Maybe this should be moved to a different forum (Mods?), but I'm curious to know what you guys think. Clowney is a freak of nature, a seemingly irresistible force on defense - excellent against the run, destroyer of quarterbacks against the pass. Seems like a lock for the #1 pick, right (barring injury, of course)?

However, Teddy Bridgewater is also a dominant player at QB, which is the most valued position on the field. He could be the next great franchise QB in the league.

So if the Pats had the #1 pick, who would you take? On the one hand, you have a dominant rusher to line up along with Jones, and in Brady's remaining years, he might be of more value.

On the other hand, you have what may be the Patriots' Aaron Rodgers or Steve Young to their Brett Favre and Joe Montana - the next great franchise QB to lead them the next 10-12 years after Brady finally retires.

I'm gonna guess that most folks here would still go with Clowney, but still....might make for an interesting decision.

If you're the Pats you take Clowney and its not even close.

Bridgewater fairly easily.

QB>>>>>>>>>>DE

And Bridgewater is really really good.

I'd go with Bridgewater if I actually had to make a pick. If the Patriots actually had the #1 pick, I'd assume they would trade down for more picks.

At this point, I'm not convinced Brady won't still be playing after six more seasons when Bridgewater's contract would expire.

Definitely part of the equation, for sure. Then again, as he ages, he's more susceptible to an injury from which he cannot reasonably recover.

I love the idea of Clowney and Jones attacking the QB at the same time. But I also like the idea of having the QB position nailed down for the next 12 years (because I'd make sure I re-signed Bridgewater).

Obviously a QB is better than a DE but this isnt fantasy football. They already have a QB. Clowney would be the no brainier choice for the first four years.

Clowney.

Just let this thought process for a minute and think of the carnage:

Clowney-Wilfork-Kelly-Jones
Ninkovich-Hightower-Mayo

You wouldn't need to much blitzing to get to the QB.

You can pretty much bank on one of these 2 being a Jet.

I think you got to go with the QB even though I think Clowney is superior at his position.

I was talking to a friend about who might get the #1 pick next year and the Jets were the top team I could think of. I'm curious to see Clowney in the NFL so that could be interesting.

I can make a serious case for both but Clowney would push the Defense into elite territory. Bridgewater won't see the field for some time if Brady insists on playing until he is 40.

Clowney and Jones as bookends just isn't fair.

I'm not as high on Clowney as some and "they" already have a 36 year old QB.

It's obviously going to factor based on whom is making the pick at #1. If it's a team like the Raiders without a building block at QB that you can be assured that Bridgewater will be #1.

If it's a team with an already established franchise QB that it will most likely be Clowney.

As it relates to the Patriots, the second option is the obvious choice.

I'm not sure how well Mr. Clowney's would fit in around these parts, his attitude is very Lebron.

Even if I have the wrong perception of him, anytime you have a #1 overall pick and your current QB is about to turn 37 years old, and there is a QB considered to be a franchise QB, I'd be inclined to draft him, a DE can do a lot of things especially a DE as special as Clowney but he isn't going to turn a loser into a winner. Peppers, JPP, Watt, and other top DE either missed the playoffs or made an early exit last year.

If the Patriots had the #1 pick, then they would have to go quarterback. I have concerns about Clowney's motor and his hype despite his tremendous talent.

If they went quarterback, then I would want Brett Hundley, UCLA. Bridgewater may be the guy that everyone is targeting as the best quarterback in what could be a tremendous quarterback class but Hundley is the man who will have a better quarterback career.

His arm, pocket awareness, accuracy, speed and agility are five tools that you do not want to pass up. I hope that Hundley declares this year. The guy is going to be a perennial All-Pro on whatever team gets him.

Hundley is good but Bridgewater might just be Andrew Luck good.

Hundley will be better than Luck, Wilson and Kaepernick.

You've been 'smoking' again haven't you?

He seems to have had a good start this season. Will be interesting to see how he develops as the season progresses.

Nah - no smoke here. Here is what is scary about Hundley. He had 11 incompletions against Nevada and half of those could have been caught had he had a little less air in the ball.

He is only going to get better. He is very good on the quick passing attack and throws the ball well on both the inside and outside slants.
