Sounds like Brady's as tired of this saga as we are:

Albert Breer ?@AlbertBreer 3m
Brady on Gronk impact: "I feel like I've talked about it a lot the last five weeks. ... If he's there, he's there. If he's not, he's not."

Great news!

This will give the Extra Point Special Team squad a needed boost!

Hope it isnt true.

Really nothing new in that piece. It's almost like the writer just did a little deduction with the information and threw in that he had a source

-Broken bones can heal on their own.
-Which would have meant no surgery, which would've meant no other break, which would've meant no infection
-There have been a lot of questions and concerns about Gill.
-Obviously Gronk has been holding off on returning until it is determined he is fully healthy and recovered or he would have been back already.
-The James Andrews news broke earlier today.

Seriously this is basically a summary of the whole Gronk thing with the writer throwing in the "sources tell WEEI" like it is some breaking news.

-The James Andrews news broke earlier today.

Yeah, sure--if you're a bear who has been hibernating for the past 3-4 days. Then the news broke "earlier today."

For what it's worth, the news about Dr.James Andrews broke after the MNF game, and was reported by NBC sports as early as Tuesday morning:

Gronkowski expects to be cleared to play Sunday | ProFootballTalk

It hardly matters though, as your assessment of the report may be correct... Then again, it may not. We probably won't know until he plays and doesn't re-injure the arm. That may take awhile.

One concern I'd have is that it's now early Fri morning and so far we've been waiting all week to hear whether or not Andrews has cleared him or not. For this report to come out right now may not point to great news, unless it's some kind of posturing or the media just doesn't know yet.

ok I have not been around a TV or this site all day did some bad news come out about Gronk ?

eh mental error, meant to say earlier this week.

The main concern is that team doctor (Tom Gill) hasn't handled the situation properly, and that Gronk and his family aren't willing to take any risks and are somewhat leery at the moment; hence their wanting to have Dr.James Andrews confirm that he is okay.

Of course we've been hearing about the need for Andrews to "clear" him since the beginning of the week, and it's now Friday morning--so no one really knows what is going on behind the scenes.

It may not be "bad news" in the sense that it's something new--but it may be bad news if there's this much concern about a possible re-injury. That question won't be answered until he goes out on the field for a prolonged period of time and is fine, which may not be for awhile.

In other news, we will probably still be holding our breaths every time he gets tackled for the rest of the year.

I meant that to be somewhat tongue in cheek, so apologies if it came off as douchey. I should have included a smiley, that's my bad.

The whole damn situation is becoming frustrating, but you may be right that this has been known. No one can confirm anything, so we're left to guess at every step of the situation.

I do know that I'm going to start to hold off my optimism due to something obviously going on behind the scenes that reeks of concern.

wow if there is that much concern about he's arm im guessing he has not been doing a whole lot of weight lifting so he may not be in the best shape at lest not the Gronk we know,

at this point I don't care if he dose not come back until week 13 as long as he gets it right and is at 100 come playoff time

JMC00 could very well be correct that this level of concern has been known for awhile, and that we're just hearing about it.

The problem or worry is that we just don't know due to having limited information, but if there was this much concern---it doesn't come off as really sounding extremely positive in my opinion. Then again, he could come out and be fine. Like I said, we will all still be holding our breaths for the rest of the season though, and I don't think that was totally expected (unless you're a worry wart, which I am starting to become with the situation).

What do you mean by this may have been known? I'm sure Gronk, the team and everyone associated with both parties have known this since day one. It does explain why he hasn't been playing, it just sounds like Dr Andrews thinks that Gronk needed the time for his bones to heal properly in order to endure the rigors of the NFL. The good news, I think is that once he's cleared to play he should be healed properly.

When I say "this may have been known" I am referring to the fact that there was this much concern than anything else, which there are obvious conflicting reports to.

We've heard so many different stories from timelines etc, we have no idea what is true and what isn't--so let's not act like everyone has been on the same page. That has hardly seemed as though it's been the case. There have been many reports stating that the team felt that he'd be ready after week 2 or 3.

I'm not sure if you read the article or not, but if there was a cyst that increased the rate of infection to the plate, that also means that it compromised the area's ability to heal. Only time will tell as to how much that increases the odds of re-injury if the bone and area has been significantly weakened.

From what had been reported, I was under the impression that Andrews was not heavily involved throughout the process, and was simply consulted in the spring when the infection occurred. Are you sure that he was there throughout the entire process?

From the sounds of it to me, Dr.Gill was the main doctor who took care of everything the entire time, and they are now going back to Dr.Andrews for his opinion on whether or not it has fully and sufficiently healed. It also sounds like they weren't extremely thrilled with the team physician and his handling of the situation--or at least common sense would point to that. Most people don't go outside and get different opinions when they are entirely happy with what has occurred, and are on a good track towards healing. That usually happens when there are unknown aspects in a complex situation and/or they are unsatisfied with their current treatment.

I see what you're saying. I'd be surprised if the team didn't know what was going on all this time, it's just been us and the mediots speculating that have been in the dark. I think Andrews was probably brought in at the behest of the Gronk group before they felt comfortable letting him play, when that was, who knows? Maybe he was consulted before the season started.

The Pats need to fire that horseshoe hairline idiot. Gill was fired from the Red Sox for a reason. I can't believe the Pats would bring him in here.

Dr Gill has been with the Patriots way before he was fired by the Red Sox.

I think its time Gronk gets back on the field. All along we've heard conflicting reports that week 6 was the date the Gronkowski "brand" was looking to come back. Well its week 6. There should be no excuses now. There was reports weeks ago that the forearm, not the back was the worry. This is nothing new. Getting Dr Andrews in is just the Gronkowski "brand" being overly cautious. Which is their rite to be. They are looking out for the money maker of the group, but at the end Gronk gets payed to play football. Its time.

Latest report says they took some risk to get him back for the playoffs and are paying the price now.

"multiple sources with direct knowledge of the surgery on that arm" say the arm would have healed properly after it was broken last November with no surgery necessary, but the Patriots and Gronkowski, trying to speed his return for the playoffs late last season, decided to have surgery to insert a pin in the forearm. That surgery was performed by Patriots doctor Thomas Gill.

Hope he does get officially cleared by Andrews to play...but if there are any question marks in that bone....they need to hold him out until it completely heals.

Pats fans need to really be realistic in their expectations though. If you recall last season when Gronk came back he was EXTREMELY tentative and cautious with that left arm. He would block right handed only...caught balls one handed..and basically was afraid to use it. Basically it is a mental thing now I would imagine...in addition to his apprehension/fear physically. I would rather they do what it takes to allow for complete heal and let him come back at full beast mode strength and confidence...than rush him back and have him be a frightened shell of his former self
