Backup QB Situation

Not exactly stunning...both of them.

TFB better not go down.

I thought Mallett was supposed to be so good?

I already know about Teblow...

Re: Backup QB Situation

There isn't a single team in the NFL that wouldn't be screwed if their starting QB went down.

I disagree...how could the Jets be any worse WITHOUT Buffumblechez starting games?

Bad example. The Jets are screwed no matter what, hence in particular they are screwed if their QB goes down.

While Mallett wasn't great, he really didn't have a chance to settle into a rhythm before he was hurt. Tebow should be cut. He isn't good and they have to design plays for him that would not otherwise be included in our playbook. He is a wasted roster spot. If they want a third QB they should find a pocket passer similar to Brady & Mallett.

Of course it's preseason, and Matt Cassel looked horrid the year that he had to take over for Brady (ended up 11-5)...but, I thought Mallett would have showed a lot more upside.

Re: Backup QB Situation

What about JAX and Blaine Gabbert's scintillating 5 /10, 19 yd, and one INT performance today? Passing for less than 4 yds per completion against preseason vanilla defenses might be a cause for concern in a pass first league I would think

.

Why? What ever gave you the impression he is "so good?" Who told you that? His mom?

Nice try.

Serious question. He clearly can't and likely never will be able to run this team's offense. The offense relies on precision, timing, accuracy, decision making etc., things that Tebow clearly lacks. You say you want to run the Wildcat or Spread offense, that of course means Brady sits.

Wouldn't this team be better served developing a "real" QB instead of trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Are they just going to throw away the playbook they spent over a decade developing to play sandlot football when /if Tebow plays.

To me, it just doesn't make sense on any level. Can someone enlighten me, without the usual "he's a great person" BS?

You had to throw that last line in there didnt you? Just shows what kind of person you are. OK let me ramble some thoughts. He ran great.Made a few throws missed a few more. You did notice that Oline didnt do so well either right? He had the one nice drive. Mallett did no better himself. His QB3 scout team ability justifies his position on the team. Look I know you dont like him because of his religious views and your obvious dislike of cancer kids but his worth to the team is obvious.

Well, I would hazard a guess that they think he is better than Kakfa, our previous QB3.

Why this mystifies people is beyond me.

Tebow is the Patriots version of a mercy f..ck.

oh yay another thread about our third string QB.:bricks::bricks:

Just to tweak the Jets. Those are the only two games that he'll dress for this year.

Thanks

He'll run scout team to simulate offenses that run read option. If he sticks around, they'll likely have a read option package for short yardage and goal line.

So it's Kafka, Tebow or nothing? No other options? Tebow clearly doesn't fit this offense.

And I'm not mystified. Although I'd like to know what the Pats see in him that most people with a working set of eyes don't and how they're better served with Tebow in this offense over a traditional QB.

BB likes good character, versatile guys. Of course, versatility without having a one role that gets you on the field is useless (Dan Klecko). rosters are huge in preseason, their's no real risk so why not?

If he can't throw the ball, he can't play quarterback and won't make the team.

By the way, dozens of other players we see won't make the team either. It's not unusual, happens every year.

I can't see any player taking up a roster spot as a specialized scout team simulator. If Tebow makes it for some reason, I imagine he'll have to displace a good special teams player (he's not a viable backup QB now) and that BB and Co. think they can break his mechanics down and that he has enough upside to make it worth their while. I don't see it, but what do I know?

Made me think of former Heisman winner John Huarte who was going to be the salvation of the Patriots. 2nd round pick, traded to the Pats, had a six year career of nothing (24 games, 1 start), running quarterback scrap heap.
