Nate Solder !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always thought he could be a VG LT but he's proving himself to be much more. He's been elite, a dominating force, not just as a pass protector but also in run block mode. Kudo's to Dante for nurturing yet another stud OL.

TB12 has to be ecstatic having Nate over there protecting his blindside.

Liked Matt Light over the years he was Tough Sob with his limitations. But Solder is a perfect LT who has all the tools to succeed plus Athleticism. I see why BB is enormed with Big guys like Solder and Vollmer because they don't grow on trees.

Dante must be licking his chops. Not only over Solder and Vollmer, he has a stud student in Marcus Cannon as well. Whenever Vollmer is out, Cannon has done a fine job. Someday Cannon wiill be a starter too.

Imagine how different everybody's perception of drafting would be if we celebrated scooping up an elite athlete like Solder at #19 and Cannon in the 5th as much as we wailed over spending a 2nd on Dowling?

It's like we just expect every 1st rounder to turn out like Solder. But it's far from a sure thing.

Where does Solder get ranked amongst LTs now in the NFL? Top 5? Top 10?

This is the best situation I ever remember us having at OT. I think that Dante really likes Cannon at OT. Given Vollmer injuries, it is absolutely great to have Cannon at OT.

However, I am not sure that Cannon will ever start at OT, except as a substitute in case of injury. Solder is signed through 2014 (with a 2015 option). We all expect him to be extended. IIRC. Vollmer is signed through 2016.

I certainly hope that we extend Cannon (after extending Solder). It seems more likely that, if Cannon is to stay, he will be a starting RG. Otherwise, it seems likely that he might move on, as good players often do when they cannot start.
