Hopefully, BB & co are smarter than the rest of us and this works out.

Well, he is either an emergency 3rd QB, or some scout team QB, or chips in with some punt protection and occasional wild cat, or is cut. I dont see how it couldn't work out unless he was getting significant playing time which in that case would mean the season is probably over anyway.

If this was an instance of possibly getting value in a potential backup quarterback from someone who was cut, then this is it.

With that said, McDaniels probably thinks that he can still fix Tebow's throwing mechanics despite his LONG history of poor throwing mechanics that date all of the way back to when he was an underclassman at the UofF.

BTW - Demos, it was well chronicled that Tebow stayed because after his junior year, the pre-draft evaluation indicated that he still had to work on his throwing mechanics. This is not a 2013 issue.
This has been an issue with him going back to 2008 and 2009. I don't know why everyone realizes this but there was a reason why he didn't enter the draft following his junior year.

If he cannot fix his throwing mechanics in the next couple of weeks, then he will not make the final 53. And, please don't think for a second, that the Patriots are not making evaluations as of right now.

The highlighted part above is the kind of crap that leaves me shaking my head. Go back and read each of the three articles and notice that NONE of them support this statement:

Tebow stayed because after his junior year, the pre-draft evaluation indicated that he still had to work on his throwing mechanics

What is well chronicled is that many scouts/experts complained about his mechanics and in fact, the coaches at Florida "tweaked" them every year. "Tweak" meaning, make some relatively minor adjustments to.

It was after his Senior season, in the run up to his Pro Day that his mechanics were overhauled. That work was done @D1 in Nashville with with Noel Mazzone, Zeke Bratkowski, Sam Wyche and Mark Trestman.

Re: Should Tebow be cut?

Needless to say, Mallet or Tebow, will never be Brady's successor... Which begs the question of how does the Patriots find that person? Realistically, Brady has 2-3yrs left. So, grooming a QB needs to start sooner rather than later...

Is 2014 draft the answer?

Oh I think he has more than that. 2-3 at Elite status perhaps but he is not going to stop playing QB for this team until they cart him off the field forever. This guy loves to play and will never voluntarily stop.

Perhaps, but, the Patriots would be in big trouble, if Brady got hurt and cannot play.

3yrs under Mallets' belt, and his throws are still "stingers", short or long range.

Tebow cannot make decisions on throwing the ball, and is totally unreliable throwing.

He does have the “will”, he may have the “chops”, but he does NOT have the tools. An NFL quarterback must have the mental capacity to move quickly thru reads, make intelligent decisions, and have the ability to envision the direction of a play under extreme pressure. Tebow does not have that, and it is not something that can be fixed in my opinion.

It's also true the best NFL coaches know how to get a player's goody. By virtue of your conclusion about what Tim does not have, I conclude you are not in BB's league...but good trying to sound like you know what you are talking about. It reminds me of Tim's last coach.

Honestly I'd rather see Edelman play than either of Brady's backups if he goes down. "Tebow Time" used to be fun and enjoyable until defenses figured him out. It's no longer fun to watch at all. If you cannot complete passes in this league, you cannot succeed. Simple as that.

Re: Should Tebow be cut?

He sucks. He can't be developed. Brady is being nice you think he's going to say what a joke teblow is?

I believe Brady was sincere when he stated how he felt about Tebow.

Funny thing is that some people in this thread think that they're smarter than Bill Belichick. Belichick brought Tebow in for a reason and I think that was to develop him. Also many of the anti-Tebow zealots are obsessed with Tebow and his supporters. I am all for rational debate for or against Tebow as a football player. However, the few that decide to attack Tebow and his supporters on a personal level have issues of their own they need to sort out.

Might as well go with Edelman, hey at least they would get Clowney out of the situation!

Re: Backup QB Situation

I thought Mallett was supposed to be so good?
I'd be a bit nervous about him too if I didn't think back to a time when someone named cassell looked like complete dogass in the preseason, everyone including his own mother was screaming for him to be cut, then went in for brady in the first game and went on to have a pretty decent year (11-5)

QB's are out there right now so coaches can see how they are reading defenses, throwing motion, decision making under pressure, ect. Don't read to much into a qb in preseason that you've never seen in real game.

People aren't attacking Tebow on a personal level, they are saying they think he is not a good QB.
I'm not sure why people insist on singling out critical comments about being a poor football player directed at Tebow as 'personal attacks' when Ive never seen that done before.
I think Tebow stinks as an NFL QB. I could not care less who he is, I care about his ability to play QB. I felt the same about many backup QBs who came through here, and will continue to in the future I'm sure.

By the way, Brady would say pretty much the same thing if asked about any teammate, so the only thing you can honestly conclude is that he does not despise Tebow. His real opinion of his ability will never be given to the media, good, bad or ugly.

Re: Should Tebow be cut?

Belichick brought Tebow in for a reason and I think that was to develop him.
We had this discussion last night watching the game, the consensus was TT is here because for some reason mcdaniels has a hard on for him and belichick wanted JM to shut up so he got him his toy to play with for the preseason.

It's the only thing that makes any sense, the man is not a qb and it's quite clear at this point he never will be. Won't even mention his inaccuracy. His brain does not process information even at half the speed required of a NFL QB and theres no cure for that. The man couldn't beat out mark sanchez last year, you are going nowhere in this league if you can't be a sliver better then Mark "absolutely horrible" Snachez circa 2012 in your 3rd year.

You're just blinded by emotion because of the jesus thing. Even if jesus exists he wouldn't have enough power to turn TT into an acceptable 3rd string QB.

Do a test, who's the first qb you think of in the nfl other then tebow? Now
go rewatch any game where tebow was qb'ing in the nfl and force yourself to think that the qb thats playing is the first qb that popped into your head. I guarantee you you'll look at it like "WTF is this guy doing in the NFL, this is embarrassing"

Your head is so far up Tebow's rear you can't even see what people are posting about him.

And as mentioned TB takes the highroad with everyone. And BB can't develop a crappy player with limited talent and skills.

And who are anti-tebow Zealots? People who think he sucks? So any player that sucks and gets called out about it has zealots? I dont think so.

Stop crying

I don't have a clue as to whether Tebow makes the team, much like everyone else on this board. But here is a thought; next year BB trades Mallet and Tebow has another year under BB and Brady to develop. He then backs up Tom who never sits on the bench except when seriously injured. Thus, you would have an adequate qb with great leadership who would always be the backup (Painter/Manning).

I wasn't in that thread thankfully because if that was the "consensus", I'd despair.

The Patriots, of all teams should know the importance of developmental QBs. Brady (6th), Cassell (7th), Hoyer (UDFA) and Mallett (3rd) all worked their way up the depth chart to make another player expendable. In Brady's case he went from 4th stringer to possible GOAT. I would have rather seen the roster spot used on a QB prospect to develop and possibly push Mallett. Tebow is not that player, he is JMD's little pet project, here because of a nepotism or cronyism type situation rather than merit.

The only zealots are the pro tebow people. They like him bc of Jesus. Jesus himself would say tebow sucks. And stop with the "they'll develop him" like any decent guy can be turned into a starting qb. Brady was winning in his second year. Tebow is clueless and hopeless.

And you don't know what Bb will do until cutdowns.

And when he is cut he'll be an official martyr for Jesus. "The NFL turns its back on Jesus' boy little Timmy." I can see it now.

I'm wondering which of the anti-Tebow guys has got the brain cell today. it's clearly not you.

I think it's ego. McDaniels can't admit he screwed up with tebow. He insists he can mold him. Just a giant waste of time and not fair to the test of the team. He sucks.

Really ? I'm probably the most vocal Tebowite on this board and I'm an Agnostic Deist. Got any other really stupid contributions you want to make to the board today ?

And when bb finally cuts little Timmy then you'll be the one who thinks he's smarter than bb. Think of all the hearts Timmy would have won for Jesus if only the NFL had given him a chance!! If it weren't for the Jesus angle you'd be the first to note how awful he is.
