And why exactly is favoritism a bad thing for football coaches? Coaches have their favorites, players that they have a special interest in, and with whom they walk the extra mile.

I think that Josh is trying to save Tebow's career. After all, Tebow was one of his 1st round picks.

This whole situation smacks of favoritism at best. I just read that Tebow had been a lock to make the team before this. Based on what, I wonder? He's a nice guy, he knows God personally? He earned nothing up to this point and has earned a bus ticket out of town based on the last two weeks.

Players should be judged on performance first, not on their religion or public relations wonderfulness. It's wrong.

That's all quite possible. It's also possible that they have some longer term view, and aren't going to react to this game the way many people here are.

We'll find out soon enough. Either Tebow will be cut at some point, or he'll be on the roster.

I see no way a roster spot for Tebow can be justified. He cannot now, nor will he ever, be a consistently effective NFL quarterback. He can't do anything else that other reserve players do much better. I feel bad for the guy because he certainly is a competitor and good teammate, but he's just not a winner at the pro level. Let him have one last hurrah in the fourth preseason game and then let him go.

As much as I'd like it to happen, I'd be shocked if Tebow gets cut. BB and McD knew all of Tebow's strengths/weaknesses/limitations when they signed him. He's been a lot worse than expected in preseason games so far, but they also watch him in practice every day and formulate part of their judgement on that as well. I think this was a year-long project they decided to take on, right or wrong. The incentive-laden second year of his contract supports that theory. I simply can't imagine anything has or could happen between his signing and now to make them simply give up all of a sudden.

No amount of coaching is going to improve this guy, I'm convinced of it. Nor will continued hard work. He just doesn't have what it takes to succeed as a pro.

those of us who have been going to practices get to see what the coaching staff works on as far as offensive and defensive sets go. I've seen them work on a cat package with Tebow. They ran it last week with mixed success. Tonight they had him running the Pats/.Brady offense. He can't throw to his right...that was the first pass. He forced some throws between the hashes to players who were covered and sailed one to a receiver who was open.Obviously pressing. He threw two sideline/left passes that were , well, laughable. His footwork was terrible on those.

He threw 7 passes. He was the second leading rusher for the night..6 for 30. He finally moved the team at thend to the 20...they took a knee. If they were trying to build his confidence or giving him a final chance, they wouldn't have called for two kneel downs. Tebow took it on the chin tonight, and as all the media outlets as well as seemingly all of us here lambaste him, he's still a Patriot and still getting ready to play next week.

Again, and I'd rather NOT carry three QB's, it seems they have a spot slotted for him running a read option or wildcat formation. Why else would they devote so many reps to it in practice sessions? They ran none of that for him tonight and he looked, well, like we all thought he's always looked running a pro set. I'm just trying to suss THEIR rationale because I KNOW they have one just by what they DIDN'T do with him tonight.

No disrespect intended but that is just baseless mediot fodder.
Some like BB and many don't like BB. It seems that anyone who knows the name BB has an opinion on him. Yet even those who dislike him would not say the words 'BB keeps players because he thinks they're swell guys'. What is expected of BB is the opposite. It is believed he would run his own mother into the ground if it gave him even a slight competitive advantage then cut her in the blink of an eye once the advantage was not longer there (and it would save 15 bucks on the cap).

No way does BB keep TT for any other reason than he believes it will help the team. Of course there is a very unlikely chance he is overruled by Kraft. While I do not believe Kraft would step into personnel decisions in such an authoritative way (fail! if he does), the surreal outlier situation of AH gives the PR side of the Patriot organization more weight.

I agree, but I think the coaching staff has already decided they are going to take the full season to prove it to themselves.

The question is whether or not Bill and Josh share the same opinion.

After watching TT attempt to play i can't fathom how he was a First rnd pick.
Oh and BTW there were more than a few here that wanted BB to draft him with the Pats first pick that year :jaw:........You know who you are.

one positive about all this Tebow white noise...it's canceling out the Hernandez negative waves quite nicely...

AT, let's be clear, I am NOT lobbying for TT. At this point I just don't see him getting or deserving a spot (though I have seen no practices, unlike Joker, and don't know if there are alternate plans for TT). The point I was trying to make is that a preseason game is not necessarily the end all be all of roster decision making. TT is a pariah right now but if he does markedly better in games 3 and 4, he will be much more liked. Roster decisions based on playing against mostly 3rd and 4th string guys without the benefit of team specifics can't be absolute proof of deserving to be cut can it?
As far as the hypothetical TT numbers I used, those were his game stats from a 2011 regular season game against the Vikings. He is in fact capable of it. Now will he do it? I wouldn't bet on it but again he is capable of it.

Yeah, for another 5-6 days until Thursday's probable cause hearing which will be televised and reported everywhere you look.

Enjoy the peace in the meantime

I'll just put my fingers in my ears and sit with blinders on while chanting "Brady...Brady....Brady...Brady"...the Zen Of Patriotism

I didn't get to watch the 2nd half.
Sounds like it was bad lol.

The bottom line is that we don't make the roster decisions, so we really have no idea as to what Belichick, Kraft, and McDaniels' thoughts are.

For all we know Belichick may have decided that he'd likely be keeping him for different roles throughout the year such as scout team QB and developmental learning from Brady and Co. through meetings and a full year of being coached in the proper manner.

Those who are claiming that "he'll definitely be cut" (as much as most of us want him to be) don't know what BB's plans were or how much if any, they have changed due to some lousy preseason performances.

I honestly don't think it matters all that much anymore, Joker--at least from as negative of an aspect as it was in the beginning on the team. At this point it's just about him personally in my opinion. Maybe you see it differently though, I know some do.

In the beginning we were all horrified and shocked. Not so much for me anymore.

No. The league has seen him and they will destroy him and the running backs.

It's possible to have one good game passing, but consistently? No and the league knows it.

I agree. TT hasn't shown consistency over his NFL career (his consistency is more of putting up poor stats). One would think that alone would make him an unlikely candidate for making a BB team (I think BB uses the word "consistency" every time he speaks about football in a non presser environment). The one contrary point I would make is if a guy can do it occasionally, he may be able to be trained into doing it consistently. If that's true then it's a matter of cap (he's a minimum cost isn't he?) and if a roster spot is worth the risk/reward to wait out the results of the training. IMHO the answer to that second part is no. The Patriots have A LOT of young guys that need maturing. Every roster spot is critical but that makes the roster spot even more critical. IMHO TT had to have come in and make a case that the skill set he brought to the table was worth keeping/using.

With that said, I had hoped BB could use his singular focus to turn TT into an asset of not only being a serviceable backup but also utilizing his specific skillset to run a successful trick play or two or three at defenses. Getting those plays on game film, making opposing defenses have to be concerned with it, spend practice time preparing for it. But I just don't see that coming to fruition....

Tebow fans, explain how hes worth a roster spot.

Well as I mentioned in the game thread :

I am a big Tebow fan and I wouldn't be shocked if he gets cut . Whatever Tebow has morphed into he doesn't seem to be the guy with ice water in his veins late in games circa 2011. Its sad but he will have no one to blame but himself . I am starting to think the endless tinkering with his mechanics has caused quite a regression.
