern about he's arm im guessing he has not been doing a whole lot of weight lifting so he may not be in the best shape at lest not the Gronk we know,
at this point I don't care if he dose not come back until week 13 as long as he gets it right and is at 100 come playoff time
JMC00 could very well be correct that this has been known for awhile, and that we're just hearing about it.
The problem or concern is that we just don't know due to having limited information, but if there was this much concern---it doesn't come off as really sounding extremely positive in my opinion. Then again, he could come out and be fine. Like I said, we will all still be holding our breaths for the rest of the season though, and I don't think that was totally expected (unless you're a worry wart, which I am starting to become with the situation).
What do you mean by this may have been known? I'm sure Gronk, the team and everyone associated with both parties have known this since day one. It does explain why he hasn't been playing, it just sounds like Dr Andrews thinks that Gronk needed the time for his bones to heal properly in order to endure the rigors of the NFL. The good news, I think is that once he's cleared to play he should be healed properly.

When I say "this may have been known" I am referring to the fact that there was this much concern than anything else, which there are obvious conflicting reports to.
We've heard so many different stories from timelines etc, we have no idea what is true and what isn't--so let's not act like everyone has been on the same page. That has hardly seemed as though it's been the case. There have been many reports stating that the team felt that he'd be ready after week 2 or 3.
I'm not sure if you read the article or not, but if there was a cyst that increased the rate of infection to the plate, that also means that it compromised the area's ability to heal. Only time will tell as to how much that increases the odds of re-injury if the bone and area has been significantly weakened.
The Pats need to fire that horseshoe hairline idiot. Gill was fired from the Red Sox for a reason. I can't believe the Pats would bring him in here.
"multiple sources with direct knowledge of the surgery on that arm" say the arm would have healed properly after it was broken last November with no surgery necessary, but the Patriots and Gronkowski, trying to speed his return for the playoffs late last season, decided to have surgery to insert a pin in the forearm. That surgery was performed by Patriots doctor Thomas Gill.
