Patriots vs Bengals Post-Game Thread

Am I the only person who really does not understand the little juke at the top of Dobson's route on that incompletion on the last drive? I think it's safe to say it was some kind of option route since Brady threw out and Dobson ran in, but then I don't understand why Dobson would stop, make a double move to the outside, and then go to the post.

So its OK if Dopson is always dropping passes because he has more catches than drops? Lets not forget the fumble either that he luckily recovered today.

It's OK if Dobson is constantly running the wrong route because more times than not he runs the correct one?

Not sure if you're related to Dobson but he has been awful this year. For a NFL wide receiver he drops too many passes and runs the wrong route too many times.

Is it okay for brady not to look his way when dobson wide open? Brady is dumping the ball off too much.

I shamefully admit I was paying more attention than I'd like to that TD streak. Now that it's over, I'm glad. It's just a stat that will eventually be broken, and one less thing I have to worry about.

The loss hurts though. Huge props to the Bengal's D, but those rookies need to get on Brady's page fast. At face value it looked like there were a couple plays where Dobson was wide open and Brady threw nowhere near him, indicating it would be on Brady. But I don't know how the Patriots offensive system works; as someone pointed out in the gameday thread, it appears Tom has zero flexibility on his routes (except for scrambling situations), which makes sense (that's just asking for miscommunication). It looks like Dobson's going to have to learn, at least on the initial route, to run it correctly.

Not to put it all on him though, Brady was off on a TON of throws today.

Actually that streak passing TD in consecutive games would have been awesome. How close Brady came to breakin it is an accomplishment in itself. Something to be proud of. But of course Brady would take a "W" instead of that streak.

As for route Brady/Dobson this is called growin pains, Brady will be asked about it and he will explain what happened on that play. It's gonna be like this until their ALL on same page.

Not having Ridley there hurt. But Bolden is still a better short-yardage option than Blount.

At any rate Bengals D-line dominated that game. Don't think Gronk is going to help with this team's biggest weakness going on seven years now--inability to handle quick, disruptive DTs.

Gotta love when people make these sorts of BS comments.

Geno Atkins is one of the top 3 DTs in the LEAGUE. Except for the one play, the Pats contained him pretty well. Then they had issues with the DEs in Dunlap and Dingleberry...

All teams have issues with guys like Atkins. It's why he's considered one of the best.

Claiming this has been a weakness for the Pats for 7 years is just a flat out lie. And please don't try and point to the losses against the Giants in the SB because the issue there wasn't quick DTs...

Because brady would not have thrown to him if he was wide open

Brady loves the difficult throws.

Uhm...when you throw bombs downfield, you don't typically wait and see where your receiver is. It needs to be thrown way in advance, before the receiver is anywhere close to his final catching position.

That's what route running is for and timing. You throw to a spot on the field. Not to a receiver.

If the receiver runs the wrong route, you have a play breakdown. Which is what it looked like to me. Even though apparently some people think the rookie diagnosed the defense better than Tom and actually had an option to run a different route. I find that one hard to believe.

These guys still have to huddle up. I doubt Bill and Josh are giving them too many options and reading responsibilities at the moment. Heck they can't even do the basics right yet. They can't even time a catch. I have seen Tom's balls, especially on shorter throws, repeatedly bounce OFF their chest and back into their hands. Because they can't get the timing down.

Brady is starting to lose a step but that is to be expected when you get into your late 30's. Its not helping that BB decided to surround Brady with such a piss poor receiving core. This is worse than the 2006 receiving core.

No coincidence that Manning at age 37 is putting up ridiculous numbers because Elway surrounded Manning with great receivers. Its anybody's guess why BB just refuses to give Brady the same help at his age.

Elway didn't surround Manning with Great receivers. Thomas and Decker were there before Manning. Gotta love when people attempt to re-write history.

Blount was the starting RB
Solder was the Red Zone go to guy
Amendola has detached groin muscles dangling below his junk

How many points were you expecting vs that D line?

I'm not so sure Dobson catches that pass late in the game even if it hits him in the hands. Seemed like every receiver on the team forgot how to make catches in wet weather.

Bad game by the O good game by the d. That rain storm on the final drive was crazy.

Oh well, on to the next one.

Welker just dropped a pass against Cowboys. What a bum.

Running long patterns in desperation time that require the WR and QB to read the defense the same way when they consistently fail to do that is questionable coaching.

Yup and Elway knew what he had in Thomas & Decker and knew what he had with with Tebow and probably got so disgusted how Brady threw 6TDs in POs and at ALL COST was gunnin for Manning and Welker just happens to fall in his lap.

Gotta love this board after a loss, on the road no doubt.

Losing happen, folks. Teams of all types struggle in the NFL. Wins are not easy. It's unfortunate that they lost, but it happens. The fair weather meltdown and other such nonsense needs to stop.

Having a little perspective.

16-0 or bust.

This was a VERY painful game to watch. Hard to see Belichick and Kraft putting this kind of offense on the field for this team. Dobson....is a bust. The OL is STILL a inconsistent mess. Thompkins has potential...but is a long way from being a top threat WR....primarily because he bobbles/can't hang onto the ball. Blount is a decent back...but is north south and is very predictable. Bolden continues to shoot this team in the foot...WE HAVE NO FRIGGIN TE UNLESS Gronk comes back....no offensive blocking help....no offensive weapon. I think Bb and kraft...have to know that they tanked (so far) on the offense this year and yhat McD ain't going to get it done here.....again
Lastly Amendola.....the whole decision by BB ranks up there with some of the worst decisions in BB era. ..Amendola will NEVER STAY healthy all year..... he will never be reliable

Hooray!!!!! 5 games, actually 4 because he missed one, and about 175 receiving yards, and we have Dobson declared a bust.
And 5 games into a 6 year contract, we have concluded that Amendola will spend all 6 years injured.
What an awesome psychic effort this is.
Can you PM me the powerball numbers?

I thought it was nonsense and that simply Blount couldn't be trusted to get into the end zone, but my dad said he thinks McDaniels was thinking about that record for Brady, and that we should have run it twice before throwing. I do think we should have tried a sneak on first down.

Brady would have went to the safest option anyway

Getting the skill players back on O won't matter much if the OL continues to dish up putrid performances as such. They've been terribly disappointing this season, most unlike them.

The O-line has had ONE bad game. Today. They have had a couple of individual screw ups by Wendell and Connolly. Beyond that, the O-line has been fantastic.

Until today, Solder hadn't given up a sack. I don't believe that Vollmer had either. And I believe they put on sack allowed that should have been Wendell.

Lets stop acting like the ENTIRE O-line has been bad. It hasn't.

Off topic but #2 pick Luke Joeckel out for the season. Teddy-time in Jacksonville all but locked in.
