Why would a JAG QB like Mike Kafka running an offense built for one of the best QBs in history be better than a specific offense built for a QB with a very specific skillset? Does anyone really think that Kafka running a Brady offense will fare better than Tebow running a Tebow offense?

Because this isnt Madden 2013. An offense isnt just a book with plays in it. its players who are good at specific tasks in order to run specific thinks. Its a machine.

Just saying here Timmeh, Run these 5 plays, good luck. doesnt work.

But that isn't what they've done is it. They've said "here offense, run these specific plays".

That is NOT the question. Kafka was considered a camp arm to help the bottom of the roster rookies become acclimated to the NFL and to the patriot offense, not a potential starter for the patriots.

Having Tebow run his own offense did not help the development of those at the end of the roster.

So, yes, IF the goal was to find a 3rd QB who might run the team, then Tebow is a better choice than Kafka.

So, for me, the role of 3rd quarterback has apparently changed. For me, no 3rd string quarterback is worth changing the offense and using up practice time and preparation efforts. The fact that Belichick has done all this points to Tebow making the team and competing with Mallett for a 2014 contract extension.

This I don't agree with. Linemen are still blocking, receivers are still running routes - they're still being developed.

But I agree that Tebow is intended to be more than just a 3rd string QB camp arm.

I'll take demos explanation and add what I am to it. As my name implies I am a Gator fan first and foremost, and a general football fan second. Tim Tebow is arguably the greatest gator of all time, but I follow all the Gators in the NFL. I don't really have a true NFL favorite team, but I'd have to say the bucs would be if I had one ( I'm from Tampa, live in Gainesville)

I have never claimed to be a fan of Denver, New York, or the Pats. I will admit that Tebow is the only one I bother to get on forums to discuss.

To further the point, I agree with demos that I would never root for Brady to be hurt, if Tebow gets on the field I'll be happy... but I hope its not ever because a player in front of him being hurt, Tom Brady or anyone else. I want him to earn it.

Just a quick FYI, I don't hold you being a Gator fan against you, just as I don't hold it against Tebow for playing there. I do wish he would have picked Georgia, but oh well.

Go Dawgs!!

That's true, I believe they are tebow fans first and foremost, and want him to play first and foremost. Are there exceptions to that, I am sure there are, but when you see a fan root for the Jets in 2012 and become Patriot fans in 2013 then you can expect a great deal of skepticism to accompany that.

Fair enough.

For me personally, I'd note whether they were rooting for the team each time, or if they were only concerned about Tebow, even to the team's detriment.

You know, the proverbial "Tim's the greatest and he should be the starter" thing.

I think it's a red herring vis a vis Tebow because as Bill Belichick himself has said, the Pats "changed" the offense for Matt Cassell. BTW, they haven't "changed" the offense in the way that people are suggesting. They've added some more things to it that are geared towards Tebow. If he were to come in as QB, he'd run some of the same plays that Brady runs, as well as some that cater more to his strengths.

Look Demosthenes I don't think Tebow fans are bad people I just believe that they are not Patriot fans but rather they are simply Tebow fans, which is fine, they can root for any team or any player for any reason they wish to, but as Tebow fans and not Patriot fans what they really want is to see him playing, and if he was traded to the Panthers tomorrow they would follow him to the Carolina fanbase just as they did Denver, NYJ, and now NE. On the other hand, using myself as an example, I am as big a fan of welker as there is in this forum, and wasn't happy at how he was treated by the team and many of it's fans, however I am a Patriot fan and always have been, and when Welker comes to town I will be cheering for him when introduced and then rooting for him to have the worst game of his career. Whereas i honestly believe that if Tebow were traded to carolina his fans would be rooting for the Panthers to win and Tebow to have the game of his life. These are my honest beliefs on it, I believe that tebow fans are Tebow fans first and foremost, which is what allows them to go from team to team year after year, instead of sticking with one team and following them.

If I am wrong then please explain how Tebow fans could be jets fans last year and Patriot fans this year, rather than just Tebow fans?

Agreed - I think that it's possible to be both a Tebow fan and a Patriots fan, but one has to come before the other. I am interested in knowing who is a Pats fan first and also happens to like Tebow, vs. who is a Tebow fan and happens to like the Patriots because they're his current team. All of the Tebow fans who have shown up here in the past couple of months are almost certainly Tebow fans who happen to be rooting for the Pats at the moment.

Nothing wrong with being a Tebow-first fan; to each their own, and everyone has every right to root for whoever they want. But understanding who is a Tebow fan and who is a Pats fan does help with understanding why certain debates go the way that they go. The Tebow-only fans won't be happy until he starts and will be gone the moment that Tebow's gone. I don't feel any real kinship with them, since we're fundamentally not rooting for the same thing.

In my opinion, you were doing absolutely fine right up until that highlighted statement. While it's true that most of us will be gone if Tebow leaves NE in the near future, it's incorrect to say that we won't be happy until he starts.

I can speak for many others on this one and say that many/most of us are happy that he's back under McDaniels and is being developed.

The thing I keep coming back to, is why would BB spend so much time installing a Tebow offense if he wasn't going to keep him.

Which leads me to the conclusion, right or wrong, that Tebow will make the team.

As far as 2 or 3 Qb's, there have been continued complaints that the Pats shouldn't keep 3 QB's. If this is the case, and BB agrees, then why is he installing the offense.

If he thinks there will be only two Qb's then I would guess, and mind you it is just a guess, that Tebow has a much better chance sticking than Mallett does.

I am certainly not advocating this, but if I were a betting man I would give very good odds that TT makes the team.

This is correct, not all of the Tebow fans are Patriot fans but I'd venture to say all (or at least the vast majority, I can't speak for lunatics) of us are rooting for the Patriots to win. No matter who is QB.

I said earlier that I don't mind if someone wants to give me a hard time about not being a Pats fan, I'm not, but I will be watching all the games and I will be rooting for them. Take that as you want. At least you guys are treating us with a modicum of respect, unlike a certain other AFC east team fan base that acted as if we were lepers and terrorists.

I, like Demo said, am just happy Tebow is on a team (at least for now) that seems to actually want to use him as a QB and develop his skillset so he can continue his career.

Not when they're playing the Ravens I'm not.... :verycool:

We have a very successful team here. We respect the abilities of the FO, the coaches and the coordinators. And yes, we often disagree with (don't understand) their decisions.

So, when Belichick signed Tebow and spend lots of time developing additional looks and plays for him, we try to understand WTF Belichick is doing.

I'm fine with "fans for a reason, and for a season". Some come only when there is success. Some only when SB's are won. Some come only a big loss. Some come for specific players. I suspect that there are many who are Brady fans, at least as much as they are patriot fans.

In the end, we have our flaming and our baseless ranting attacks of the opinions of others. But most of all, we are patsfans sharing our passion.

As an aside, you will find that during the season, we WELCOME fans from other teams to post here before their games with us, so that we can all understand our teams better.

I get that with you guys, and after my experience with last year, I highly respect that. One of my first posts on this forum was about why I was lurking instead of posting, Joker actually told me not to lurk and that my opinion mattered, which given his pension for rants against Tebow fans was actually pretty awesome.

I still lurked for a while, trying to get a feel for the board before I decided that this thread deserved some attention. Blame chasa and his creationism comment.. lol.

But but but but but Tebow threw for 300 yards one game.

Your attempts at either humor or aggravation are pretty lame man. I can't figure out what exactly it is you're trying to accomplish other than just acting like a fool.

And he did it twice.
