Vereen to miss at least 8 weeks

I guess carrying 2 too many RBs helps in this case

Ouch, this one is really a gut punch. A large part of the reason why I thought we could weather the loss of guys like Hernandez is because Vereen is such a versatile, dangerous weapon. Losing him is a bigger deal than most people seem to be making it out to be, IMO. Very bad news.

Can people stop acting like vereen is better than ridley because of fumbles.

Ridley fumbles shouldn't negate the fact he's a very good and explosive running back.

Regardless of everything else, Vereen is far more versatile. On the basis of that, I feel pretty comfortable calling him the better player. As it just so happens, though, durability is the one area where Ridley has definitely proven to be better so far.

Everyone is reporting that Vereen is out of practice and play for 10 games. I believe that the weeks are 6 and 8 as originally reported.

All I keep thinking is that the Patriots are in a pickle.

It's been a ****ty week.

Six weeks to practice, 10 weeks from this past weekend before he'll play again. Unfortunately, the first week that he's eligible to play again is the bye week, so he will not play again until week 11.

Give Hernandez a playbook to read in the slam, try and get his lawyers to have the judge grant him bail, sign him and line him up week 3 with the returning Gronk.

Suddenly all is well in Patriot land :rocker:

If he gets out on bail the first thing he is going to do is start killing prostitutes and wearing their ears as a necklace.

Question: since he hurt his wrist on the first play and continued to play as well as he did...couldn't we wait until after the jets game for surgery?

Three hours after an injury, you may not have a big swelling problem. 5 days later is a whole other matter.

Well - we need Amendola and Sudfield to get healthy sooner than later.

We need Gronk for week 3 once the NFC South opponents start coming to their plate.

We need Edelman, Dobson, Boyce, Hooman, Ridley, Thompkins and the any spare parts (i.e. Washington, Blount) to step up.

The loss of Vereen is a big blow because of his dual roles.

For quite a few years now the Patriots have been the most effective or among the most effective offenses in the NFL. That has been the year in and year out roadmap for victory. However, this pre-season/coming into this regular season, this long standing reality appeared uncertain more than at any time in many seasons. Now, after losing Vereen, this uncertainty is even more stark. Plain and simple, it sucks the big one losing Vereen given how much this offense REALLY needed this potent all purpose yards gaining player.

With that said, Vereen got hurt, he's out, it is what it is. The Patriots have 15 individual battles to win over, approximately, the next 16 weeks and they very likely weren't going to win all of them whether Vereen was in there or not. Ultimately the Patriots need to win enough games to capture the division, that's it. If they have to do more digging and clawing and playing nastier than in years past, if they have to achieve more ugly, lower and tighter scoring games than us fans are used to, that's actually ok by me. I ultimately don't care how they win the needed amount of games to win the division as long as they win the division. The only thing I need to see out of this new roadmap for victory is an upward evolution/progression of the offense over the weeks. That, IMHO, must happen.

I don't prefer to see the Patriots O be markedly less potent than they have been in many years. But I am hopeful this unfamiliar situation will force this team to be a different kind of team than in recent years. Different meaning a 'meaner, harder, grittier' December/January team. One that can win by repeatedly punching the other team in the mouth and pulling out several 13 to 10 scoring games. If that can happen and if the injury gods smile upon us at the right time, I actually like the idea of going into the playoffs with a meaner/grittier team that is led by TB and featuring offensive players like Gronk, Ridley, Vereen, DA, JE, Kenbrell all of which, by then, should be healthy enough or now showing their capable enough of piling up yards when called upon. Whether that is too much 'rose colored glasses' thinking?? I don't really care. I prefer to look at it as an opportunity instead of wallow in the uncertainty.

Well, that sucks

He could have an outstanding season for 1000+ rush yards and god knows how many from the air.
