Training Camp Thread 8/13/2013

Regardless, VJax is a helluva receiver. Add in lack of pass rush and below average secondary, and Freeman and VJax may have a field day against the Pats. Not saying we won't beat them, but their offense should be able to put a decent amount of points against us, unless our secondary becomes good overnight and our D finds a pass rush over night.

This makes me laugh. So much negativity with so little actual information.

How do you know the Patriots will lack a pass rush and have a below average secondary?

Clearly he is basing it off of the first preseason game where the starting defense minus McCourty and Dennard played a few series which involved absolutely no scheme at all.

That's kinda a stupid comment. It could very well happen, but the Pats aren't scheming the Bucs or playing anything but vanilla. Anyone who think you are going to take anything away from this week on how the Pats and Bucs will perform against each other in the regular season is an idiot. Neither Belichick nor Schiano are going to show their hand to each other this week.

I've watched Vincent Jackson torch us in person twice while he was in San Diego. He'll probably own us again.

Comments from Christopher Price, weei.com:

- Pats practice coming to a close. Steady light rain falls throughout session with Bucs. Spikes among notables not present.

- Thompkins with great one handed grab in 7 on 7s on pass from Brady. Dobson and Amendola also have big catches on morning.

- Officials on the field working with both teams throughout practice.

- McCourty also continues to work at safety with Adrian Wilson & Talib & Arrington at CB.

- "Welcome to the Jungle" officially the song of camp for Pats. By my count, 3rd time we've heard it in middle of practice this summer.

- Both sides struggled with music and wet conditions. Brady juggled snap and Dobson had a drop. Got a little frantic.

- Zach Sudfeld drew the ire of some folks when he didn't hit the ground after catching a pass in a hurry-up/end of half situation.

- Will Svitek working at RG again.

- Tommy Kelly blocked a Tampa field goal attempt, but looked like he was a little shaken up on the play and went to the sidelines.

- Dobson had a bit of a rough day. Four drops, by my count.

- On that Dobson drop note, important to note that it was a sloppy day for everyone.

- (Q.: Kenbrell Thompkins makes the team, right?) -- Yep.

- Revis: Pats-Jets is a crazy rivalry. Kind of like a hatred.

- Revis also acknowledged that Robert Kraft stopped to talk with him and offer well wishes with his rehab.

- Practice ended 30 minutes ago. Tim Tebow only player left on the field.

At this point how do we know the Pats have no pass rush or an average secondary? I think the Pats have a chance to have an excellent pass rush and a fairly good secondary. We won't know until the regular season starts and the Pats start game planning for real though.

Seriously, are you going to judge our starting defense off of two drives last Friday night with half the second not in uniform and absolutely no scheming whatsoever.

From Jeff Howe:

- Brady finished 13 of 21 in 11-on-11s. Four incompletions were intended for Dobson, including a bad drop.

- Gisele is here watching practice.

- Demps update: Finishing track season Sunday in Moscow, and he and the Bucs will take it from there. Obviously won't be at joint practices.

- Brandon Spikes was absent today. I've been told it's nothing to worry about, but I don't know any more than that.

From Shalise Manza Young:

- Brady was set to chat with reporters today, but his wife and Benjamin were at practice, just left field with them #familycomesfirst

Jackson is a great WR, but he also had Philip Rivers in San Diego before Rivers went to crap.

He may very well torch the Pats again, but was a different year with a different Pats' defense and a different offense he was in. I don't think you can draw anything from the time he played in San Diego other than he is a very good WR.

What is today's date in metric?

13/08/2013.

It get's really confusing when the day is less than 12. 06/07/2013 to you would be the 7th of June and to me the 6th of July.

I agree. It's always a new year. But history tends to repeat itself. I think our defense will be improved versus the most common receivers (WRs shorter than 6'2) but VJax is a big target which is something we've historically struggled against.

But that's because historically all of our CBs tend to be well under 6 foot. That has changed with Talib (6'1"). The Pats finally have a big physical CB who can go one on on one with the tall WRs.

This just made my day, especially the first 3. Hopefully in a couple of weeks Cannon can start to make his presence known as the starting RG, and a very good OL will be elevated to awesome. Getting Dowling and Dennard back can only be good news for the secondary.

As for Jenkins.....meh. At least now he'll be able to fight for his job, but it looks like its going to be an uphill climb
I was at the practice today and it didn't look like Jenkins got that many reps

This forum already has Logan Ryan labeled a bust and Belichick a buffoon for drafting him after half of a preseason game so take your rational, longview perspective and gtfo pal.

V Jax vs the BB bend and break defense........history shows V Jax domination...even against triple teams.
But it will be different this year.....ahem ahem cough cough
