Vereen to miss at least 8 weeks

Yes who can forget all that great depth. Guys like Earthwind Moreland, Troy Brown and that other guy that all played DB for us.

I believe "that other guy" was UDFA Randall "Blue" Gay. . . .

Oh, man, this REALLY sucks.

So we stay fairly injury free during preseason only to be smacked in game one. Cool.

Crap. The day just keeps getting worse...

Looks like you don't understand the rules. Also, he is essentially out as long as he would be if he were on the PUP.

What is his practice squad eligibility?

That doesn't matter since he would need to pass through waivers, which he clearly wouldn't.

This IR-return designation was made just for this situation.

Although it's an unfortunate turn of events, I'm not panicking and I doubt the Patriots are either.

There's only two players on the team being out for an extended period of time that should warrant panic: Brady and Wilfork

These circumstances build character and mental toughness in a team. Other players have to step up to fill the void. We'll get to see what these guys are really of made in response to this adversity.

If you want to be a champion in the NFL you're going to have to deal with a lot of adversity, some external, but mostly internal. There's no doubt in my mind that the Patriots will weather this storm.

Patriots place RB Shane Vereen on injured reserve with designation to return -- So he's out at least eight weeks.

Did the surgeon screw something up? Seems like a drastic change in a return timetable.

Ok, so let's put him on the PUP.

The basic requirement for being practice squad eligible is having played no more than 8 games in any season. Vereen played in 13 last season.

Any player that has ever practiced is ineligible for PUP for the rest of that season.

with him being out a min of a few weeks already, and with numerous injuries on the roster already (amendola, gronk, dobson, sudfeld), this move at least frees up a roster spot until he is ready to return. makes sense to me.

Well, can he rush the passer?

For some reason I still am not very worried. I believe the rookies will make a huge step forward now knowing what a meaningful game is. Something you just can't replicate. I want to see what Dobson can do. I feel like he could become a big contributor.

Yep, that's a few It would seem he is day to day... to day to day to day to day...

Can people stop acting like vereen is better than ridley because of fumbles.

Ridley fumbles shouldn't negate the fact he's a very good and explosive running back.

Not really . Everything else was just 'sources'.
